What is this?
This thread is the recruitment thread for a number of Terminus Est threads that currently have openings that need or could use filling.
Terminus Est is the uninspired name for numerous Dungeons and Dragons campaigns all being run by myself. The campaigns take all take place in the same universe (well, multiverse, really) and feature recurring characters, themes, and locales, and while each campaign has its own plot, all the campaigns are part of a grander, whole, unified meta-plot.
All of the campaigns are ostensibly taking place at the same time unless otherwise noted (The Drow campaign is a prequel to the other Asul campaigns taking place an undisclosed length of time before the start of Party A), but really it doesnít work out quite right. Just assume one or more of the player characters are Time Lords and things make a lot more sense.
Giant fuck-off Dragons! Bipolar Succubi! Samurai Crabs! Sexy sumo wrestlers! Lovecraftian horrors from beyond the Nine Hells! Terminus Est has it all!
Dungeons and Dragons?
Yes. We play using a heavily modified version of Dungeons and Dragons Revised Third Edition (AKA D&D 3.5). The modifications have been put into place by myself for a number of reasons, but primarily to make roleplay (traditional roleplaying) and rollplay (dice rolling, number crunching, and gamey things) more interesting, to make classes more customizable and balanced, and also to help make the game run smoother in this online format.
Ultimately, like any good DM, I view the rules as suggestions to be taken lightly.
Iím interested, but isnít there a lot of story and rollplay to learn?
Yes and no. Thereís a lot going on and thatís happened so far, but between myself and the other players you can quickly be brought up to speed on the plot so far. As far as rollplay goes, that is even easier! D&D is very easy to learn and for the most part all the apparent complexity is simply the result of very poorly worded rulebooks. Most of the rules in D&D are very intuitive and simplistic. We can have you up and running in no time.
Additionally while most of the campaigns take place on the material plane of Asul, there are several young in-progress campaigns or upcoming campaigns that take place in other planes and thus have little to no baggage and only basic details you need familiarize yourself with.

Campaign C is the Japanese flavored party. You know, ninja, samurai, Oni, that sort of stuff. There are some pan-Asian elements, particularly the Lung Dragons, but by and large the setting and atmosphere for C is Japanese.
Southern Izumo is populated primarily by Humans, with most of the non-Human sapient creatures being either monstrous and evil like the Oni and Bakemono, or stand-offish and isolationist like the Tengu. The major exception are the mighty and majestic Lung Dragons, which the Humans of Izumo view as somewhere between kings and gods - and closer to the latter than the former. The Lung Dragons themselves vary in temperament and disposition, although all are part of the Draconic Bureaucracy which is ruled by the Four Heavenly Kings, the four eldest Tien Lung in all of Asul.
The party are currently working for Rin Shiranui, the power behind the throne of Kusanagi, the most powerful kingdom in Southern Izumo. Rin is known throughout Asul as the most beautiful woman in the world and is actually, secretly, a millennia old Kitsune demi-goddess thing. Yeah. It's a long story.
Initially the party was pitted against the cult of Orochi, a Chaotic Evil deity worshiped primarily by Oni and Bakemono who's stated goals in life are pretty much "I WAS BORN TO MURDER THE WORLD." One thing led to another led to another and, to make a long story short, the party has unearthed a conspiracy that seems to involve Illithids; ineffable, alien, horrors beyond mortal comprehension which, according to Rin, once enslaved the multiverse and murdered even gods.
The party currently has one opening that isn't in dire need fo filling but nonetheless exists. Options are varied.
Campaign E is the Arabian and flavored party, with some Persian and even some Egyptian seasoning tossed in there in parts of the setting, too.
The Great Desert, in the southeast of Asul, is what the name implies. Humans in Ardashir either dwell in a number of city-states or in various nomadic tribes. Kobolds can often be found living in these cities tolerated by disliked minorities. Vicious tribes of Gnolls also roam the wastes, alongside all manner of dangerous animals and monsters. The Ardashiri city-states are magically advanced and also allow a legal, ritualized, form of assassination. The Humans of Ardashir, urban or tribal, tend to worship Pelor primarily, partly because Pelor is one of the three most popular deities among Humans throughout Asul, and partly because when you live in a desert it helps to have the sun god on your side.
South of Ardashir is Bashan, a dangerous region that is home to primarily to often inhospitable Sand Giants and, worse still, to various Devils.
South of Bashan is Kemet, the party's current planned destination. Kemet is one of Asul's oldest, *the* oldest if the Kemetese are to be believed, Human civilizations. Ruled by a unbroken lineage of pharaohs who are believed to be the children of Pelor himself, Kemet today is a shadow of its former glory. 3000 years ago Pharaoh Khaldun accidentally unleashed the Curse of Khaldun transforming the lower half of the kingdom, Khemia, into a land of the dead populated to this very day by endless everdying legions of the Undead. The north half of the kingdom, Khafre, endures to this very day although it is an isolationist and backwards realm cut off from the rest of the world and convinced it still represents the pinnacle of Human civilization and that all other nations are savage realms ruled by barbarians. A benign North Korea of sorts.
Ismat, Reg's character, is currently planning to lead the party to Khafre to loot some pyramids and generally make a fortune. Khafre is backwards but still possesses vast riches.
The party, right now, could most benefit from a Cleric, Bard, or Fighter, particularly a Cleric or Bard..
The party currently has one, maybe two, openings.
Campaign G is the Chinese flavored party (although so is Longmen. Northern Izumo in general is NotChina). Campaign G is especially wuxia flavored with lots of Monks. Everybody was kung-fu fightan'.
Wu is one of the Three Kingdoms of Northern Izumo, a successor to the long-dead Huangdi Empire. Wu is home primarily to Humans and Lung Dragons, the latter of which are venerated by the former and who sometimes deign to intervene in Human politics. Wu's jungles and denser forests are also sometimes home to the monkey and ape like Vanara.
Martial arts are more common as a form of combat and popular entertainment in Wu than even in the rest of Northern Izumo, and many of Asul's greatest martial artists have been from Wu. As with the rest of Northern Izumo, alchemy is also quite important and advanced, and healers are more likely to be Alchemists than Clerics or even Wu Jen. Wu Jen are also quite common in Wu and Northern Izumo, and derive their power from pacts made with the Four Heavenly Kings.
The party, consisting primarily of Monks and Unarmed Fighters, although also a Crabfolk Samurai, are currently employed in the service to Yao, a T'ien Lung Dragon. T'ien Lung are the highest ranking and most powerful of all Lung Dragons and are seen by the people of Northern Izumo as somewhere between kings and gods - and far closer to the latter. Yao is a compassionate, Lawful Good, Dragon who has thus far tasked the party with helping a village under his watch with addressing some problems involving pirates and ghosts.
The party is mostly Monks, yeah, but we could still allow another, maybe, depending on their style. A Wu Jen would also be good, and an Alchemist would be really cool. Alchemists are basically mad scientists. Potions, transmutations, explosives, and fun stuff. Northern Izumo also has Internal Alchemists which are kind of like a odd half-way between Monk and Alchemist. Fun times. This party has one opening, but doesn't NEED it filled. So if you want to join this party, that's fine and cool, we have an opening, but the other parties all NEED players so unless you have literally zero interest in them, I'd prefer you join them.
Longmen, it is said, was built by Dragons at the dawn of time. The largest city on the surface of Asul, the Outer Walls of Longmen enclose an area larger than many kingdoms, an her inner walls enclose one of, if not the, largest and most densely populated cities on the surface of the world.
Longmen is the capital and a microcosm of the kingdom of Zhou. Ruled by the half-Human/half-Dragon Dragon Emperor and home of the Four Heavenly Kings who head the Draconic Bureaucracy, Zhou is a realm heavily influenced and in many ways manipulated by the Lung Dragons who view themselves as the patrons, protectors, and parents of Humanity, civilization, and peace in Izumo. Extremely bureaucratic and highly traditional, Zhou is in many ways a civilization that is slave to ritual, class, and bureaucracy and no where is this more apparent than in Longmen. Longmen itself is subdivided into three 'rings' according to social class. The First Ring being home to the 'poor' of the city and its lower class, although they still enjoy a high quality of living compared to elsewhere in the world. The Second Ring being the home of the middle class, and the Third Ring being the home of wealthy merchants, aristocrats, lined with waterways that house Yu Lung, the juvenile form of all Lung Dragons. Entry to the Third Ring by outsiders is forbidden without written permission. At the heart of the third ring and the very center of the city is Zicheng Palace, the massive estate of the Dragon Emperor, his brides and concubines, his children, and their countless servants. Entry to Zicheng by those not invited in writing is a crime punishable by death.
The campaign is taking place entirely in Longmen. Primarily within the Inner Walls/City Proper, but there likely will be some excursions to the towns and places Between the Walls. I didn't say too much of the plot int he blurb above because fo spoiler reasons. The campaign is opening with a bit of PVP, in fact, with the majority of the PCs working as hired bounty hunters of a sort for the city watch and attempting to bring down a local triad boss. The triad boss in question is one who Gaozi Lian, Reg's character, serves as a mistress and hired muscle for. She's the dragon. How shit goes down with that turning into the party and where things go from there are, obviously, spoilers.
The party currently has two, maybe three, openings. Possible classes are varied and almost anything can work. Longmen *needs* players. So don't be shy.
Drowthread? Drowthread! The Drowthread is a party of (currently) three Drow lasses on a meandering quest for glory, fame, and power.
The Drow are an evil racial offshoot of Elves with dark blue, gray, or black skin, white hair (although they often dye it), and possessed of extreme beauty and grace - even by Elven standards. Otherwise they're physically identical to Elves save for being a bit more fertile and having a higher birth rate.
Drow are decadent, racist, promiscuous, matriarchal, misandrist, superficial, cruel, sadistic and generally just evil and not very nice. Male Drow are at best second-class citizens, and at worse chattel slaves, with noble-born male Wizards being the sole exception. Non-Drow are sometimes permitted to live in ghettos on the fringes of Drow cities, but are most typically are found in Drow cities only as slaves - with slavery being the base upon which Drow civilization is built.
The Drow are an extremely paranoid people and assassination is the primary method of upwards social mobility. Most highborn Drow are so busy guarding from assassins that they rarely get to kill anyone, though. In essence, Drow society is held together by paranoia, hedonism, and fear of Goddess.
The Drow worship the cruel goddess Lolth, Queen of the Demonweb Pits. Lolth is cruel, sadistic, demanding, and unreasonable. Every Drow mother must sacrifice her third-born son to the Goddess, and beyond that her priestesses serve to provide Lolth the constant praise and offerings she demands. Lolth bears little love for the Drow, and their relationship is essentially such that she merely hates them less than she hates everyone else.
Drow society is essentially a constant struggle between the church and the various noble houses (who fight amongst themselves as well). It's an insane culture caught between an insane theocracy devoted to a demanding goddess, and a fickle and avaricious aristocracy.
The Drow live in the Underdark, a vast subterranean environment beneath the surface of the world. The Underdark is a series of caves and caverns, tunnels and vaults, which are poorly explored by surface folk, intermittently settled by natives, and home to all manner of strange and exotic creatures. The majority of Drow settlements are in the Middledark, the region of the Underdark 3-10 miles beneath the surface. The lower one goes in the Underdark, the more dangerous and alien things to get, with the Lowerdark (11+ miles below surface level) being home primarily to Illithids, Aboleths, Beholders, and various other aberrant horrors.
The party at the moment is a trio of Drow cousins from a minor noble house, Alsiif the Demonic Sorceress, Neitar Inthuul the Telepath, and Ryyna Fama the Aristocrat. They've cut ties with their former house and set out on their own as adventurers, hoping to build up the fame, fortune, connections, and holdings needed to start their own house, or, perhaps failing that, at least marry into one of the Great Houses.
For Goddess and Glory!
Race choice is obviously limited to female Drow. At the moment the party could use someone stealthy, so a Ninja would be ideal, but a Rogue may suffice. Something more Fighter-y is also fine. Also Ryyna is an NPC now because Fail left so there's that. Lots of options really :O
We need a good player who won't vanish. The party is open-ended and largely freeform so we need someone who can and will post often, as well. It's like Game of Thrones meets Blackadder meets Rush Limbaugh's paranoid delusions about feminism.
Umbralume is a plane untouched by sunlight for over nine millennia. A plane of endless night ruled by and home to all manner of horrors.
Vampires rule over much of the plane, their Human subjects occupying a role that is a combination and midway point between that of vassal peasants and cattle livestock. Werewolves prey upon Humans by moonlight, both as loners and in packs, oft-times waking the next 'morning' unaware of their activities the past 'night'. The dead are restless in their graves, rising bodily or otherwise to plague the living. The sadistic Drow have long since risen up against their Elven cousins, slaughtering them all and claiming parts of the surface for themselves and their spider goddess; Lolth. All the while the scheming Devils and mortal servants of the Nine Hells plot the subjugation of all in the name of the Enemy, while the vile Demons of the Abyss threaten to corrupt and destroy all; living, dead, and those in-between.
And amidst it all, by moonlight and torchlight, faith and tenacity, luck and skill, the Humans of Umbralume try to do what they have always done - survive. Mobs of pitchfork and torch wielding peasants are aided by experienced and elite crusaders and slayers in their endeavors to keep Humanity from becoming someone's meal and maybe, just maybe, drive the night and all its horrors from Umbralume and live to see a sunrise.
And yet Humanity is assaulted from within as well as without. Necromancers seek to bend the dead to their own nefarious purposes, while mad stitchers and alchemists ply their arcane trades with little care or concern for consequence. Worst of all, there are those who consort willingly with Vampires and Fiends, in hopes of gaining power, pleasure, or perhaps, simply, a small measure of safety.
What a horrible night to have a curse.
Essentially Umbralume is a spooky plane with an aesthetic and tone that's a mashup of Gothic Horror, Gothic Culture/Gothpunk, and Tim Burton-esque aesthetics. Race at the moment is Human only, really. At the moment, the party could really use a Fighter, but a Barbarian or even possibly a Psychic Warrior are possibly acceptable. The party at the moment is Mishkala Trelaozigh, a Drider Assassin, Lucia, a Cleric, and Titian Sanzio, an Alchemist.
Some of the other parties may have other openings. Don't hesitate to ask! Likewise, please keep in mind all the above stuff is quick blurbs. I can and will go into more detail on request about stuff, from the player characters to the setting to what is needed to whatever.
