View Full Version : Specific terms that do not have english words but should
05-23-2011, 02:21 PM
This is a thread for a situation or term that doesn't have a word but should.
For example there aren't words for:
-When all the ingredients of a hamburger slide out as you're trying to eat it
-When you sit down and the chair is already warm from somebody else's butt
-When you're walking in the opposite direction of somebody you know and you're not sure if you're supposed to nod or wave or what.
Also if there are words for these things in other languages let us know.

Haven't I come up with some words for a couple of those things already.

Maybe but they obviously didn't stick so don't act like you're some sort of linguistic trendsetter.

There should be a word for when you make up a word for something but it doesn't stick so you don't get to be a linguistic trendsetter.

If someone is like that, they could be called Utrensious.

Or they could be called john

James, don't be so utrensious.

The word "tingo" in the language Pascuense is “the act of taking objects one desires from the house of a friend by gradually borrowing all of them.”

I'm sure that's one of those all-too-specific slang terms like "chickenhead" or "hollaback girl".
You need a word for when you want to sneeze but it won't come out.
When you walk along and some one is walking in the opposite direction and you come face to face only to step sideways out of each others way to again be in eachothers way again. Usually this leafs to the start of a weird slide left and right dance.
