F-Zero was older, but I don't think the first one had multiplayer...
Since Shigeru was pretty dedicated to making kart a multiplayer from the start, I would figure the graphics were little worse because they were worried about the poor old Snes pumping out two mode-7 screens at the time. I'm not sure if there are any games that did that before or not. But yeah. I own a bunch of worse racing games on old systems, just because they generally get thrown in for free in flea markets. :p
But what happened? Weren't we supposed to be talking about, like, personal favorite super-bad-terrible-awful games?...

Yes but I will defend mario kart snes to the death. 18-directional sprites and not just one character there's a whole bunch drawn the same way. Clever maps, no blue shells. Brilliant little game.
Anyway re the topic I really the way of the samurai series. I think most fans wouldn't say they're bad but they're mechanically flawed in a lot of ways right down to the core design where you have to play the game like 16 times and do the same things over and over again to get everything. But when you get down to it I enjoyed my 16 playthroughs more than I enjoyed single playthroughs for most games.
Commodore 64. Aw yer.
