Have you ever applied for some kind of low income housing? In California we have section 8. It takes a while to get on them but they are worth it. My mom just got it for her and my baby brother and it's a maximum of like $700 for rent (up to a two bedroom home or apartment) and all she has to pay is 40% of her income. Most likely they will have sign ups one time a year.
