Hayashida
02-19-2012, 02:39 PM
It's a nice looking guitar. How much is it?

jubeh
02-19-2012, 03:04 PM
300 bucks. Actually its not even available til march so idk anymore.

Edit: Ended up ordering a cheapo agile in the mean time.

Hayashida
02-20-2012, 12:38 AM

jubeh
02-20-2012, 12:59 AM

Bacon_Barbarian
02-26-2012, 01:57 AM
Why didn't I think of that. I've been using Maracas.

Nyarlathotep
02-27-2012, 07:03 PM
@Bacon: My first suggestion would be to get a metronome and learn to play to a click - Rock Band will give you some experience with this, actually, so that's kind of nice.

On the web, there's about a million different options - http://www.metronomeonline.com/ is the first Google hit, but there's plenty more.

As far as actually playing goes, the key is to have a good grip and relax as much as possible.

Hayashida

I think Tokyo Tower sounds nice.

As far as actually playing goes, the key is to have a good grip and relax as much as possible.

Do you play the drums?

Nyarlathotep
02-28-2012, 11:33 PM
Yeah, four years now.

jubeh
02-28-2012, 11:57 PM
Okay the guitar I got was p buzzy on the e string. After some adjustments it now only buzzes when I play an A on the e string.

But I mean why would I ever need that note I'll just never ever use it.

This is me right now

The Agile 2000 is actually a really nice guitar. Tsathoggua has a silverburst one that's stood up pretty well.

jubeh
02-29-2012, 01:31 AM
Yeah aside from the buzziness its rad as hell for the price. Now Im trying to look at an amp.

Hayashida
02-29-2012, 12:08 PM
I saw a really cheapo traynor amp at a music store around here for like 66 bucks. It's pretty basic tho

jubeh

Tsathoggua and I did another session of Rock School over the last few weeks... our show was on the 11th and the YouTube videos are finally up.

This is the last song we did: Mr. Crowley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=023VNbdOOX0&list=UU5QPi5qJMt1eddfTceKpujA&index=15&feature=plcp)- the other 5 songs we played should show up on the bottom thingy, I think.

We managed to convince our mom to play the organ intro to the song, which sounded pretty badass :P

jubeh
04-01-2012, 09:41 PM
Thats cool but you guys have like no energy. The dude in the red jacket looked like he was barely able to keep his balance or something.

Cool solo tho.

Nyarlathotep
04-03-2012, 12:19 AM
Yeah, I know what you mean... Rob was doing decently, I think, but everyone else was pretty dead in the water. 'Red Shirt Guy' is the instructor for the program so he had a lot to do, I suppose.

jubeh
04-13-2012, 03:33 PM
how do you make music i dont get this

Open up one of the songs that comes with it. You have to make instruments and then you can record them in the actual tracker.

Hayashida
04-13-2012, 04:07 PM

jubeh
04-13-2012, 04:09 PM
Yeah its awesome.

Btw can you make me something similar to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYfgpodCVHE

But obviously not exactly the same. Also using only 2 square wave tracks, one triangle, and one noise.

Hayashida
04-13-2012, 04:13 PM

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM MEEEE

jubeh
05-23-2012, 02:15 AM
I just want something with one guitar -- drop all the layers of shit. One guitar at a time. No keyboard, or synth or anything like that. Do something cool with the guitar. Mess with effects. I want to hear something I haven't heard before. If it's 4/4 with bar chords Im gonna poop on it.

Delphinus

Okay guys, learning guitar and I have a music theory question. How do the particular notes in, say, a G chord combine to make it a G rather than a G minor or E or whatever? The notes in your standard beginner G chord (the only one I know, lol) are G, B, D, G, B, G - why does that make a G?

Other chords confuse me even more. How do C, E, G, C, E make a C? How do E, C, E, A sharp, B, and E make an E chord, and why does it make E minor instead if the A sharp is substituted for G?

I suspect there's a simple answer, but I haven't been able to find one through quick googling.

Hayashida
07-02-2012, 05:26 PM
The notes in a chord come from the scale of the note of the chord you're playing. Like a G chord comes from the notes of a G Major scale. A G minor chord comes from the G minor scale. The chords are based on the sound starting from the base note of the chord. If you start with a C note, the notes that follow after to make a C major chord are E and G. If you change the E to an E minor, it becomes a C minor chord because of the sound of it. Idk if that answers what you're asking.

jubeh
07-02-2012, 05:28 PM
Um a chord is constructed of notes from the same scale and its different depending on the chord and scale.

A G major chord is G B D which is the first, third, and fifth notes of the g major scale right. The extra G B D you play are just the same notes in different octaves so they sound nice together.

So for C its the same situation.

For minor chords its actually based on the position of the note in the scale. Chords built starting on the first, fourth and fifth notes of the scale are always major. Chords built starting on the second, third and sixth notes of the scale are always minor.

Uh for E minor do you know about relative minors.

Edit: john u suck

Hayashida
07-02-2012, 05:32 PM
y do i suck

jubeh
07-02-2012, 05:35 PM
Its not called a base note its a root note if you say base it sounds like bass.

Hayashida

Delphinus
07-02-2012, 05:42 PM
Okay, I half understand your explanations but bear in mind I have as much music training as a small monkey. What exactly is a scale for a note and how do you go about working out which notes are in a scale for a particular root note? Or is it just memorisation?

EDIT: I mean I know a scale is just a collection of notes I'm not that terrible

jubeh
07-02-2012, 05:47 PM
All chords are based on their major diatonic scale.

Edit: This guide is really good

This is starting to make me think I should just get music theory for dummies or something

jubeh
07-02-2012, 05:52 PM
Listen at ur level just find out what chords are in the key you are playing in and then go to town

Delphinus
07-02-2012, 05:58 PM
Man I don't just want to learn the instrument I want to understand how it all fits together and why Stairway to Heaven sounds rad and some dude hitting a guitar with a rock sounds shit

Because really learning to play the guitar would be a matter of dexterity, muscle memory, and accumulating techniques, like any other instrument but music theory lets you compose and rework and all the really cool stuff

Delphinus
07-02-2012, 08:02 PM
Okay Jubeh I realised why I was confused about intervals even though they're simple. I didn't know there wasn't a flat/sharp between E/F and B/C. Working out major and minor scales is actually easy from internet information I was just missing that vital piece of the puzzle

Hayashida
07-02-2012, 08:07 PM
what an hilarious misunderstanding

jubeh
07-04-2012, 08:54 PM
Ok after listening to be my kettle I'm convinced the kettles are fucking amazing. This album is so good this band is so good what's going on here. The way their voices sound together is impossible like a one in a million match up.

Hayashida
07-04-2012, 11:38 PM
yeah, it's a great album and they're too good. If I can find their second one I'll let you know.

Hayashida
07-08-2012, 03:22 AM

Hayashida
07-11-2012, 12:33 AM
ok ill try to write something like that

Delphinus
07-11-2012, 10:23 AM
Hey is having my 3rd or 1st finger on the 4th string better for playing A major? 1st is kinda easier but 3rd makes it easier to switch to E and Am.

Likewise for G - should I use my 3rd instead of 2nd finger on the 6th string? It makes that chord harder but switching chords easier.

Hayashida
07-11-2012, 01:45 PM
For A it should be your third finger, and I use my third finger on the sixth string for an open G chord.

jubeh
07-11-2012, 09:03 PM
Thats now noobs play a g

Hayashida
07-12-2012, 03:04 PM
what

jubeh
07-16-2012, 02:37 PM
James I made a new song

http://soundcloud.com/hayashida/yellow

Couldnt do anything with this after all couldnt find a melody that suited my voice

Hayashida
07-16-2012, 02:42 PM
okay I'll keep working

jubeh
07-16-2012, 02:47 PM
I can't sing over like the same note being repeated over and over again because my voice isn't really dynamic so more chord changes would help. Also generally faster stuff.

Hayashida
07-16-2012, 02:48 PM
how many bpm approximately were you thinking of

jubeh
07-16-2012, 02:50 PM
Idk but if its too slow I have to like actually sing you know what I mean

Hayashida
07-16-2012, 02:56 PM
uh right

jubeh
07-16-2012, 02:57 PM
ya if I have to sing then we have to write the song around my voice and thats a pain in da butt also singing sucks

Hayashida
07-16-2012, 03:13 PM
I started working on a song a couple days ago idk if you'll like it but let me know if I should continue with this or if I should just try to come up with something new

Changed my mind (http://soundcloud.com/jubeh/crazy-dog)

Guess we are the strokes now.

Also my mic quality is awful it sounds good in headphones tho.

Hayashida
07-16-2012, 08:39 PM
Cool. I'll make the song longer so you can actually sing without having to battle the guitar

Evil_Cake
07-16-2012, 08:43 PM
cool

Outcast
07-17-2012, 01:18 AM

jubeh
07-30-2012, 04:15 PM

Hayashida
07-30-2012, 04:15 PM

jubeh
07-30-2012, 04:19 PM
Yeah u seem busy

Hayashida
07-30-2012, 04:20 PM
I was just giving you an opportunity to say that you didn't ask for my present story

jubeh
07-30-2012, 04:23 PM
I was using the opportunity to give you shit for doing nothing ever

Hayashida
07-30-2012, 04:30 PM
I do things sometimes and anyway that's none of your concern

jubeh
07-30-2012, 04:30 PM

Hayashida
07-30-2012, 04:31 PM

jubeh

I've convinced myself this song is better than it actually is. I tried to a write a song that my younger self would have written and I also wanted to experiment with falsetto since I used to be not able to sing loudly in it but now I can somehow. Turn your volume up the quality is shit.

Hayashida
08-05-2012, 04:53 PM
I like that song. It's good. Also, okay, lets do a song like that one. And I can't figure out what to do with crazy dog. I don't know where to go from the one part, you know?

jubeh
08-05-2012, 05:05 PM
