I dunno if this is the thread for it - but has anyone managed to install and play the Aether mod? Lord knows I've tried like a dozen times. Is there any pre-installed version?

which one is the aether mod? is that the shader one?

@Demonfyre: I don't think we have a server. We usually play on servers that aren't whitelisted. Unless its a really good server, we'll apply to play on it.

ooh yeah, that one. I never tried installing that one. How are you loading the mod up? Are you using some kind of java thing or are you just replacing class files in the minecraft.jar thing?

Latter 'cause that's what the thing said to do. I have no idea how to do the former.

Really why can't they just do mods like the better Dwarf Fortress ones? Include literally everything you need in the download, game program included. I mean, you need to log in and the .jar is free to download anyway, so it's not like they are warez.

Try getting a thing called MC Patcher. It's an easy way of loading mods and stuff into your minecraft.jar file and if anything goes wrong, you can just unpatch it using MC Patcher without worrying about messing up your minecraft.jar file. Though if you want to try the Aether mod, I think you may have to get an older version of MC Patcher because it's just been updated for 1.4.2.
