Rurouni Kenshin and Battle Angel Alita are some other good ones. Not really into martial arts but Fullmetal Alchemist definitely has fights of the magical kind. D*Gray Man is also action packed which you may want to check out.

Rurouni Kenshin, Death Note, and D. Gray-Man are all really great animes and mangas.

I like all the manga that has been recommended so far, but I recommend these not-as-well-known pieces of awesomeness:

Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru, World's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, and Bloody Monday (1 and 2)

Check 'em out! >_<

Rio
12-15-2010, 08:32 PM
You read Minoru? Love that series! I'm totally psyched to see the tournament. Have you read Kongou Banchou? That's like action packed as well. For other martial arts, I would recommend Ultra Red, ARM (All Rounder Meguru), Kenji, Gorouden, and Teppuu (what I recall off hand atm).

12-15-2010, 11:27 PM
Yeah, I'm reading Kenji too! Though it's from the 80's it is so sweet. I think I browsed Kongou Banchou, but I don't recall. Yeah, I'll definitely check out your list Rio.

And yeah, the Ninja arc was really cool in Minoru, and I'm looking forward to this tournament. I can't believe the squinty-eyed captain wants to take on Mutou!

Rio
12-16-2010, 10:18 AM
I'm actually looking forward to seeing him fight Mutou. He's not bad after seeing the ninja arc. I think that's the only time we've actually seen him fight... :?

Every time these threads appear I always say Beck or Cromartie High School, but I wonder how many people actually read and/or watch them.

Rio
12-16-2010, 06:21 PM
I tried reading Beck and I didn't like it. As for Cromartie High School, I haven't checked it out yet so.... yeah.

Hayashida
12-16-2010, 07:32 PM
Beck I think someone would only really like if they were really into music prolly.
Cromartie is a must read though because it's just straight up hilarious. Though I don't know how it's possible, but some people just don't understand it. Though you would know if you liked it or not within reading the first chapter, so you can see if it's worth your time right away.

I think Beck anime would be better since it's about music. Like Nodame Cantabile.
Does it have awesome background music and really good tracks?

Rio
12-17-2010, 10:05 AM
I like Nodame Cantabile but I just... don't like Beck for some reason. I'm not really into Nana either which is another music manga. There is also another music manga called L'cordo D'oro or something and it was promising but the main character just bugged the hell out of me. Maybe it's just the characters that were a turn off in general that I've never read the rest of the series.... :

This is a good series to start off on, mostly because its understandable, somewhat relatable, and captures the eyes of younger readers (teens-young adult) A+ Manga and anime

You're welcome!! I'm glad you likes. :D

(Of hand, the one who made Kangoh Banchou also did Ultra Red. Too bad Ultra Red got cut short but I'm glad to see Kangoh Banchou doing well.)

Has anyone mentioned Hellsing yet? It's pretty good, and has a lot of action. I wish I had the whole series :( But what I've read, I like a lot.

Blue_Dragon

Vampires, Nazis, and ridiculously religious zealots at the Vatican. In a nut shell.

Better description:

The Van Helsing family has worked protecting England from all sorts of bad stuff for centuries--and the newest heir is no exception. She's been able to unleash their most power enemy-turned-ally, Alucard (read it backwards...ooooo!) to continue fending off foes. Throw into the mix an amateur police chick with massive breasts (if you like that sort of thing) who is just at the wrong place at the wrong time, and ends up becoming a vampire and servant to Alucard. A bunch of vamps trying to gain ultimate power, the Vatican and other European nations struggling for power, and mutant vampire armies created by Nazis to take over the world (this may be a bit inaccurate, as it's been a while since I've read it.)

It's pretty good. Lots of action, lots of blood (be forewarned.)

Wow, sounds cool but it might be confusing? And is the big boob police chick the main character? Or is it about another chick in the van helsing family?

She's a main character, but no relation to the Helsings. It's just coincidence that she gets in the way. Actually, she gets shot at the beginning and Alucard gives her the choice to die from her wound, or become a vampire. It's actually not confusing, I just suck at explaining it. Sorry! Here's the wikipedia link, which is probably better at explaining:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellsing

Ah, Hellsing. That's another series I totally forgot about but it's one I mean to read through. :writes Hellsing down on To-Read list:

Btw, I've recently been reading Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist). It's a new series picked up by Viz and will be localized. The artwork is like D*Gray-Man and Soul Eater. It's about the son of Satan (human with devilish powers) who wants to become an exorcist like his father (human, adopted father).

Also Hellsing's author recently-ish started his new manga, Drifters. It's about historic figures being transported into a LotR type place (They even call the halflings Hobbits).

I really liked Buso Renkin. it's by the same author as Rurouni Kenshin, so if you read and liked that, you'd probably like this one too. there's a lot of action and the story is really engaging. it's a bit on the short side though, only 10 volumes.
and I'm going to recommend Black Cat also. it's my favorite. <3333
