I know the hair is goofy and one of the eyes is slightly awkward. Its the best I could do for right now. Pointers and tips would be appreciated

LOL nah this is pretty ok. I'll just tell something for you to look out and polish and you do what you want. Ok So it looks to me that your right handed right? When you draw something if you want it to look smoother use shorter lines. It will look smother and and it wont have jagged edges! Also the neck should be more in the center rather then bit to the right. You drew a portrait that looks directly at us so the neck should be in the middle. The nose seems a bit to the right, when you draw a portrait that is looking directly at us you probably wouldn't see that nose like that,. You would only see a bit of nostrils and some shadows. Still a VEARRY GOOD first try. Try taking some references of you your dad, random peapol on internet and Google, your gardener or anyone else in try and draw them! :D

Thank You Gedeon ^^ I appreciate the pointers. and for some reason I did the same thing with the neck on my second try. I can understand what you're saying though, I will be sure to take note of it! One thing that confues me though is that you said shorter lines will make something look smoother? I don't quite get it.

when you use short lines you AT FIRST have some unnecessary lines,BUT after a little erasing action its smooth as a baby's bottom. :D And the one line has jagged edges all the way....^-^' i don't have a steady hand.....
