Fenn's pretty much got everything nailed down. If you can, try to bring your own food into the venue because it can get pretty expensive if you buy food inside the event. If you take pictures of cosplayers, be nice and ask before you shoot a picture. Most are more than happy to pose for you. Try to go early because you get to do more things.

You're never too old to go to a anime con. True, the attendee's are mostly in their teens but lots of other folks are in their twenties. I've also seen young kids and older folks though they were fewer in numbers.
