It just divides stuff and softens things that don't have support edges. I think it's pretty clean if you keep things in quads...unless you're a fan of modeling with tris lol.
Just scaled down the tiles a bit. Any better?
I'm giving these one more go before I completely trash em and make different ones.

Recently finished my latest art assignment today.
This is pen and ink, india ink to be more specific.
We had to portray the elements of Earth, fire, water, and air
Can you tell which is which?

Gah, these are all good. It's hard to try and find something to critique! (Especially since I know so little about the medium.) In the bottom right one (Fire, I think), it's sort of hard to tell what the focus is, my eyes want to go to the bottom left corner. It seems darker then every other spot, and it really grabs at my attention.
Not sure that's bad though
