Ahh. simple solution: divide all your stuff into 3 groups - 1. Absolutely need it (clothes, books, etc) 2. Don't need it but want it (little knick-knacks) 3. throw away (dump)
Pack Group 1, then depending on space constraints and such pack things from Group 2 according to priority and preference.

That reminds me, I need to start packing as well. Daunting.
