Your first posts were terrible too I remember getting all up in your face.

If you didn't notice, it only became one after I said something. Before that it was basically a "Let's make fun of the op by writing stupid comments" thread.

If you didn't notice this was a bad thread. Let's just be straight here. I was literally offended by the op.

Yeah man great modding is just moving shit around before the thread has even gotten started. Let's just move every bad thread to the chatterbox, regardless of the fact that it goes against everything you and cype are saying here because this thread would have been ten times worse there.

Yeah, but I think we can all agree that that first page and a half of comments was not of relevance and were written either just because they had nothing better to say or because they were making fun of the op. (Excluding maybe two posts)

This doesn't help your point even a little bit why did you even say it. That was a direct respont to a post made by cpyressdahlia.

That's the thing, though. In the welcome wagon everyone actually is nice. It's not an accurate representation of the rest of the forum. So if we all act super friendly there and then just suddenly alienate them here, that causes them to leave. I've noticed a couple of people do this on purpose as well.

I agree. Welcome Wagon is deceptively chummy chummy. Common courtesy, in practice, is neither deceptive or repellant, so it's the best policy. You don't have to be friendly to someone but don't go out of your way to mock them. It's a nice midground. Whereas now we have WW where people go out of their way to be nice to you. And then we have GD/CB/etc. where people go out of their way to be un-nice to you as evidenced by the first page of the thread.

The welcome wagon works as intended. The only places that are relatively scary for new members are the GD because most of them are young and have never had to back up their opinions before and the CB where anything goes. This is a problem that can be solved by lurking which is true on any forum. If anything, we are relatively tame compared to most places.

What we can do is try to help people understand that our general discussion is actually full of discussions, whereas some people may be used to circle jerk forums where people just agree with them. We can encourage new members to read the rules so when they do something wrong they aren't shot down by an army of backseat mods. We could realize that making a good thread takes practice (WAT) as evidenced by our resident bad thread makers, BB and Fenn. You guys should also start using the report button. I cannot stress that enough.

I think asking everyone to completely change their attitude would last maybe a week, considering this has happened several times before.

A state of forums existence in which a user can still post, but his posts will only be seen by moderators and admins... In addition, the hellbanned poster is NOT made aware of his special status, and can post endlessly.
