It's not just for cging but they have very helpful things in there. Although it seems quite proffesional and bit scary >_>
Oh yeah, I know about CGsociety. There is another pro site called CG Hub. Lots of professionals on both. You shouldn't be that intimidated imo. Most professionals are pretty cool and aren't hung over who's better and all that bullsh- wanna-be's act like. (Though, if they do - then they've got a serious case of egotism or lack of confidence)
