View Full Version : Top 10 & Bottom 10 of this gen.

04-27-2011, 01:39 PM
Post your top 10 and bottom 10 (the first place of the bottom is going to be the worst) games of this generation. Remakes, reboots and other don't count, only games of this gen (ex: no street fighter II, but yes to street fighter IV). Also you specify if you are making groups according to consoles (example: top 10 ps3).

so go go go.

Xbox 360 Top 10 list (there are ps3 games, but as i don't own a ps3 this is my xbox 360 list).

10. Marvel vs Capcom 3: Many pro fighter gamers are going to kill me for this, but I have never get so much entertained by a fighting game as I did with this. Every character feels different and choosing a team make the gameplay more much rich than just having one character in the match. Even so it has obvious problems in many things, this is a fighting game I really enjoy.
9. Portal 2: glorious, glorious game.
8. Red Dead Redemption: Ok, I'm working on a western comic, so you now know how much of a fan I am.
7. Eternal Sonata: Call me sissy or what ever, but this rpg fucking rocks. If you feel your manhood in danger by playing this game, then you are the girlish persona alive, because you are missing a one hell of a ride.
6. Bioshock: Fuck capitalism, fuck religions, fuck communism, anything is good when is about genetic reconfiguration.
5. Gears of War 2: This is manly game, and playing it on line is just a explosion of testosterone. I agree of his many flaws, but the maps and the balance is great.
4. The Darkness: I was never a fan of the comic, but this new approach to Jackie and his relationship with his girlfriend and the powers of The Darkness was fucking awesome.
3. Halo Reach: A great on line game and a awful campaign, but hey, who cares about the campaign?
2. Mass Effect: Specters are like jedi, but in a Han Solo way. So how is that not cool enough?
1. Mass Effect 2: When you think that anything can get cooler, it become even more.

Bottom 10 Xbox 360.

10. COD Modern Warfare 2: Yeah, multiplater sucks.
9. Dead or Alive: I love boobs, I love womans, and I love them even more with less cloth. But don't mix them in a fight unless there is jelly.
8. Vampire Rain: Never a vampire game was so feared.
7. Alone in the Dark: Now alone in the trash.
6. Any Soccer or Sport game.
5. Lips: I love music games, but this one took everything in the worst possible direction.
4. Two Worlds: 2 worlds one trash can.
3. Any movie based video game.
2. Oblivion: BORING.
1. Final Fantasy XIII: I felt raped after playing this.

What about just top 3 and bottom 3...10 is a bit much

04-27-2011, 02:46 PM
Actually I feel that 10 bottom its short. I have plenty of games in my head at the moment that deserve to be in that list.

04-27-2011, 03:02 PM
Well Imma just write the top ones that come to my head *shrugs*

1: MW2. Never played the mp, single player is great
2: The Gears of War series
4: Dark Void

04-27-2011, 03:27 PM
Top (Going by PS3, Wii, and PC)

1. GTA 4 <PS3>
2. Valkyria Chronicles <PS3>
3. Eternal Sonata (Clock, I agree: I loved this game) <PS3>
4. Dragon Age II (Everyone says the new combat sucks, but I like it more than in the original) <PS3>
5. Modern Warfare 2 (I've never played multiplayer either) <PS3>
6. Oblivion (Heavily modded--MUCH better on PC than any other console) <PC>

. . . I haven't played that many games, really. With their prices getting up to $60 per title, and me being unemployed, I haven't bought near as much as I usually would.

1. . . . yeah. I don't even buy games I know I won't like.

04-27-2011, 04:00 PM
Why has Demon's Souls not been mentioned

04-27-2011, 04:05 PM
Because is a PS3 exclusive and most people can play his console games online right now.

04-27-2011, 04:05 PM
Forgot to add Army of Two on my top.

04-27-2011, 04:12 PM
Top 10 in no specific order:
1. Minecraft
2. Super Meat Boy
3. Fallout: New Vegas
4. Dynasty Warriors 7 yeah I said it
5. No More Heroes series
6. Demon Souls
7. Monster Hunter Tri
Running out of ideas

The only bad games I recall playing this gen are the newest castlevania game and mw2.

04-27-2011, 04:20 PM
what about mass effect

not so much the 2nd one

04-27-2011, 04:20 PM
I didn't really like the first one tbh

04-27-2011, 04:28 PM
At the beginning I couldn't like the game play and all that, but after a while I learned to stop worrying and love the mass effect (10 points for who get this).

04-27-2011, 04:37 PM
Starcraft 2 FTw.

04-27-2011, 05:22 PM
I think I have one for the bottom list. And that would be Halo3 ODST. Said it before though.

04-27-2011, 06:56 PM
Top Ten ~
1: Mass Effect 2 (I loved #1, but this was so much better)
2: CoD 4
3: Portal (Going to get #2 soon, first one was amazing)
4: Gears of War 1/2
5: Halo series (3 and Reach, ODST stunk)
6: CoD MW2 (I don't understand you guys, I love the multiplayer I just get pissed off at it a lot)
7: Bioshock
8: Fallout 3/New Vegas
9: GTA 4 (Mostly for free mode... Chopper fighting ftw)
10: Battlefield Bad Company 1/2

I never buy bad games so I don't have any for the worst... I make sure to check all the reviews beforehand.

04-27-2011, 08:44 PM
does spore count as this gen, in that case its on my bottom 10

04-28-2011, 01:53 AM
Current gen... is that means we could include NDS and PSP too? BTW, why no one include Vanquish on their list? It's one of the best games >_<

04-28-2011, 03:20 PM
Everytime I hear 'Vanquish' I go like 'THAT GAME IS AWESOME!.'

And then I forget all about it until someone mentions it again. The name just doesn't stick with me for some reason o.O

04-28-2011, 03:30 PM
I didn't like it.

Is like clashing Gears of War with Mass Effect but taking away the manly hardcore of GoW and the awesome story of Mass Effect. So you have a bad story game, with lack of epic things, and with annoying game play (the dash is awful, and it does look awful). Also I didn't like the graphics.

04-28-2011, 03:33 PM
Whats funny is I thought the "manly hardcore" stuff in gears of war was supposed to be ironic. After I played it and found out they played it straight it seemed kind of hilarious.

But in vanquish its definitely ironic. The main character is super american.

Its also the kind of game you're supposed to play over and over until you're good at it. It makes sense it wasn't popular, since that kind of game you typically find on handhelds and stuff.

04-28-2011, 03:35 PM
Maybe I didn't like because of the USA factor in it.

Also I didn't found the game hard to play, like the stages weren't so hard or anything (or the mechanic was hard). And when the manly thing I'm talking, is how the GoW open you an easy chance to play quarter combat.

04-28-2011, 09:17 PM
GOW is strangely realistic and unrealistic at the same time. Why those elite soldiers wear such a bulky armor but never wear a helmet? Is that ... the manliness you seek?

I haven't got a chance to beat the game since I've only played a bit of it so I can't really vouche for the difficulty but typically clover/platinum make games that are meant to be perfected. Like you know what I mean? You get really good at it, play on ridiculous difficulties and feel like a champ because why not you fucking earned that shit. Then you put your run on youtube and dudes call you gay because you're using something they think is cheap.

To me that is the ultimate high.

This are the stuffs I didn't like:
-Futuristic Cold War: This fight between communism and capitalism is retarded in the story, especially because as being a person with a more socialist inclination I felt kinda offended. I like my futuristic games as: the union of mankind in one big organization, or fight between mankind, but for new things that the sci-fi universe is giving (new planets, energy source, different alliances between alien races?) which the second it does happens, but come on! why russians?! why it has to do cold war II?! (and this is why you create new organization for futuristic mankind, so the political message wouldn't be so obvious).
-TPS (third person shooter) Iron Man and noob enemies: You are a over powerful Iron Man, and your enemies are robots (?) which don't do many shit, until they bring the big robots (?), which are... weaker than you. I felt like MasterChief, but faster and more resistant.
-Silly story.
-Silly character design: a guy with an prosthetic arm bigger than a tank, and he has no back problems.
-Texture: Yeah I didn't like the textures and some stuffs on the graphic.

What I did like:
-Design on weapons: many futuristics fps have bullet weapons (yeah, 1.000 years of technology advances haven't finished the war of bullets) and here is no different, but there are variety and weapons does look kinda cool some times.

Now with this game I don't feel I can give a clear judgment (its never a clear judgment), because it start in something I didn't like in a personal way, so most of my view might be extremely biased (If you start the story killing communists robots, I'm not going to be very pleased... especially if I'm forced to play for US of A).

Carmine wore a helmet at all times. Then his knowledge ended up all over the cobblestone.
Helmets don't do shite in the GoW universe unless you're a locust.
I also read somewhere that most COGs don't wear helmets due to them limiting your FOV.

Warioland: Shake It! is one of my top 10 for sure

05-08-2011, 04:39 PM
In no particular Order

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Demon auctions made recruiting demons so much more convenient and easy to deal with
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume
Always loved the VP series on principled of what it is and it's mechanics, but this is the first time i actually enjoyed the series
Final Fantasy XIII
Most of the complaints i've heard are valid, but the good outweighed the bad for me
Warioland: Shake it
I love Wario's platforming outings, and this one is just great
Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Finally creates an Item crafting system that doesn't suck, also battles manage to improve on the already improved battles in 3.
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Resident Evil 4 is a solid game, the light gun style aiming only did good things for it.
Valkyria Chronicles 2
Having never played the first one, this has to go on my list instead
Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy
The battles just work, especially the whole Bravery vs. HP bit. Also it has Gilgamesh
Gears of War 2
Horde Mode. seriously just that and only that.
Resonance of Fate
So many good ideas from a gameplay standpoint, amusing character chatter in battle. seriously i only had 9 games and this is one of those 'I really love it on principle, it's just not as enjoyable as i'd like

Final Fantasy XIII
Did i Like it, yes. Is it still a game in need of lots and lots of help, OHHH YEAH.
9 other games i cannot think of
seriously all my candidates for this list aren't bad, just not as good as they should or could have been (e.g. Dragon Quest IX)

05-09-2011, 03:04 AM
I prefer original VP over the DS one. What makes it so interesting, since I find it too hard...

05-09-2011, 07:57 AM

10.Mario Kart series: everytime i play this i get a bit of a nostalgia boner(metaphoricly, ofcourse). it's easy to pick up and ass-loads of fun. until you get hit by a blue shell and you wish your retarded little nephew was never born.

9.Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2: this game is a direct sequel to the animated movie Heavy Metal. now i know what you're thinking:"why the hell would they do that?" frankly, i have no fucking clue what so ever but i'm sure it'll have some good reason.
even tough it's an enjoyable game, there's one little thing that bugs me... the voice acting can sometimes sound i little...cheesy, bu then again that's the risk you run using pornstars as voice actors (no joke).

8. Dodonpachi: This has got to be one of my favorite arcade games of all time, even tough i've played very few bullet-hell games, this one is actually very enjoyable. also, giant lasers on helicopters.

7.Call of Cthulu: Dark corners of the earth: This is in my opinion one of the most underrated horror games in history. i like the emphasis on sneaking and puzzeling rather than going in guns ablazing, plus it's set in the Cthulu mythos. there is one major problem with the game tough. the pc version is glitchy and buggy like hell, wich really tends to kill the gameplay from time to time. so if you really want to fully enjoy the game, get the xbox version if you can find it.

6.Darkwatch: Steampunk, vampires and cowboys. what more could you want in a game? never in my life have i ever enjoyed a game as much as this one.

5. Clive Barker's: Undying : They really nailed the atmosphere in this one, the weapon system i somewhat remarkeable in this game seen as guns go in your left hand and you use spells with the right. great game nonetheless, also has some slight refferences towards the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

4. Painkiller: The game was originally meant as a tribute to oldschool games such as Doom, Wolfenstein and Serious Sam. it has one of the most strangely awesome weapons i've seen in a game. for example: a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning, the only way that could be more awesome would be if the gun had tits on it and was on fire like Yathzee once said.

3. Doom 1,2 and Final: Why 3 games at number three? well, they pretty much are the same game but with different levels a few extra monsters and such, but it's still fun like hell especially when you use it with the BrutalDoom mod...

2. Super Smash bros. Melee: this game is basicly troll science that actually works. allow me to explain: the game is basicly a shitload of nintendo characters fighting eachother to the death, with all sorts of items. and voilla PROFIT!!!

1. Dead Rising: In this game you just don't kill zombies, you humiliate them. small example: 1. put a bucket on a zombie's head 2. then beat the shit out of it with a giant fish. need i say more?

1. Call of Duty: unless you're a 13 year old sexist redneck piece of shit, avoid this game at all costs!

2. Movie licenced games: don't believe me? play Iron Man for a few minutes and you'll see what i mean.

3. Propoganda games: Seriously? left behind? GUITAR PRAISE?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!??

I prefer original VP over the DS one. What makes it so interesting, since I find it too hard...

The original VP always sticks with me for having two major problems and one minor problem;
Battles were a little unevenly balanced. If you stuck to the fun combo happy normal attacks you would be lucky to kill more than one enemy a turn. However, If you knew the enemy weakness and used multi-target spells/attacks of said element, random encounters became a joke.

Overly long melodramatic one off stories every time you recruited a character (sans The Seraphic Gate). Not that these were bad, but their length plus being unskippable really shots replay value down. although some still stay entertaining on multiple viewings, for example Badrach

Gets kind of Grindy at the end, not as bad as VP2 (which was just grindy period) but still the last phase has 0-2 new dungeons depending on difficulty and nohthing else, plus the finale is brutal if you don't use every period of every phase by reruning dungeons for EXP

CotP works to fix these problems, there are only so many battles depending on your route so there can be no grinding, characters don't have to explain their depressing lifestory when they meet you (or if they do, they spread it over multiple shorter cutscenes) and battles always but up a challenge, sometimes too much of one (and thats not including the 2-3 battle in a row with no saving excursions in chapter 5 of the story)

Of course CotP has still got issues, the plume mechanic is kinda of meh and the game gets much better when you hit the Seraphic Gate and don't have to worry about it. The game can be ridiculously brutally hard on a first play through if you don't know the 'easy' path (As shown by this (http://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/945462-valkyrie-profile-covenant-of-the-plume/faqs/56016)) while being almost too easy on a new game plus run (you keep all plume skills, all equipment, all learned skills, and large chunks of your inventory including stat boosting items). not to mention the Seraphic Gate requires you to get all three endings just to unlock it.

Still, i enjoyed the game alot. as much, maybe more than the original, but the original ( unless you want to count the PSP re-release) was two generations ago
