Bought Metal Gear Solid; Peace Walker for cheap. It's a wishlist of all the things an MGS fan could want!... Exactly how he didn't want it. -_-
Seriously, through, I thought Portable Ops was greatness, like a Battlefield 2 RPG with giant robots. Peace Walker supposedly had more of MGS3's survivalist stuff, vehicles and base building on top of that, so I had high hopes. But what the back of the box doesn't tell you is that they also removed everything that was good about PO; The ability to actually use your other dudes freely, and the short and unobtrusive plot. While you can build your own vehicles and metal gears, it's basically just number crunching with no graphics. For people who actually like the typical overblown melodrama of metal gear plots, take note how most of the characters are supposed to be Costa Rican, and yet are pretty lazily just represented as white people with silly accents. None of the technology makes sense like it did in MGS3, either.
It's like a science experiment. PO had little to do with Kojima and was pretty good. Peace Walker has him at the wheel, and it's a bit of a clusterfuck. Not outright horrible-terrible, just a miss-mash of oddly formed ideas.
I sense George Lucas syndrome.
