I dig the title of this one.

My drummer just broke up with me and the rest of the band. I AM SO ANGRY AND SO UPSET ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

She didn't even do it face to face. Completely out of the blue.

I can totally relate to this title...

Gee that's gotta suck hardcore.

zizi
12-02-2010, 02:32 PM
It does suck hardcore. But we have a friend who's (actually a better) drummer who's said he'll fill in for gigs and things whilst we try and find a replacement.

Hayashida
12-02-2010, 02:33 PM
Why don't you use the dude as the drummer permanently?

did she give any reason even

I've always found rhythm instrumentalists (drums, bass) to be significantly more flakey than other kinds of players.

Hayashida
12-02-2010, 10:14 PM
I disagree. Drummers and bassists are usually the best guys. It's the lead guitarists and singers who are usually the problem, particularly when it comes to ego problems.

Ozzaharwood
12-02-2010, 10:17 PM
Yeah, especially Sebastian Bach.

Neil Peart is cool though.

Mr_Liebe
12-03-2010, 12:40 AM
Well, there is usually more focus on the Lead Guitarists and Vocalists.

jubeh

Drummers know that they are hard to come by and tend to be dicks around here. Since most live places won't let you play without one they can make demands and stuff. As for singers and guitarists, they are a dime a dozen so if they do have an ego they can hit the road.

Mr_Liebe
12-03-2010, 01:07 AM
Everyone wants to be the next Jimmy Hendrix, or Robert Plant or whatever.

zizi
12-03-2010, 05:50 AM
Yeah, in my experience drummers and bassists are in more demand, so tend to be able to get away with being dickier than vocalists or guitarists. Except for me, because I don't know any other singers who have my range and power, because I'm a trained opera singer. Living in buttfuck, nowhere we have a really tiny pool of really good musicians.

No, she didn't give any reason, or even any indication.

I would love to use Sam perminatly, but he's in like, three other bands already. As I said, drummers are in serious demand here.

But overall, I'd say guitarists and vocalists can have mega egos, because we tend to be the ones in the spotlight and stuff.

Hayashida
12-03-2010, 03:19 PM
Yeah, that's true. I didn't really think about it in terms of availability of those musicians.

Mr_Liebe
12-03-2010, 08:48 PM
I gave up on trying to start one, and started trying to get into one.

12-07-2010, 03:07 PM
Hmm.. if you play, list the songs you can play yeah?

Polly - Nirvana
Vampires of New York - Marcy's Playground
One Headlight - The Wallflowers
Ancient Walls of Flowers - Marcy's Playground
Push - Matchbox Twenty
Hey there Delilah - Plain White T's
Purple Haze - Jimmi Hindrex
The Bards Song - Blind Guardian gtr pt 1
Phantom of the Opera - Iced Earth gtr pt 1
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - The Beatles

Annd I think that's all.. I can play some bits and pieces of most major metallica songs, some pantera, slayer, ozzy, and who knows what else. I've had a guitar for as long as I can remember, just never took it seriously till earlier this year. Most of those songs, are just me strumming the accoustic singing horribly too XD

jubeh
12-07-2010, 04:47 PM
I only know one song.

Wonderwall - Oasis

Hayashida
12-07-2010, 06:34 PM
Man that is so crazy because I also only know how to play that song.

Egoslip
12-07-2010, 07:04 PM
Hmm.. i can play that song if I have the chords and lyrics.. but it's not committed to memory..

Ozzaharwood
12-07-2010, 07:59 PM
I can only drum and somewhat sing and I'm not professional at either...

jubeh
12-08-2010, 06:32 PM
John is that something you wrote?

Hayashida
12-09-2010, 08:03 PM
Yeah I wrote it a while ago. I posted it in the old forum but I can't remember if you saw it or not. Actually, your question answers that.

jubeh
12-09-2010, 11:39 PM
Dunno how I missed that.

Hayashida
12-10-2010, 04:17 PM
U wanna put some lyrics over it? Cuz it's been like three years since we started this album man.

jubeh
12-10-2010, 05:12 PM
I guess

Hayashida
12-10-2010, 05:30 PM
Okay go at it. FULL FORCE

Egoslip
12-10-2010, 08:52 PM
@hayashida- Sounds great man.. nice and mellow. I usually start with lyrics and go from there.. but then again, it's just me and an accoustic XD I'd love to start a band, but I can't find anyone dedicated enough. I had a roster lined up, but then the drummer ran off to another state.. and my bassist and lead guitarist disappeared..

Hayashida
12-10-2010, 08:55 PM
Thanks brah. Jubeh needs to move here so that we can start a band up and change the world. and then mars.

Egoslip
12-10-2010, 09:21 PM
dude,I would so do vocals for you guys.. I'm not the best, but i got my own sound you know...

Hayashida
12-11-2010, 12:50 PM
Well Jubeh already does the vocals but thanks man.

Hayashida
12-12-2010, 02:56 PM

Hayashida
12-13-2010, 03:24 PM
thanks brah. What we should do is make some music videos once we get some more songs done.

Hayashida
12-14-2010, 05:02 PM
Is it a big deal that I double post so much in this thread? prolly not.
anyway here's how that Nine Inch Nails song "The Hand That Feeds" would sound if I helped write it.

Hayashida

I'm saving new stuff for when Rio changes to the new new forum this weekend cuz she's closing down the old site I think

jubeh
01-21-2011, 08:48 PM

Hayashida
01-22-2011, 02:25 PM

Thats cool man, I didn't know who that was on that song.

jubeh
01-22-2011, 02:33 PM
Tsol?

Hayashida
01-22-2011, 02:34 PM
It's the album Rose Garden is on. It just came out last year I think.

jubeh
01-22-2011, 02:35 PM
Oh no I only have his first album.

Hayashida
01-22-2011, 02:36 PM
If you get some extra cash you should pick it up sometime. It's really good. Or you could listen to CBC radio 2. They play Shad a lot on there.

jubeh
01-22-2011, 02:47 PM
Is that a canadian station.

Hayashida
01-22-2011, 02:56 PM
Yeah but I think you can listen to it with Satellite radio and also over the internet.

So, RPM 2011 starts in two days. Anyone else here going for it?

We're working with some other people this time, so our sound is changing 'cuz of that. In order to make things less shitty I began looking into drum module software - stuff that runs on the computer and reads in my kit's MIDI input to produce a drum track.

As it turns out, BFD Drums was too slow and EZDrummer had no demo and thus no way for me to see if it would work or not - so I went with Addictive Drums, which is a VST plugin.

The setup actually works rather well - just a MIDI cord going from my set into our Lexicon Omega, and then Reaper loads the actual plugin.

There's really way too much reverb on this version, but here's a song we're working on - if nothing else the drums sound a lot less faketacular: Paranoia is Killing Me (http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/78828/%28Paranoia_is%29_Killing_Me).

Hayashida
01-29-2011, 01:49 AM
Well, James and I have been working on this album for almost three years now, and we've got like, one solid track. So probably not.

Hayashida
01-30-2011, 06:17 PM
So I made a new song. James if you want to solo or something over it at some point go right ahead.

jubeh

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 07:41 PM
Doublepost.
Um I came up with this riff thingy and it seems really familiar but I dunno. The chords are A, F#Maj7sus*, F#m, F#m7, D, E, E7, A, E, E7, Bm, E, E7, Bm, E, E7, A, Amaj7, D, F, A, Amaj7, D, F [repeat].

*Don't play F# on e for this chord. Play it like:
|----x---------------
|----2---------------
|----4---------------
|----3---------------
|----4---------------
|----x---------------

The last chord is also an A/E chord like this:
|-------0------------
|-------0------------
|-------6------------
|-------7------------
|-------7------------
|-------0------------

jubeh
02-07-2011, 08:01 PM
Hey man embed for yourlisten doesnt work.

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 08:04 PM
I was afraid of that, so that's why I included a link to the page just above it.

edit: I just realized the first bit of it are the same chords from the coffee scene song we did from a while ago

jubeh
02-07-2011, 08:14 PM
That sounds like just what I've been looking for but that tone is too strong.

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 08:22 PM
Do you want me to add any other parts? Cuz I'm working on it more at the moment. I've added another guitar track and staggered it to give it a stereo feel and it sounds good, so I'll show you that one first and then after that if you still want the tone lower I can do that.

jubeh
02-07-2011, 08:23 PM
There is just too much distortion can you tone it down

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 08:24 PM
yes

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 09:04 PM
Okay here's that song. Towards the end I thought it would be cool if we both did a solo so I did a thing for a few bars and then left the end for you. It's in F# btw so you can mess around with the blues scale if you wish.
http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/80214/february%207,%202011

edit: I think my headphones are too bassy because the levels while listening through my speakers sound kind of off.

jubeh
02-07-2011, 09:09 PM
That part after the intro sounds super Pillows. Anyway I can definitely work with this.

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 09:12 PM
Okay awesome. And I guess I've been influenced by the Pillows a lot then.

jubeh
02-07-2011, 09:18 PM
Yeah even your solo sounds super japanese

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 09:20 PM
I didn't know solos could be certain nationalities sort of

jubeh
02-07-2011, 09:23 PM
Yeah man either that or japanese people all play like pre-grunge 90's guitarists.

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 09:25 PM
I don't know which one I prefer I'd like to say I sound like

jubeh
02-07-2011, 11:07 PM
Lyrics are done going to record tomorrow maybe.

Hayashida
02-07-2011, 11:12 PM
Lookin forward to it

jubeh
02-08-2011, 03:17 PM
Hey john in order to download a song off youlisten apparently you have to do surveys or some dumb shit. Can you host it elsewhere or just email it to me.

Fabiafidus
02-08-2011, 04:35 PM
That seq sounds cheerish :D mind if i dl and play with the file a little?

Hayashida
02-08-2011, 05:33 PM
Yeah go for it.
James I sent you that Email.

Kinda a question out of the blue: Have you ever did your own music? Remixes, Original songs, etc.

Hayashida
02-09-2011, 03:24 PM
have I ever did my own music? What does that mean. Like have I ever written music? If that is the question, then yes. If you go back through this thread, you can find music that Jubeh and I have made and also music that the twins have made.

Fabiafidus
02-09-2011, 05:14 PM
I'm mainly DJ'ing, and im currently working on producing synthesizers, However, im kinda new to that.

I love trance the most. but basicly, i listen to everything once in the mood.

jubeh
02-09-2011, 05:38 PM
Cool video john did you film that yourself.

Also here is the song. Um I sound lame and I messed up on the solo but that was after like 400 takes so I was kind of frustrated. But at least it is a song now.

http://jubeh.tumblr.com/post/3205101915/wherein-i-have-an-embarrassing-voice

Edit: Also my tone is pretty shit. Yeah I'm going to redo all of that.

Nyarlathotep
02-09-2011, 06:24 PM
Video's cool - reminds me of a black metal music video, actually... minus, uh, the black metal :P

@Jubeh's song: Cool... vocals sound fine to me. I think the snare and bass of the drum beat could be a little louder, maybe - the hi-hat almost drowns it out. It picks up a bit in volume when the solo comes in, so that part sounds fine.

We got one of our songs for RPM recorded and the vocals tracked/etc - still could use some level adjustments and stuff, though: Dust In Our Dreams (http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/80248/Nyarlathotep_Dust_In_Our_Dreams_v2).

Apparently the air raid siren in the beginning sounds like the intro to a Beyonce song. I haven't confirmed this, but maybe it's something to avoid...?

jubeh
02-09-2011, 06:43 PM
The vocals are really drowned but that guitar tone is great.

Hayashida
02-09-2011, 07:39 PM
@James: Yeah I filmed that stuff. Also I like the lyrics and I like the way you're singing it. I feel like something should go in the part with the A, Amaj7 part. Also yeah like you said I'm not really diggin the tone of your guitar there but other than that it sounds awesome.
@Nyar: The song sounds awesome man. The vocals remind me of the way Glenn Danzig sings a little bit.

jubeh
02-09-2011, 10:21 PM
@James: Yeah I filmed that stuff. Also I like the lyrics and I like the way you're singing it. I feel like something should go in the part with the A, Amaj7 part. Also yeah like you said I'm not really diggin the tone of your guitar there but other than that it sounds awesome.

To be honest I think the song should just end after your solo since I pretty much hate soloing and my amp is pure shit.

Hayashida
02-09-2011, 10:23 PM
Okay I can chop it up. Can you send me the vocal track as well? I wanted to see how a bit of reverb on the vocals would sound.

jubeh
02-09-2011, 10:28 PM

I had mouth surgery a few years ago to get a tooth that was stuck in the middle of my mouth to gtfo back to where it was supposed to be...that sucked. Hydrogen peroxide twice a day with a syringe jammed up in the mouth wound... hopefully you don't have to do that part :P

Thanks for the comments, guys... progress is slow this year since we're working with some other people.. .turns out that makes shit harder.

We've been doing more recording/stuff for RPM 2011... here are some rough cuts of two songs:

Paranoia Is Killing Me (http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/82224/Paranois_Is_Killing_Me_v1) - done with the same guy we did Dust In Our Dreams with. Also, I misspelled the title of the song on YourListen...whee...

Crush The Resistance (http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/82225/Crush_The_Resistance_v1) - a '100% metal' song we did with another guy who we started playing with recently - ending is super badass. Vocals are me.

We have like, 4 songs left to record...fun times! I made up a schedule, though, and so far we're sticking to it.

OK so its been about 2 months since I've gotten my guitar. I've memorized all the strings, I can play a few songs and know only 2 chords. I'm teaching myself so I'm worried I'm going too slow.. Is there any good songs anyone of my level can play? I'm getting bored of the stuff in the book I have, which is classroom based.

There are a lot of Misfits songs that are like two or three chords, but they're all pretty fast. Maybe a good choice if you want to get faster...

We just finished our RPM 2011 album and set up a page where you can check out the whole thing... no download yet, I'll be setting that shit up later.

Nyarlathotep - Four (http://rtwebdev.info/four.html)

Check it out - the songs 'Edge of Space', 'What Is Mine', 'Just Another Day' and 'Lord Of The Skies' are the last four we recorded, so y'all haven't heard them before, if you've been listening to my links. 'What Is Mine' is really different from what we normally do, but it's pretty cool. The other guy we recorded it with came up with the cool acoustic part in the beginning.

Cool song... nice ambient intro. Fun story, trying to open that link crashed FF4 the first time around, so when my tabs loaded up again I had Pandora radio playing at the same time and the tempos matched up. I was a little confused as to why you were emulating Slayer's guitar tone...

Wrote a minimalist bass-n-drum jam tonight - Lamentation at the Solar Temple (http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/88874/Lamentation%20at%20the%20Solar%20Temple). Sort of sounds exactly like an Om song, but there you go.

Cool I like the effect on the bass. It kind of reminds me of music in Cromartie.

Also, I found a website called Indaba Music (clicky (http://www.indabamusic.com/)) and basically it lets you upload music, share it with a community, and you can even find other people to collaborate with and download song stems to to remixes and stuff. But most importantly, with it you can sell music on itunes. So James and the twins should check this out.

Trying to get the hang of songwriting, having difficulty. Attempted chorus of what would probably be some sort of pop song:

Down on your knees
Praise your new master
Do as I please
Or I'll cause disaster
I am that boy
The one you betrayed
I'll make you my toy
I'll make you afraid

Either through inexperience or something else, I can't see anything technically wrong with it, yet it seems incomplete.

Hayashida

Hellos guys!!! :D Its the retarded Serbian! I have a question! Since my little bro came to my house and completely ruined my guitars strings i need to ....erm sharpie...or something (in Serbian we say Nastimovati) the strings i think i got the first tone on the E string but i dont know what frets to press afterward! HELP!!!

jubeh
05-12-2011, 07:54 PM
Um so by first string you mean you toned the high E? If you got the low e its easy. A is the fifth fret on the e string.

Hayashida
05-12-2011, 10:40 PM
I'll go into a bit more depth with what James is saying. If you've got the correct note on the 6th string (The thickest string, closest to you when you're holding the guitar), the next string's tuning will be the same note as the note when played pressing the 5th fret down on the 6th string.
Observe this diagram:
e|---------------
B|---------------
G|---------------
D|---------------
A|----0----------
E|----5----------

When you're playing the 5th fret on the bottom string, the next string up should match the same tone when played open.
Just do this with all the strings to tune it properly. Take time to make sure the note is the same or else you will not tune it properly.
NOTE: The 2nd string should be tuned by pressing the 4th fret on the 3rd string, NOT THE 5th FRET.

Hopefully that helps. Or you know, you could google "online tuner" or something.

no it's not

it's like saying someone's writing reads like it was written by a storytelling machine

or like someone's artwork was just there for no reason and meant nothing and rendered everything in realism like a photograph

it's accusing you of being superficial and not putting your own personality into things through minor variances in a song

CypressDahlia
08-15-2011, 01:28 AM
I think it's pretty pretentious for someone to sit there and assume that of an artist. Mostly because there is no way to measure these things. Besides, I'm sure the artist has a better idea of how much "personality" he put into his own work than some third party.

Let me propose a hypothetical:

Say I wrote a song from scratch, entirely from my own mind. I had personally never heard anything like it. Yet, when I introduced it to the public, they pointed out that another song that sounds extremely similar already existed. Even though my song was entirely of my own conception, it could very well be considered "superficial" or "meaningless" because my personal tastes and personality just happened to coincide with someone else's. This is HIGHLY likely on a planet of nearly 7 billion.

Anyway, in order to make my song more "personal", I'd have to tweak it against the judgment of my personal tastes to appeal to some third party. Wouldn't that make it //less// personal? Because I'm tweaking my original vision just to convince someone else it has personality.

jubeh
08-15-2011, 01:33 AM
It's not something to be taken seriously imo. I take it a backwards compliment basically. They might as well say, "I have no way to criticize this that isn't abstract and misleading." To me that's a good thing.

Sylux
08-16-2011, 04:19 PM

Nah, live and let live. But to many men, calling them gay is almost always insulting..................=w=.................... .......and since Cake said that you need to put the tuba in your ass i tried to counter him with a gay joke....................=w=....................... .....

Criticize this (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/441900) if you have the chance, please. Not expecting as much of a response here as from Newgrounds, but it's worth a try with you guys since you're generally smarter than those dudes.

What is the time signature it seems all over the place or am I tripping

It's 4/4, but my amateur soundfonts make it seem like the instruments are dragging and some are faster than others... Oh, if you meant the end, then it was supposed to be ambiance, but I was told I should omit that part from the final opening song and just add the ambient loop to the game, and make it more interesting with jerks and scripted audio bytes of scary stuff going on. But not too much, the guy said, cuz then it would make it less special.

The dragging is really jarring to me.

I'll try to toughen up my soundfonts with Jaidongs. :D
Thanks for the crit, man!

Just got back from my didgeridoo tour of Scotland. Went decent. I don't think they fully grasped my style of playing it. They said it was lacking passion.

So I jokingly played wonderwall to a bunch of drunk people last night. It was hilarious because apparently one of their friends died and that was his favorite song so it became like the most depressing party ever.

thats sad but somehow kind of funny at the same time.

Cool squier guitar its like my first jag ho ho ho.

Writing some music for a shitty game Im making that sucks. Since I didnt want to deal with recording programs or mics I just used my headset and propped it up with the mouthpiece toward my amp so the quality sucks. Also almost all of this was improve so my playing also sucks.

This would be like some sort of desert theme. I played for a solid 3 minutes but there's only like 10 seconds here because the rest of it was awful and this gets the point across. It basically starts as this classic traveling song but kicks off into a chill jam and back again.

I thought about using this as the battle theme but it is clearly the best song ever written so idk anymore. Also the rhythm is so familiar Im sure Im ripping off some famous song.

I can totally picture myself in some sort of saloon with that desert song playing. Also the description made me lol so thats good.
and I like that main riff thing in the second song

So James, have you heard of Mister Heavenly

CypressDahlia

Desert song sounds like a lazy sunrise song.

Hayashida
09-12-2011, 01:09 AM
So I came up with a couple new things just now that sound pretty similar. I just put them in the same song and put a space between the two things. If you think you can work with either of them, just let me know, James.
http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/102682/Vermillions%20&%20Verspers
Also imo the second one sounds like something from a spaghetti western kind of which is cool.

jubeh
09-12-2011, 01:20 AM
The first one is really good and I can definitely do something with it. The second one sounds cool but it sounds more like something I'd use in a game as opposed to writing a song to.

Hayashida

okay I'll work on it more when I get a chance. If you can think of anything to add to it, let me know too.

Man I hate to say this but you and your brother made those guys you were playing with look like they had just been playing for a month or something. What I'm trying to say is, you and your brother were really good. I dig how you guys put the beatles in with all the metal too.

Whoa so rad. You guys kinda look bored but it looked like you were pretty cramped there. Tsath's voice has improved a lot.

Thanks guys! Actually the program was a once-a-week deal for a few months. Pretty good experience.

Hayashida: The Beatles song was a pick of the bassist, who was basically not into metal but apparently was okay with all the rest of the songs we picked :P
