Pfft.
Love this song... that I heard while walking through the grocery store yesterday, and remembered the main lyric to find it this morning, lol.
Icky thump was one of the last physical albums I bought and I remember being disappointed specifically with that song because it is the very definition of shitty album filler but lo and behold it became a single.
I don't think it's a great song, but it's reasonable. Icky Thump is my favourite album by the White Stripes, and sees them synthesise their trademark minimalist blues-rock style with a Latin American and/or Spanish influence. This is most obvious on the singles "Conquest" and "Icky Thump", but the influence permeates the album through and through. However, the quirky experimentation of their earlier albums is also present in tracks such as "Prickley Thorn, But Sweet", which uses a bagpipe to great effect. This diversity of influences enhances, rather than weakening, the overall effect, however, and the White Stripes show they're still capable of heart with tracks such as "A Martyr For My Love For You", which is a mournful ballad about a doomed May-December romance. More of Jack White's blistering guitar playing is also on display with tracks such as "Catch Hell Blues" and "Little Cream Soda", which if I'm quite honest seem more like an excuse for White to show off his impressive skills at slide guitar than genuine creative efforts, particularly the latter. Nonetheless, regardless of their possible lack of lyrical depth, these tracks remain captivating due to White's skillful performances.
etc.
