Checkmate - A comic in progress (Warning. Scattered thoughts are in here.)
Ok. So here's the deal. I'll tell you what it's going to be about and then you guys give me some crits. Please.
Checkmate:
The ancient game of chess has evolved into more than just a board game. The stadium is seperated into different areas around the world. There are boundries set into the ground that will send you into a different area ranging from space to empty plains. These are called squares. The player has to navagate these squares on a rough turn to turn basis. Leading the 'pieces' into their attack positions is the leader of the team. Only this leader can see the other team movement. They are also named the kings. Kings are chosen at random and each time the opposing team enters a square that your team member is in, you have to help him track it down. A fight ensues until one is either maimed or surrenders. The winning team gets to choose if the opposing team gets to survive or turn it over to the wheel of shame to decide.
The fact is, when Fredrick Van Kiem steps into the world of Checkmate, the game stops being a game.
Other Information:
Teams go in with a Pawn, Rook, Bishop, Knight, Queen, and lastly of course the king. The first game that the team plays, they go in not knowing who they will be grouped with. They are then assigned a duty from one of the 6 choices and they are given weapons to complete the game with. If the team survives, then they are allowed to stay as a team or try to trade off a member to another team.
Each team is usually made with the spear/lance man as the knight, Melee specialist as the Pawn, 2 Handed swordsman as the Rook, Bowman/Gunman as the bishop, Jack-of-all-Trades as the Queen, and the 1 handed swordsman as the King. They dress up in armour given to them to match the role they will be playing as. If you win the first fight, then you have the chance to buy clothes made with the special fibers made to withstand the warps that transfer them to each square.
The gates to squares will hint at what will be on the next side. if it is a space square, there will be a suit where you have 3 minutes to put it on before you are sucked into the warp. Kings cannot tell what squares have which area. The visor and headphones they wear have a mic attached to it for the king to be able to communicate with his team. In the leagues the team members each have a screen following them for people to watch them and for them to be able to have a visual contact with the king.
blah. It's still missing stuff, but I'm gonna make it better. Promise.
