    Drawing Styles

    When I read manga I notice that the styles of drawing are always a bit different and it a raises a question: There are specific styles of drawing manga?

    There are different styles under it. Styles can range from simple & cartoonish, more realistic, artsy or something in between. Shoujo art, for example, have very distinctive style which originated from Osamu Tezuka's drawing style - most likely from Ribon no Kishi - which later evolved to have the more realistic art style but still feminine at the same time.

    Ribon no Kishi (1954-1968):


    Glass Mask (1976-ongoing):


    More current styles of shoujo include Vampire Knight, Crimson Hero, etc. This style is also used in yaoi manga. Example:

    Different styles have sub-categories depending on the genre of manga. I'm pretty sure you won't see Goku looking characters in an anime/manga about love and friendship.
    Or a really technical style like GITS in an anime like FLCL.
