It was all Spongebob and Andy Griffith (which I loved, if I remember right).
I guess I'm a different type of person than all of you. I don't like the rebellious type all that much because a) I skipped my teenage rebellious stage and b) I learned quickly that rules were set for a reason.
That said, one of my favorite characters of all time was a rebel:
Another is a lawyer:
And the last:
I like "good" characters. Kenshin would be chaotic good, Kenichi neutral good, and Phoenix lawful good. There's a lot more to it than that, but it's pretty obvious if you know all the characters.

Leave the internet now please.
But yeah, favorite characters. My absolute most favorite character in all of anime/manga has to be this dude:
He's a good guy with a big heart and a big stomach. He cares about his friends and wants to do what is right - Not just for him, but for the little guy. And best of all, he's got the sheer badassery to back it up. I could have said the same thing about Zolo or Sanji I suppose, but Luffy also has charisma like few others posses.
Another of my favorites is:
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Naruto's a shitty manga, blah, blah, blah. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. There, I said it. So yeah. Lee looks like a tard, but he's a good guy. Compared to everyone in the manga, he's just a normal dude. He doesn't come from super amazing lineage or have a legendary teacher (not to call Guy a slouch) and he's still one of the most powerful characters in his age group. He got where did through hard work and determination.
That guy's derpy face is one of the reasons I have never bothered with Naruto. Who would desgin such an ungly character? D:
To me he is the only character that looks remotely cool in that show.
Most of what Reg likes have already been said. Spike Spegiel... Travis Touchdown... Guess I'll just throw in some mega underappreciated characters instead?
Desty Nova from Alita. Basically he's the Joker plus Oppenheimer, but what's more, is that he isn't a goddamn moron like every other supervillian 'genius'. Rather than destroying the world or anything, he basically just evens the odds, doing grey-area things like giving psychotic dregs new cyborg bodies to settle their old grudges... Oh, and eating lots and lots of flan.
Izumi Maki, from Nadesico. Has all of ten minutes screen time in the entire series, but has the sort of low booming voice, deadpan sence of humour and sinister demeanour that make her one of my favorate female characters going.
So... *Ahem*... Individualist rogues and psychopaths?

All you guys and your shounen characters... Blegh
Anyway, here are a few:
Tomoya Okazaki from Clannad. Say all you want, for a slice of life anime character, he is probably the one of the most hard working and loving characters I've ever seen.
Revy from Black Lagoon anyone? She may be a little crazy, but she's BADASS.
Beatrice from Umineko no naku koro ni. Probably the biggest troll in anime, but one of the best villains. If you haven't seen Umineko, you should watch it just to see how evil she actually is.
