It's probably the ambient occlusion hitting the shadows really hard haha. But I don't like the tiles either, they're sorta like placeholders until I make ones that actually fit the surface all the way. Notice how you can still see underneath the tiles >_> bah.

3Ds Max 2010. Just lots of primitives, some splines here and there, and a bit of turbosmooth on some objects such as the boxes.

It's looking good man, though I agree about the roof tiles.
Cause I hate using nurbs lol. I feel like it messes with my geo. So I just go with prims, and then use support edges and stuff. Plus I usually work back and forth with Zbrush.
