every time you enter the game, when it asks you: "Old Character or New Character" you have to select Old Character for your...old character.

Did you check if you still have your skill points? You can redistribute them.

Also, Jubeh. I looked through all of my settings and nothing suggests that messages are disabled. So I have no idea whassagoinon.

edit: maybe its because i kept all the files in winzip?? but it still saved my guy's name and class... so idk
