I actually like your A cappella and chant examples.
I'm glad, they are always a refreshing musical form to listen to on occasion.
They are both forms of music, as A cappella simply means using the voice only as a musical instrument, and chanting is not monotone.
Yup, but what has monotones got anything to do with it? I hope you aren't implying that rap is... monotonous... O_O
but if someone has pointed out something don't I admit I haven't heard them and go listen to them?
GunZ's post below your own summarizes my point. However I would like to add that I personally don't really mind if you were to listen to one song and dislike the band. But listening to one song and condemning a genre...
Did you even look at the video for 5fdp? While I see what you're trying to say, that's not the best example.
Of course, i've been listening to a lot of them recently, (The Pride being my favorite for some reason) and yes you are correct that may not be a shinning example, but it should be enough to see my point that... there isn't really anything there to get aggressive about. Especially if you listen to some songs off American Capitalist; it sounds like they will be falling into the midst of mediocrity pretty soon.
Also, if we're talking metal you have to draw the line at Pantera and bands like them, leaving 5fdp as closer to screamo, nu metal, or southern metal, all of which are different, just like rap, r&b, etc.
Just to clear up some terminology here, 5FDP would be closer to just heavy metal with elements of thrash, definitely not screamo. If you are wanting screamo you would be looking at stuff like Alesana;
But i'm sure GunZ can clarify that or not
As for lazy artists, they make up a majority of the genre to me. Are there a lot that aren't lazy that I don't know about? Yeah!
Hmm, this is probably where I would agree; especially with Deathcore and some varieties of pop music I would be inclined to agree. However you shouldn't say it's all lazy, since there are some standout artists and do they deserve to be shoved in with the rest of them?
As for the musical spectrum: really? I swing from Opera to metal to irish folk songs. And I don't explore the musical spectrum? That's insulting. Just because I dislike like the rap end of the spectrum, doesn't mean I haven't explored it. I've explored it enough to know that I won't go farther down that section. It's like choosing an oasis over a desert. For me, rap is a desert. There's nothing for me there.
Well... you have given little evidence to suggest that you listen to much more than rock and metal. Do take into consideration i'm talking about dedicated listening and not just; "I can listen to X... meh, they are not too bad.".
