    @ GunZet & Rio:

    See...I can do pretty good BW value with pencil, charcoal & even ink washes. I think my application of screentones is pretty good & my color value with watercolors & colored pencils okay. But I want to do this in Photo Shop, however, & I can't seem to get it right. I have a Wacom tablet (el cheapo BAMBOO FUN) & loads of soft brushes. I've tried applying knowledge from tutorials, but nothing's working for me. If you guys have any advice please let me know.

    Have you tried looking at my basic value tutorial?
    If you have, I don't know what could be the issue. It sounds like you could still be having issues with getting used to the feel of your tablet, maybe you're just so used to traditional tools that it's making it harder for you to get the feel of digital brushes.

    That does help me out a bit. I didn'y know which tools to use...or how to apply them is all. That & going to more advance tutorials forl help like how to color manga skintones. Totally different thing there. With practice, I'm confident I can pull this off. I guess the next sketches I upload here will be excersises in value...till I get it right!

    That's really a lot of sketches...17 layers? Damn. I see lots of eyes and partial complete heads lol.

    Well I don't have anything I can post at the moment (scanner deal).
    But yesterday I started working on this concept character for this dude, starting off with simple thumbnails.
    I found that taking a thick, chisel-point, highlighter or marker of any color, I can make silhouettes a lot faster and easier than I can digitally. Plus it's just funner for some reason, and I can find the shapes I want better. Hmm..

    It's better control of the tool. Unlike digital painting where you can only rely on pressure, RL tools have that three dimensionality that can't be beat.

    Not to mention that if I screw up, I can't erase anything. So it's either accept it, leave it, or build on top of it. Pretty great.

    yeah i kinda realize that i have a problem with head shape and eye placement deal.

    well i hope you guys can keep posting again.
    i just realize that this thread isn't being busy as it should,

    @slurpee

    it's really hard to make advice unless we know what it looks like.
    you might have problem with the shape of the head or hair or center of the face. and it could be anything so we won't really know
