Is there any way to make it so that you get pop-ups letting you know you have pms? It's kind of annoying that the only way you find out about them is when you get the email.

Dashboard > Settings > Privacy Settings > then... something on there. I think it's the compose message thingy. i think it should be on network...

The forum's PM system has been turned off. If you want to use the messaging system, you have to use the one that is part of the rest of the site. Just go to Dashboard > My Messages. You can then hit Compose on the right to make a message. If you prefer, you can also click on the person's username and click Send a Message under the person's avatar.

As for pop-up's, there isn't a pop up but notifications of when you receive a message do appear on the top-right-hand side when you log in or go to Dashboard. Other notices like Friends Requests and stuff are also listed there.

There wouldn't be a way to see that you have unread messages from the forum page would there? It's just that a lot of people don't seem to check their profile/homepage or whatever it is.

No there wouldn't. They can check really easily if they just hit Dashboard on the menu above. All notices are on the top right column in that page include Friends Requests, messages and any comments left in their profile or any of their postings (art, video, etc).
