Seriously if I was British I wouldn't have had to look so hard to find a decent dentist.
The last dude I went to gave me the choice of having a root canal done to try and save a tooth or just having it yanked out. I asked him what he thought the better option was, and whether the tooth was really worth saving. He didn't offer any advice, but my dad told me to try saving the tooth anyway, so I went ahead and got the root canal.
Only after the procedure was done did the dentist tell me that he wasn't going to put a crown on it because the tooth was just going to split in half in a couple years anyway. The dude just wanted the money so he didn't let me go with the cheaper and better (in the long run) option. British dentists don't get extra money from insurance companies, so they probably would have been a little more honest about the whole deal.
