It's a preference thing. I love the idea of playing a game in which I starve and fear for my (character's) life.
Ironically, survival novels bore me to death--I could never stand The Hatchet or The Lake or anything.
It's that thrill of having to do something most of us would never have to experience, and being in no real danger, but at the same time- feeling like it.

Yeah Tomb Raider is a survival game for the first half an hour or so, where you have to make camp and hunt, but after that you never really have to do any of that again unless you want extra experience :/
But then again the Tomb Raider series has never been a survival game, and I think going completely in that direction would have irked some fans of the series. If you enjoy playing Uncharted, you will really enjoy Tomb Raider. In my opinion the game play is much more polished and diverse than Uncharted, although Uncharted still wins in story, writing, and characters.
Yea Uncharted is pretty great story-wise, even though they recycled the same template and used it for two more games.
Find out about treasure> go after treasure> bad guys> finally get treasure> twist> end.
Yeah there aren't a tone of puzzles, the majority of them - along the main story - are towards the end. There are hidden tombs that you can seek out that generally have a puzzle or two that you solve, then reward you with salvage and xp. I think this game was meant to spend more time shaping Lara as a character - having her go from a bookish, college graduate to a dual-pistol wielding bad ass -, and any sequels will be more tomb/puzzle focused and less kill all the people.
But even if it doesn't I won't really mind because shooting people with napalm arrows is fun.
Man, every game has a bow of sorts now.
Won't be long until even racing games have bows.
Hell, even porn games will most likely have bows in the near future.
First we'd need porn games coming from somewhere other than Japan.
Second Life doesn't count.
