    ...

Actually, Caverns of Khafka is a nigh-unplayable hunk of garbage, from an age where platformers barely existed, but hey, you can't really say that unless you've lived it. :p

My point was, popularity only garuntees something is easy to explain to other people. If somebody has a taste which you find bizzare, be it an addiction to egg plant curry or Inuit throat singing, it's not like they like it for no reason. They found odd preferances through odd experiences.

"I don't know it, must be bad"
"I don't understand it, must be hipster garbage"

Those kind of statements are incredibly annoying. Else critics wouldn't be nescessary and quality would be measured by popularity

Eh. Edited this post about ten times, but I think we have already established that he's just one of those guys who will keep on finding reasons why he's 2kool4school nomatter what you say to him.

So whatever. I guess I must think I'm hip because I sit around thinking about how ironic the super-lame unhip things I do are. Or something. Or maybe I'm being ironic by thinking about how not-ironic I am.

Yeah, totally a double hipster. You got me.

Wouch man. People take things way too literally on here. *Ahem.*

I like obscure stuff, I like popular stuff, but only if it's GOOD stuff. I think the problem is that we keep saying "it's good," "it's bad" but without giving a very good explanation as to WHY those things are good/bad. Which was sort of the intention of this thread, if I'm not mistaken.

Never said Metallica was bad, just popular.

What I was trying to discuss was the value of niche appeal.

Came for the x, stayed for the y. Came for the boobies, stayed for the economics, kind of thing.

Super true. I don't understand Bleach and I read the first 10 volumes in an attempt to fit with my other nerdling friends. I don't find it bad.. I just don't understand it... two completely different things.
