View Full Version : What's the deal with airline food

It actually isn't bad for a microwaved meal. Break some of those false generalisations people always throw out there (as if these ninjas have had caviar or some shit)

Delphinus

Caviar is a bit too salty for my tastes; frankly it's over-rated and the only reason it has such a reputation is because of the expense. And airline food is shit if you're used to eating restaurant food, which anyone who's flying business class probably is.

Considering the flights I ride are 30 bucks, I'd say the food is quite good.

I have only had proper airline food once and I could not finish it, mainly because I didn't like what was served.
I mainly take short flights so so I only ever get served a muffin and coffee.

I've also forgotten how to ride a bike.

Oh yeah they stopped serving peanuts on airlines, too. They give out pretzels now. :(

They really suck. Period. I know I'm probably sounding like it's one-sided, but it's an opinion. I've only been on a plane six times, and I threw away everything but the coffee...the coffee rules. If you're going on a flight anytime soon, I suggest packing some back-up food (if they let you) just in case the food is revolting.

I've never had the meal on an airplane because my flights have always had tons of layovers, but on the flight from basic to ait my group got a private plane. Some ladies with the mwr gave us each a bag lunch and a bag of snacks for the flight. It was the coolest thing ever, especially since none of us had gotten sweets or pop for like three months.

I liked the food in Korean Airlines and I hear the JAL has good food too. They're not all bad but I wouldn't buy what they serve on planes. It's a total rip-off.

Everything on planes are way to expensive. Last time I flew, I just brought a bag of M&M's. They were delicious if you were wondering.

Chinese airlines have yummy food - but it's uncool that first class gets a menu and economy get's a choice of "beef or pork" "chicken or fish"

indescribable
02-02-2011, 03:04 AM
All I ever got on an airplane was 4 soda crackers and a cup of water. Most times I didn't even get that.

Were you on Air Canada? Cos that would explain that.

Yeah, good puns man. This one time I entered ten puns into a pun contest hoping to win at least one, but no pun in ten did.

There is no deal on airline food, everything is a rip-off once you board the plane!

Either one is good. As is Bromato. As it happens, brotato came to mind first.

AirFrance serve very bad food on their planes. Last time they servered some strange french cheese the whole plain started to stink an I got sick...The food on Austrian Air is very nice. I like the cakes :D
BulgariaAir serve some basic sandwiches but it's fine ;)

Once, on KLM, they accidentally gave us the Jewish Kosher menu.

It was pretty much bread and an apple with some nuts.

A neutron gets on a plane and asks the stewardess, "What's the deal with airline food?" The stewardess replies, "For you, no charge."

Sylux

Wait I didn't know you had to pay for food on airlines.
._.

Rio
02-03-2011, 06:39 PM
It depends on the flight. If you're going on a very long flight, like NY to Asia, for instance, you will be served food for free (food = fish, chicken, or beef with veggies and dessert). If you're doing a short one hour to 3 hour flight, you will only be served peanuts and drinks for free. Anything else, and you will have to pay.

pajamajam
02-03-2011, 07:29 PM
I think it depends on the airline, too. Last time I flew with Delta it was like $4 for a can of pop, but Southwest and American gave it out for free.

Bacon_Barbarian
02-03-2011, 07:59 PM
^

Because Southwest rocks.

You know what? I miss Sky Bus. Dirt Cheap airline, but ... It had actual food you could buy on it. Sadly, the cheap-ass flights coupled with the expensive (GOOD) food didn't quite work as a buisness plan. It was funny, becuase we were suppose to flyback from my Grandpa's house, and we had Sky Bus tickets, and the airline, well, didn't exist. No ticket refunds. :P

I did have airline food on the way to and from Japan, and it was pretty damn tasty. (There was shrimp.)

Bacon, you've been to Japan?! Is it as awesome as most of us think it is? (By most of us, I'm making the wrong assumption and thinking that everyone thinks in similarity with me...and I think it's the best place on Earth, so is it?)

Racism: yes, xenophobia: yes, oppressing women: only as much as America. Japan is at least a democratic shithole with cool technology, and since choosing a country to live in is basically 'choose the flavour of crapfest'... yeah.

I've read that people there work more than usual with alot of overtime and feel unconfortable to leave the office first and also take less holidays. If that's soo I don't like it. People work too much in US too and heve less benefits and it's hard to me to get used to that - coming from a more social country.

@ClockHand, I don't know much about the Japanese. But I don't like to work too much. You have only one life and you should have some time to enjoy it with something other than work.

@jubeh, European are just more lazy because they have more job security and bigger holidays. Have you heard of the PIGS countries :) . EU press calls them PIGS (Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain) - and they draw them a as a lazy pig that only eats and do nothing. Because they have a big debpt and they say they live on the back of the other EU member states. Now they call them PIIGS with Irland and Great PIIGS - with UK(Great Britain) :D

Things that I hate about Japan?
1. It's a bad country to raise a daughter. Your daughter will lose his virginity in matter of years (perhaps at junior high or senior high school).
2. They waste so many food. TOO MANY even, makes me want to throw those Japanese to the middle of Africa.
3. Even when they claim themselves a country that truly care about humanity, they are one of the most difficult country to accept immigrants and foreigners. Talking about hypocrite...

BTW, why the "airline food" thread have changed into "country hate" thread?

Rio
02-06-2011, 08:22 PM
Because this is the Chatterbox and we can change the topic of conversation if we wanted to. :D

Speaking of airlines, I hate the fact that there are a lot more connecting flights now. I'm going to vacation later this year and overall, I have to take three connecting flights going back and forth; ie. I have to board 5 planes total. And this is just in the US! :\

Look, I'm pretty sure a girl doesn't normally have a penis, lol.

[EDIT - Rio; dude, no double posting. That's what the edit button is for.]
...and guys. The world sucks, life is a bitch, friends are assholes, people suck, the government is broken and you can't trust anyone. It's a fact of life in every single nation, no matter what gender you are or if you are in Japan, U.S. or Germany. Let's all have a big cry about that later.

Oh and to get things back on topic: Pretzels on an airline = Penis-Sweat on bread.
