I think that might be a trend they've picked up from Japan. You used to hear stories of specialist shops in Tokyo trying to outdo each other with the number of unopened copies of Radiant Silvergun they could keep behind the counter, just for show...

Reminds me of the comic shops that display these super hardcore rare comics for these outlandish prices just for bragging rights, they so often say 'not for sale' haha... I mean there's no damn way I'd play close to $1000 for a comic anyway, but still.

Honestly, thinking about it, I think it's just the manager wanting to show off his personal collection half the time. Probably exactly the same thing in the case of comic books. But that's like walking into a clothes store because you seen some nice stuff in the window, and all they actually have inside is binbags on coat hangers.

Then, some scrawny old woman with cataracts, hunched in the dark dusty corner, just turns her head to you slowly and screeches "No, the nice clothes are miiinneee, you can't have anyyy~! D:<"

As for Radiant Silvergun... I feel totally bad for anybody who actually spends the full amount of cash on that. It's pretty good, but R-Type Final (PS2), Rude Breaker (PC-98) or Thunder Force IV (Genesis/Mega Drive) are totally on par.
