How do they work? When I reply by a comment on someone, I don't get a copy of it in my profile. Should I quote when I reply? If the question isn't clear, I can provide an example.

Do you mean when you comment on someone's profile? You don't get a copy on your profile because it's just a post on their profile.

It's when I want to reply on a comment, I can:

1- Quote and reply (This will allow me have my comment in my profile)
2- Reply by writing directly in the comment box in my profile (This won't place my comment under his/her comment)
3- Go to his/her profile and reply (This will make my comment be placed under his/her comment, which is how I want it to look like. However, my comment won't be visible in my profile, it will be in his/her profile only)

Example (using #3 option):
