Hopefully some of you'll give me some critic on my progress and things i should improve on.

Personally i think i've improved a bit

Early 2010:

Mid 2010

Late 2010

12-03-2010, 08:38 AM
Woah man. You have really improved with your coloring! I see that all that practice has paid off. Good job man.

12-03-2010, 09:50 AM
Dude you've improved lots :D Kudos

12-04-2010, 07:44 AM
jaidurn: Yeah, I still have a long way to go XD

Zizi: Thanks! Kudos

12-28-2010, 06:48 PM
A fox girl i've been working on

Edit: Why the heck won't the site change my images DX Oh well

12-29-2010, 04:44 AM
Nice. I really like how the dress is, the folds are very well done. The gun's pretty awesome, too.

Alas, I have no critiquing to do :P Just wanted to say it looks good! Do you plan on coloring and posting?

01-02-2011, 04:19 PM
Blue_Dragon: Finished!

This took me around 20+. Coloured in SAI

Edit: Tweaked some colours

01-02-2011, 06:14 PM
firstly wow :D thats so cool i like the girl she is really cool

but i think the colouring dosent really blend in with the girl in my opinion
also i think you should really try and add more on the background because its very vague but adding the bottles was a nice touch but again the colouring dosent really work with the girl or the girl dosent work with that background

side note. i like your stuff but why dont you try and be abit of moe anime style colouring
it probs wont work but try it :)

01-03-2011, 07:44 AM

Yeah i get your point. The colouring (before i put it through some editing) made the girl stand out more compared to the background. + yeah i need to work on bg details.
Anyway thanks. ++ ill try some simple cellshading xD

01-03-2011, 11:42 PM
I like your coloring, but I see that there could be some improvement made with your lighting. Like on the lady with the blue hair. She should have a golden tinge to her hair, and her tail is too bright. The shadows would be longer, and her tail should be darker, given the range of the shadows. Consider the saturation and position of your colors. Study where light falls....etc.

01-05-2011, 05:17 PM
Sunny: Thanks for the critic. Always something new to be learned. Ill work on it

Been watching Cowboy Bebop latley. Its awesome
Decided to do a drawing of Spike. I used SAI (as always). I thinking about drawing the other guys as well...

01-09-2011, 02:54 PM
Doubble post:

Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop - finished

01-09-2011, 04:24 PM
Dude. That is amazing. *A* Good job.

01-10-2011, 11:11 AM
:O i like that alot
but the nose is abit funny, like not straight

01-10-2011, 12:34 PM
very nice! i like your style. keep up the good work :D

01-11-2011, 12:23 AM
nice he looks a little young tho

01-13-2011, 06:16 AM
jaidurn: Thanks!

Axion: His nose is a bit funny

alxsmpgmr: Thank you

Evil_Cake: Hm... yeah

01-15-2011, 07:03 AM
Need to work on skulls and tones

01-15-2011, 09:22 AM
there is no bone beside the jaws...i think it shouldn't be there, but make it thinner and see.

01-16-2011, 06:27 AM
Yeah XD I was a bit confused myself because there was a bone in the ref pic i used, but looking at it now it was the back of the head. I didn't manage to get the perspective right DX Anyway thanks!

01-16-2011, 08:10 AM
No problem! :)

01-16-2011, 10:34 AM
And here is the coloured version. Did it using Soft Pastel.

01-26-2011, 10:21 AM
Any critic on the anatomy. + No, she won't be naked

01-27-2011, 03:17 AM
No, she won't be naked

01-28-2011, 06:27 PM
Ok... No help XD

Should turn up the timer from 30 sec to 45 sec...

01-28-2011, 10:45 PM
HOLY COW! you've improve so much dawg! 8D. Great croquis drawings. Try to focus more on the edges and corners of the human body. Don't be afraid to make them more geometrical. C:

Keep it up dawg!

02-02-2011, 01:39 PM
doghateburger: Thanks dude!

Working on more croquis. Did these on a4 paper and with a 30 sec clock. They are small because of Conceptarts freaking size limits...

02-02-2011, 04:37 PM
It's tough doing 30 second sketches and it feels like your fighting the clock in most of these. I suggest making sure you include a line for the backbone as your first step for the piece. Finding the curve of the backbone lets you find the flow of the figure. If it makes sense, you can follow the curve all the way down the weight bearing leg as well. This would be the entire kinetic chain of the figure and with that you can see how balanced the character is in their posture. And you can do all of that with one or two quick strokes. After that it's just adding on to the curve to form the rest of the body.

You can take this idea or leave it, it's just how I plan when approaching this type of work.

02-10-2011, 05:36 AM
Thanks for the help nisaren! Helped a ton xD Ill post my newer sketches when i get home xD

02-10-2011, 04:17 PM
I've been thinking on how i can improve my style and I think I've found the "answere": Realism!
If i know all of the rules I can bend them to what I would like to see ofcourse i can't draw manga without looking at the manga/marvel/anthro etc. Ofcrouse ill never stop drawing manga, but i'll focus more on realism(colours, people, shading, details etc) till i feel satisfied and then ill put all my efforts into manga/anthro styles...

So here is a drawing i did to improve my realism! Keanu Reeves

02-10-2011, 10:37 PM
lol Keanu never changes facial expressions... Do you have the reference to that?

02-11-2011, 04:01 AM
lol Keanu never changes facial expressions... Do you have the reference to that?

Here ya go

02-11-2011, 05:39 AM
Yep, for the most part, all of the features of his face are extremely right-on accurate. I would recommended smudging if you are shading in skin.

Keep it up, it's great!

02-16-2011, 05:17 PM
PWhit: Thank you! I will!

Here is some stuff i've done on gb:
Last one is a collab between me and wolf. I drew the one on the left

02-16-2011, 05:32 PM
I noticed Jasmine right off the bat, good job on catching the likeliness there.

02-19-2011, 10:34 AM
GunZet: Thanks!

Decided to practice a bit on colouring(monochromatic). So I used this http://purplekecleon.deviantart.com/art/How-I-See-Color-A-Tutorial-184642625

It's Lucario!

02-19-2011, 08:20 PM

I've Checked dat thread!

02-24-2011, 05:35 AM
Cubism portrait i did in PS for my art class

02-24-2011, 05:39 AM
That. is. crazy. Nice work bro, self portrait?
That is all I have the energy to write right now. And I don't think I could crit this thing even if I tried.

02-27-2011, 06:24 PM
indescribable: LoL, thanks XD And yeah, its a self portrait

Need some critic~~ (changed it a bit - Thanks to Hamachi)

03-01-2011, 01:16 PM
Started on the shading

03-01-2011, 01:22 PM
Looking P good so far. I like the perspective and also the cloud's are looking good as well. Just one thing bothers me... The main cannon looks a little too big.... Nah maybe its just me.

03-01-2011, 02:32 PM
There is something odd about the main cannon, I agree. I think it's a perspective problem. The tank's turret is facing just a little bit to our left while the cannon is pointed even further to the left. Wouldn't you be able to see a little of its connection with the turret at that angle?

03-01-2011, 06:13 PM
MiKuRu & nisaren: Thanks! Hopefully this looks a bit better xD

03-02-2011, 06:01 PM
So, here is the finished version!

I need critque!

03-02-2011, 07:18 PM
The people up top and the manned turret all look nice, no probs there
But on the large turret piece. I think the lines are a tad toooo sharp, it leaves a lot of room for more detail to be thrown in, either textures or drawn detail. I'd try using dark dark blues where areas are supposed to be shadowed, and there seems to be a perspective issue which has been brought up before. Try reducing the size. One more thing, with shadows, try adding highlights where the light really hits.
That is all

03-04-2011, 05:07 PM
Maybe these will help you with the transition from tank to cannon:

03-21-2011, 05:21 PM
GunZet & Rio: Thanks! I'll keep that in mind!

A boy and his Snivy
The pokemon trainer from Black and White. Will colour

03-21-2011, 05:44 PM
Looking really good. The only thing I see that feels weird to me is his left arm (From our prospective) looks a little shorter than it's supposed to be. Other than that, awesome.

03-22-2011, 10:46 AM
I think the person's right (our left) arm looks a little disjointed as well. When you raise your arm to wipe your brow normally your shoulder is raised as well so it looks odd that the shoulder is actually lower on that side. I'm not sure if Ozza was referring to this arm as well, but the forearm and hand do look a little small for body. A nice thing to remember proportion-wise is that you should be able to cover your face with your hand. His fingers just look too small to be able to do that. Aside from that, very nice piece.

03-23-2011, 04:00 AM
I think oz is right. His arm looks a bit short. the albow should be farther out and lower. Allso snivy looks kinda small (that might just be me tho. i just imagine him a bit bigger.) but everything else is awesome and looking good.

03-27-2011, 01:51 PM
major improvements, great job!

03-28-2011, 02:27 PM
The Pokemon picture is my favorite of yours. The tank looks nice as well, but I'm not big into mechanics, so I don't think I can give any quality critiques.

From beginning to end, I think your lineart has improved the most.

. . . Wow. For me being so talkative on MSN, I don't have anything to say here. *Fail*

04-01-2011, 05:27 PM
Ozzaharwood & nisaren: Thanks! I've fixed the arm and the hand and the shoulder.

Psy: I think I'll keep Snivy like that XD Maybe he is a bit small

ryuk8apples: Thanks! 8D

Matt: Lol, thanks matt! xD

So i fixed the trainer. Here is also some other stuff. I'll start colouring tomorrow

04-01-2011, 05:30 PM
wow @_@ you sure improved a lot :) you work is a lot cleaner and natural, no stiffness, I still need to work on this aspects T_T

04-09-2011, 07:09 AM
Nerdonoff: Thanks dude. I still feel that my poses are very stiff DX

Some more gb stuff

04-09-2011, 12:37 PM
Holy balls dude, when did you go and get AWESOME? 8O

Really the only thing that bugs me right now is the very last pic. The fur on her tail seems so chunky. If you take a look at the way a wolf's or a dog's tail is shaped it doesn't really have that blade like shape unless the fur is very thin and heavy. On animals with thicker, coarser hair the effect causes the tail to be very round and soft in shape and texture. If you look at a wolf the tails are often very cylindrical in shape and the fur doesn't appear in chunks like that.

04-09-2011, 02:19 PM
dude this is awesome. i really like the color in you pictures, and the pokemon stuff is awesome!! the one with red and pikachu made me lulz

04-09-2011, 06:20 PM

04-09-2011, 07:17 PM

a)Practice b)Tablet c)MOAR PRACTICE.

04-09-2011, 10:30 PM
..........:cat_exasperated::cat_noes:....thanks... ......

04-16-2011, 06:20 PM
SuperKasey: Thank you xD I've been drawing a lot! Yeah, colouring in general is my weakness, so no wonder the tail looks strange. I'll look into the lineart/how to draw a tail as well

sanny1064: Lol XD Thanks!

So here is the basic coloured version of the trainer with his snivy. Sorry that it took so long (to get to this stage). School and shit DX

04-18-2011, 06:32 AM
Great so far! Love the different shades of blue and gray.

05-25-2011, 03:26 PM
Gedeon: Thanks dude!

So, I haven't posted in a long time. I haven't been lazy, ok I was lazy. Too lazy to post.
I've been working using Drawing on the right side of the brain. Best investment I've done in a long time.
I think i've improved in a lot of areas, but I still have one weakspot (hopefully the book will help me get rid of it): Shading and lightning DX

07-11-2011, 09:54 PM
"...But, Son44 wasn't dead"

Ok, so I'm back. (actually I haven't been gone either. I've been too lazy to post)

I bought "The last window: Secret of Cape West " a couple of days ago, but I haven't started playing (I gotta finish a couple of other games first). So I decided to draw Kyle Hyde "Before" (Hotel Dusk outfit) and after I finish Last Window. I tried as hard as I could to emulate the games distictiv art style.
I also made an "ingame portrait" of hyde, using PS.

07-12-2011, 01:36 AM
SHEESH. When the heck did you improve so much? HOW DO YOU KEEP DOING THIS?? I love his expression and the way he's writing his notes. Is he a new OC? o: Oh, and what's the deal with the animated shading? Any particular reason? As for critique, the only thing I can really think of is that his hands are rather on the small side.

Btw, some of those still lives and hand drawings are awesome. Also, I have that lamp, lol. Or I did until last week. Isn't it supposed to have a little handle thing just under the glass? And an extension cord?

07-12-2011, 07:21 AM

First paragraph - Read the top of the original post. Also, yeah. His hands are maybe a bit small.
Hm... My lamp is rather old, so I don't there was a smaller handle there. I think i drew in the extention cord, but it got lost in all the shading DX

Also, thanks!

07-12-2011, 01:48 PM
I'm... not... sure how I missed that entire paragraph... ಠ _ ಠ Sorry.
Guess I was just too busy ogling your art. :}

One thing I forgot to mention: Those drawing from life pictures could use more a bit more value, so things like the extension cord don't get quite so lost, and to make the drawings seem a bit more three-dimensional.

07-13-2011, 01:26 AM
nice going son goku! your skills are becoming that of a super sayan! xD
that's all i want to say but this is the critique corner so i would be spamming if i won't crit
so here

the placement of the nose is a little bit dislocated for me.. just to me though
in quarter view the line of center of the face should be bent to the side just a little bit.. and shouldn't be completely align with the chin vertically.. just for me though

08-14-2011, 08:23 PM
indescribable: Thanks. Sorry for the late reply, but I've listened to the advice and I've been trying to improve shading XD

ramiel: Thanks. I've sort of lost the will to finish the picture, but thanks anyway!

So, I'm not dead. My computer monitor went nuts a while ago and started making buzzing sounds everytime i started it up. Turns a part of the isolation on the pluginboard had melted away. I sent the monitor back to the store where I bought it and they're currently reparing it. So I can't acces the printer/scanner. I have been drawing, but traditonally.

Here is a drawing I did digitaly earlier today.

Hitler started out as a quick sketch, but I just continued drawing and decided to practice some crosshatching as well.
I've always thought of him as an interesting character in history .

08-15-2011, 08:10 AM
Awesome portrait Son!!! But i think somethings a bit wrong with the nose. Other then that amazing portrait. Oh and i gotta ask why is he so interesting to you?( just curious)

08-15-2011, 08:34 AM
Awesome portrait Son!!! But i think somethings a bit wrong with the nose. Other then that amazing portrait. Oh and i gotta ask why is he so interesting to you?( just curious)

I think he's interesting mainly because of his impact on history, personality and leadership technique. Oh and thanks!

08-21-2011, 03:04 AM
Wow, that is really good actually. :O How long did it take?

08-28-2011, 04:31 PM
Wow, that is really good actually. :O How long did it take?

Oh, sorry for the late reply. About 1-2 hours I think. Multitasking ftw(Yes, men can actually multitask)

08-29-2011, 01:34 PM

08-29-2011, 03:57 PM
Finally I can upload my stuff. My monitor was at the repair work shop for a whole month <_<
I'm almost finished with "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". I have to say I'm pleased with my progress XD
It only took me 4 months~~

A drawing I did before I started on the lessons. Timed it to around 30 minutes

A practice drawing I did as a part of a "lesson" in the book. Famous picture.

4 Months later. Head is a bit big though. 30 mintues-ish

Did this the same day. Took me around 2-3 hours.

Same day as the two above. Had a lot of fun playing around with the lightning. My head hurt a bit afterwards, though

Drawing I did a two weeks ago. Just recently moved into my apartment~~

09-05-2011, 04:35 AM
SAAAAWN. DUUUDE. Seeing all this awesome progress from you makes me want to start the book. I have a PDF of it, but I haven't done any lessons yet.

The one you did on 10.8.11 is just awesome. And only three hours? You are a speed machine! I did a rough sketch in three hours, NO SHADING. OTL

09-07-2011, 08:06 PM
You have a little bit of trouble drawing noses but apart from that your drawings are awesome

09-16-2011, 05:51 PM
CF: You should buy the book. It's really awesome and I think you'll get more out of it if you have the book in real life (looking at a scanned page of a book is sort of tiering). Wow, I've always thought of myself as a slow artist.

Leannah: Yeah, I have some problems with noses. Oh and thanks

Soeiasjldbnl andlASNULGBFL!! I promised myself to draw and write more.....
Oh well. I'm starting up (again) with a quick drawing of an anthropomorphic DS

09-16-2011, 07:54 PM
Very cute, indeed. I know you just did this as a quick sketch, but I think it would be better if the arms and legs were not quite so stick-like. It might even look nice if the arms started closer to the hinge.

I think you should turn this into an actual drawing, even if just simple pencil line art. x)

09-16-2011, 07:58 PM
Tay: Yeah, maybe I should xD Thanks!

So here is a sketch I'm working on

09-17-2011, 05:30 PM
Saaaawn, lookin' good! The hips look like they might be a little too wide, but other than that, I think everything looks great! She's got a nice face. :3

09-17-2011, 06:56 PM
^NOOOOO!! Girls with hips are gooooood!!!! D:< I kid i kid, well since its a sketch i can't say anything yet it looks fine. Post the wip so that i might aid you in some way.

10-21-2011, 04:42 AM
CF - Thanks 8D I've changed the hip, a bit

Gedeon- here ya go

So I haven't posted here in a while, but I haven't stopped drawing. Here are some WIPs

11-21-2011, 08:11 AM
ARgh, It's been too longe since I've updated my folder at mt.
Been playing too much TF2 lately, so here is a pic of the spy. I'm working on more "realism" pictures and colour pics.

11-22-2011, 06:17 PM
Doubble post

This was supposed to be a really quick sketch of Hugh Laurie (House), but it ended up taking roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes (and I was suppose to go to bed an hour ago xD). It has a lot of errors compared to the original (Head isn't tilted, eyes are a bit off and the shape of the head is a bit off) :

Please give me some critic! I probably won't change this picture, but I will remember the feedback i get when I draw other drawings.

11-22-2011, 06:51 PM
do Naked Snake realistic style

11-22-2011, 08:46 PM
Sly you perv!!!

Son pretty good son. You know son, i think Hugh has more wrinkles on its face son. Also son it looks like his face is straight forward, but son the ears are telling a diffrient story. they are a bit higher then they should be. :D nice one son!!!

11-23-2011, 03:10 AM

Did you check the source image I sent? The angle is actually from above, a bit xD Anyway, thanks

11-23-2011, 03:55 AM
He looks all sad and mopey. Like he's apologising.
And that is totally not House.

11-23-2011, 07:20 AM
He looks all sad and mopey. Like he's apologising.
And that is totally not House.

Look up the original (I posted it in the original post) And yeah, he doesn't exactly look like "THE" house

11-24-2011, 06:50 PM
Doubblepost (Cuz I'm a lazy bastard)
Spent 3 hours drawing Winston Churchill. First on Nikos Paintchat and finally in SAI. The Paintchat bugged out so I had to screencap. I used ref , but the image quality was really shitty, so I couldn't detail the suit as much as I wanted to.

11-24-2011, 07:33 PM
oAo!!! The high contrast shading style is suuuper cool. And I love the texture on his face. ;__; I need to do this.

11-24-2011, 08:52 PM
oh wow son you are good at making portraits!

11-25-2011, 05:33 PM
Celestial-Fox: DO EEEEEET!!

Cloudy-Chan: It's what I've practiced on for a while xD Thanks.

I'll try to do some more upperbody portraits from now on. I'll draw something tomorrow or maybe today

12-13-2011, 08:37 AM
Just a random girl I drew *shamelessly keeping his thread a float*

Critic would be fine, because I'm going to finish it

12-13-2011, 07:53 PM
Feet higher then the bum, (maybe) bigger ears and somehow i think his/her left eye is ......wonky. Gotta say i like your portraits much better (no im not a jerk.......all the time)

12-14-2011, 12:55 PM
Looks pretty good for a start. You may have already noticed some of what I'll be pointing out but just in case... You've got some wonky perspective going on with the legs. A quick fix would be to just lower the knee on the back leg a little bit and have the feet be at the same height but the rear foot a little further forward - basically embrace the fact that she's turned a little towards us. With the short hair, small breasts, and the narrow eyes she does look tomboyish. Some girly clothes and more obvious eye lashes will go a long way to make her gender a little more obvious. The angle of the collar bone on her left shoulder seems a bit off as well, but that should be an easy fix.

Hope this helps a little.

12-18-2011, 08:56 AM
Gedeon: lol, YOU JERK!!

Nisaren: Ok, thanks for the critic 8D I'll start working on it right away. And yeah, I should make the gender more clear XD

12-18-2011, 05:22 PM
I will agree with ged that the eye closest to us looks wonky. Its going up at an angle when it should be slanted just a tad down from a flat straight line. i think the mouth is a bit off to but its slanted to low. looks good tho.

01-08-2012, 09:18 AM
Psy: Thanks dude! Only problem is that I've lost the picture DX I forgot to put it on my backupdriver before my pc crashed.

So, here's an update. I've finally gotten back into the habit of drawing, for the time being! Yes, I know I've written it a lot of times before XD

Three of these wer done on GB today/yesterday. The first and last were done in SAI. The last one is also just a re-drawing of the one i did on GB

I'll colour this one

01-08-2012, 05:56 PM
fff loving those sketches! especially the second girl

01-08-2012, 10:12 PM
I love the girl's sweatshirt!!! also the perspectives :)

01-16-2012, 11:48 AM
Cloudy: Thank you 8D
corastaur: Thanks! I've gotta work more on perspective, though.

Two drawings i did on GB. First one I just a sketch, while the second was sort of inspired by the drawing style in Watchmen.

01-16-2012, 12:58 PM
awesome detailing on the face in the last picture, dude, and I must say that that winston churchill drawing on the last page is epic.

01-17-2012, 07:47 PM
toast: Thank you, Toast! Looking back at the churchill picture I see a lot of mistakes DX

Here is an updated version of the anthro girl I drew above. I'm going to colour the drawing, so I need ciritic before i start

Edit: Another sketch I just did for a picture. I promised a while back to make a picture of Kyle Hyde after I finished "The Last window: The Secret of Cape West".

01-18-2012, 02:52 AM
amazing! cant wait for the finished version! been watching your art and some others here since the first day I joined

01-21-2012, 07:00 PM
andrtaker: Thanks dude! I really appriciate it!

So I "finished" the lioness-girl. I say "finished" because hopefully you'll give me some critic and I'll fix it

+ A sketch I did on GB

01-25-2012, 01:48 AM
Ooooo I like the lioness a lot!!! :cat_shiney: Sorry I don't really have a critique haha

02-07-2012, 05:13 PM
corastaur: lol, thanks. Wish you could've given me something xD

Stuff I did on GB:

02-07-2012, 05:42 PM
Great work as always, son.

02-07-2012, 10:10 PM
I really love that second to last one.

Its really good, reminds me of the manga-ka's style who drew Monster and 20th century boys.

02-08-2012, 11:24 AM
I'm giving you a gold star for the guy with the pipe :'D That just made my day.

02-09-2012, 05:16 PM
Liebe: Thanks a lot 8D

Joosh: Lol, fun fact is that i tried to draw a realistic girl, sort of xD

SuperKasey: Hehehe :P

Some old drawings I and some other gb sketches:

02-09-2012, 08:10 PM
Mein gott!!!! Supberb(I can never remember if the p comes first or the b does, lol) work, man! The expressions are awesome, and the shading is just down right cool. You're doing a supreme job.

02-09-2012, 11:30 PM
She does look realistic, the girl son was referring to.

And the girl in the first pic (of the guy and girl) looks p.cute! Considering how awesome your sketches are, I'm thinking you got lazy for the guy's hand in the 3rd picture?

Hey, could you clean up/ink your drawings? i bet they'd look more awesome! :)

02-10-2012, 12:26 AM
did u use a ref for that columbo pic?

02-29-2012, 04:49 PM
Liebe: Thanks!

saphira: Ah, ok. I still think she looks cartoony XD Also, the dude's hand in the 3rd picture was "outside" of GB. I didn't plan ahead.

Evil_Cake: Yeah, I used ref, but no direct sources. Just a collage of pictures I could find.

03-11-2012, 06:25 PM
Doubble post!

The American President - Barack Obama
Ref: http://lebanonspring.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/cool-barack-obama-smoking-lebanon-spring.jpg

His face should be more gaunt, me thinks. A little more ... haggard. His hair is also a bit too fluffy.

03-13-2012, 11:31 AM
REALLY love the lady with sunglasses in the first post on the page. I have to say although that .......it doesn't look a lot like Obama. ITs a pretty awesome drawing though :D

03-13-2012, 06:24 PM
Gedeon's right :) it is a pretty awesome drawing! The main things, to me, that make him look less like Obama are the lips and the nose. The lips in the picture seem to be more relaxed and in the picture it almost looks like he's smiling slightly. When I look at the original picture his lips seem to reach all the way to about the outside edge of his irises. Or rather the line of his mouth definitely does, but his lips really end at about the middle of his pupils. Do you see what I mean? The nose is a little bit harder for me to critique, but I think with the shadow the bridge of his nose seems to bulge out slightly. This makes the nose feel... wonky or off center(?). Also agree with Bacon that he could look more gaunt or hagard. Being the president is a tiring job :(

Regardless of all of that ^ it really does look awesome. I love the shading and his hair :) so well done!

03-15-2012, 05:24 PM
Bacon_Barbarian: Thanks for the feedback! I've fixed it now.

Gedeon: lol, yeah. After finishing this version, the old one is really off xD

corastaur:Thanks for the great critic. Yeah, I need to pay more attention to smaller details and proportions. Hopefully I've fixed it

03-15-2012, 07:28 PM
That's definitely a lot closer to Obama. Good job.

07-30-2012, 05:47 PM
So... I haven't posted here since March....
I haven't stopped drawing or anything, but I've been too lazy to post. Then again, I highly doubt most people give a fuck/ will give a fuck, so here we go:

Just finished "The Legend of Korra" so I decided to do a fan-art drawing.
It's WIP so give me all the critic you can give, MT!

Fixed a couple of things:

07-30-2012, 05:59 PM
Wow, that is looking great so far :D I hope you post it up once you finish it :) sorry that I can't provide more of a critique for you :(

07-30-2012, 07:14 PM
That looks really nice! I love her expression! I think the upper portion of the arm on the left is a little bit shorter than the upper portion of the arm on the right.

Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see it finished!

07-31-2012, 07:01 PM
That obama sketch is cool dude, I think you should work on cleaner crosshatching as well, because this shit is cool:

Okay now as for the korra drawing. Sometimes, when I'm drawing poses, I try and emulate the pose to make sure it makes sense. I tried to do it, and decided to take a photo:

now, what I want you to notice is how 1. The arm bends 2. The thighs dont lay totally flat on the ground. In fact they pointed up. Essentially, I think you just made the legs too short, and the arms too short, so I thought it'd be easier if you just had a reference xD

Another thing is that the facial features arent aligned. They should be lined up with the chin. Heres a really quick redline doodle of what I mean. Uh, don't trace this or anything, because its mostly just a guide <_< I should have draw the legs pointing up more, because shes leaning more

Hopefully this helps! If i didn't explain something well, plz ask

08-02-2012, 07:12 PM
Demonfyre: Thanks a lot! Hopefully you can help me next time xD

JJJorgie: Thanks! I've changed the arm. I think it should be better.

toast: Thanks a lot for the great feedback (here on MT and on Skype)! I've changed the body, head and pose, while using your picture as a reference. Hopefully it's good now.

So yeah, I've changed a couple of things. Only need some more critic before I start colouring!

08-08-2012, 07:26 AM
I don't see too many issues. Her right forearm seems a bit short I think and I think one hand might be smaller than the other.

-Scarlet :)

08-11-2012, 07:51 PM
ScarletHue: Thanks! I think I've corrected the arm.

So here is the colour WIP. Feedback needed.
I'm not sure how I should go one. Either add some contrasting colour in the shading, but if I do that I feel that I should add a bg. If i don't then it feels kinda flat :/
If you guys have any ideas, fire at will. God knows i could use em.

08-11-2012, 08:06 PM
Nice colouring :D I think that her top is lacking enough shading though, makes it appear rather flat particularily on the right side, you could probably add some more shading to indicate the right breast a bit more and possibly some more on the right arm around the bulge at the top of the upper arm where it casts a small shadow. Hope this helped :) its looking great :D

As for the background, I have nothing unfortunately. I'm useless with backgrounds you see :/

Prince of Angels
08-11-2012, 11:12 PM
Yes, time for me to leave some notes:

PoA's Notes: The only things I could find a first glance are: her face, it doesn't look feminine. Maybe because that's just me or her chin, I don't know. :/ And the right (her left) hand is in an awkward position. Maybe a little work on the folds too, but they are pretty good. What I found good was the colouring. Really good. :D Her outfit too, I like the fur pads? I don't know what to call it. :3 Good job. :D

08-12-2012, 12:21 AM
Ooo, this is looking really good! I guess the BG I'd probably pick if this were my picture would be ice, maybe (?)

Oh, and PoA, the face is pretty spot on with the actual character's (this is a fanart) :)

08-13-2012, 07:42 PM
Demonfyre: Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'll make the shadows more defined and some contrast as well.

Prince of Angels: How is her left hand in an akward position? Could you explain that in more details?. Oh and yeah, it's fan-art XD

JJJorgie: Hm, yeah. Maybe ice...

08-16-2012, 05:09 PM

So, I finally "finished" this picture. I'm thinking about adding a bg, but I'm not sure.
Still, I'm not totally sure on the colouring, so if there's anything else, please comment xD

08-19-2012, 05:25 AM
There are a lot of big areas where the color is pretty flat. If you try to work in some soft gradients in those it might help to create some extra volume. Don't be afraid to toss in some stronger levels either, especially where there should be occlusion shadows (stuff touch other stuff)

But all on all it seems to be a pretty true portrait to what little I saw of the new avatar series, good job.

08-27-2012, 03:32 PM
Rubisko: Thanks a lot for the feedback. Added more shades and it definitly made the picture more lively! Thanks again.

Edit: Changed a couple of things, thanks to demonfrye's critic. Hopefully it looks better.

08-27-2012, 03:45 PM
I still think you have her upper torso quite flat, you could have some more shading at her under arm, and also some shading up on the right shoulder. Other than that I think it looks great :D Korra is awesome :3

10-15-2012, 03:59 PM
A simple update (No, I'm not dead!)

A 25 min. doodle

10-15-2012, 04:24 PM
Very cute! I love the eyes!

10-15-2012, 04:25 PM
It is too awesome for my feeble brain :O

10-20-2012, 09:34 PM
JJJorgie & Demonfyre: Thanks a lot. I'm glad you liked it!

A rough painting. Probably going to tweak it/change it.

10-20-2012, 10:00 PM
That is looking good :) can't wait to see it once it is done!

10-21-2012, 07:42 AM
woah, nice colors! especially on the reflecting pool. i can see traces of sky reflection. i wish i could pick color like that. hehe

no crits sorry...

01-31-2013, 08:27 PM
So.... Here's what I've been doing for the last two months!

A self portrait:

Tried a new painting technique:

Random animegirl coloured:

Random guy:

Fanart of Billy Butcher from the comic "The Boys":

Doubble post!

A Quick painting i did of some old dude i found on a stockphotosite. I really need to improve my paintingstyle so I hope anyone can give me some advice on how to improve. I recon I have the basics down (shapes, colour theory).

02-05-2013, 06:07 PM
I think it looks pretty awesome so far :) I think you should work some more on using more values and relying less on line, I notice in some (not all) of your paintings that you use a lot of line to show off features which are better expressed using contrasts in shading, hope that is of help

02-06-2013, 05:40 PM
Dude im shit when it comes to painting but i know that cype ays to always practice with grayscale drawings to get better at painting and getting shapes without lines. On the last dude, i think his upper skull might be too big.

02-07-2013, 06:04 PM
Demonfyre & Gedeon: Thanks! I'll work on shapes and try using grayscale.

An anime piece I started on yesterday:

+ a new WIP

02-09-2013, 07:50 PM
The colours for the anime one are looking good, but something about the space between his left eye and his ear bothers me. I think it's just that, if you think about where his hairline is and how it grows in, there should be a little more hair at the side of his head -

02-12-2013, 11:50 AM
Gaff: Thanks! I've fixed it now.

+ Updated WIP

02-26-2013, 03:52 PM
Another WIP. The woman at the front is a possible version of a new character i've been working on.

02-27-2013, 04:40 PM
Did the grayscaling. Gonna finish it tomorrow!

02-28-2013, 01:09 AM
At first glance, the man in front's hands are too small and his arms are too thin. Also, the pose and his hair suggest the view is slightly from above, but his face is in a straightforward view. Try lowing his eyes and shortenting the height/length of the face. Also, make sure his eyes and eyes are the same size.

02-28-2013, 04:18 AM
JJJorgie: Yeah, about the hands... it's a girl! But yeah, the face, I'll change the eyes and the head. Thanks!

02-28-2013, 10:15 AM
Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! In that case, the shoulders are much too wide.

02-28-2013, 12:06 PM
Aaaaaand thats the coat... xD (Sounds like im making lame excuses... probably because it is!). Anyway! I'll try to make it a bit more baggy with colouring and such. Talking about the sun:

Using the grayscale technique I used on page 15.

02-28-2013, 03:36 PM
ohh this is looking great!! i like it very much, there is so much depth in this drawing, really amazing O:
as you already heard there were some comments on the shoulders, please let me explain more thoroughly ^^

this is your drawing, i've outlined the muscle structure as evident in your drawing.
this way you can see that the skeletal structure has very broad shoulders. you can also see the arms are quite thin, especially in comparison with the broad skeletal structure.

here i changed the shoulders to a more feminine structure. you can see i still kept the shoulders of the jacket model broad, as you wanted it since you said the jacket made the shoulders look large. however, the arms are positioned closer to the torso, since the shoulders are less broad. the skeletal structure always stays the same no matter what she's wearing.

here i drew a simple reference where you can see how the textile behaves at the shoulders. since the shoulders don't shape the jacket as it actually does like in your drawing, since they don't exactly touch the textile -because the jacket is broader than where the real shoulders end.

i hope this clears everything up? if any questions then please ask :3 i'm very curious as to how you're going to finish the picture :D

02-28-2013, 06:04 PM
Callesthe: Thanks a lot for the critic! I was about to post the finished version when I saw your feedback, so I changed the drawing, making the shoulders and the coat smaller. Hopefully this looks better.

The reason the BG is rushed is that I have to use this for school, tomorrow. Maybe I'll finish it in the future, but if so I need some help in painting BGs.

03-01-2013, 01:14 AM
wow this looks indeed a lot better!! a very nice drawing, i really love it a lot :D she looks much more feminine as well :3
your colours look quite nice, and if you want to work out the background i'll see if i can help, since bgs aren't my strongest point as well :c
