My mom knows a Jewish friend too. I think they have a clause for that in their laws, but they can only eat bacon if they're starving. Or something.

Only kosher Jews. Being a Jew myself, I eat bacon and rare hamburgers (filled with uncooked blood, which is forbidden) all the time.

Anyone see the program "Curiosity: Did God Create the Universe?" on the science or discovery channels?

Something I found which I think is a lot more illuminating than any commandments of any religion. Despite being written by a Christian, these don't really fit any belief structure except, perhaps, philanthropy.

    SPOILER! :
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
    Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
    Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
    Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
    Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
    Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
    Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
    Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
    Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

EDIT: The original is indeed Christian, but this version isn't.

    Mother Theresa, no?

I agree, this applies to just about anything and anyone.

These are probably NSFW but topical. Tim Minchin, for those of you who didn't know, is the modern-day Tom Lehrer except better.
