View Full Version : Lady K's Sketch Corner - Taking 3 Requests!
01-20-2011, 06:37 AM
Hi all, I'm working on this for the moment, something cutesy that popped into my mind while I was at work *gasp*. Will work on it further when I find some time to. XD
C & C is most welcomed!
01-21-2011, 06:05 AM
Did some doodling / sketching during my break. I like how this one turned out but should fix the nose and the arms. Hmmm, the collar as well.
This need sprucing up digitally. C & C is most welcomed.
01-21-2011, 10:47 AM
I like the second one much more than the first. The eyes are great, but the face doesn't seem to have equal proportions. The left side is just a bit larger than the right side, and that throws it off a bit. The body is well-done, though I would like to see perhaps some thicker lines to show more form.
In the first drawing, it seems that the arms need some work. That kind of perspective is not easy, but the arms need to be smoothed out so that it ends up looking correct.
Despite some of my crit, the expressions are great on both drawings, so you should give yourself a pat on the back for those.
01-21-2011, 02:38 PM
I like the second one since it seems very much more refined than the first one; although, the first bunny sketch is pretty cute and suitable for a chibi kind of style.
But nonetheless keep up the good work.
01-22-2011, 12:08 PM
Hejin: Arms on the 1st one, face and lines on the 2nd. Got it! Thanks for the crit!
PWhit: Domo! Yea I was drawing it and wondering if I should chibitize it. Hmmm. Oh well. Mucho gracias for the crit!
Alright I've started outlining the 1st pic (1st come 1st work) This is about 1/2 an hour work but it's late and I'm tired. I need to get up early tomorrow morning so, I'm gonna leave you with my WIP so far.
01-22-2011, 12:34 PM
LADY KNIFE. I GIVE YOU 3 HURKS AND TWO SQUEALS FOR MOE.
01-24-2011, 12:44 AM
jaidurn: Thanks for the hurks and squels rating. ^_^ I have yet to revive my blood ratings. Lately there hasn't been enough to blood to go around. lol.
My progress thus far. I'm thinking of fixing her left bunny ear (her left, not our left) and her hair. The flow just don't seem right to me. I resized and relocated her boobs to a more normal-ish poportions. Her skirt doesn't seem right to me either, so I'm going to see some reference and get back to it.
All C & C are most welcomed.
01-24-2011, 01:00 AM
LADY K!...you disappeared the last few times lol. People with lives, psh. Anyway, wb.
As for the crit stuff. I'd say the right arm seems a bit off with the alignment of the hand, like it's bending, the left one seems just fine though. Same thing is going on with the right leg.
Everything else is looking nice though, I like how you're doing your lines, nice and bold but not too much.
...I barely even recognize your style after you poofed for so long lol.
01-24-2011, 04:00 AM
jeeeze such uniqueness. I might have to see if I can learn a thing or two from this XD. Perhaps the front flap of her garment looks abit flat. Dont know how you could fix that without shading though so maybe its not your fault.
01-24-2011, 09:09 AM
Very nice stuff so far. I really like the second picture you posted. I'm jealous of people that are able to draw clothes that way. For a while I had looked at the Bunny picture and something struck me as just being off a little. It wasn't until IllustrateMe mentioned the front flap that I really looked at it. The front flap of her dress looks like it's twisted on her. I think it would look much more natural to have the flap move further over to the right and have the three spirals on her right hip moved up higher. A lot of people (myself included) forget to consider perspective when it comes to their character's torso. When I get home later I can offer a redline for what I mean if it's not making sense.
01-24-2011, 05:34 PM
So, here's my attempt at a redline. I hope my point comes across with respect to the perspective of the character's torso.

These perspective lines assume that you were going for a symmetrical costume design. If you didn't... well that shoots most of this to hell. Regardless of the cut of the dress, her left breast (our right) needs to be moved up just a little bit.
01-25-2011, 12:26 AM
GunZet : Thanks! How are you doing? Hahah, yeah, ppl with lives. :P Alright, the arm and wrist looks kind of painful so yeah gotta have to fix that as well. Her right legt just don't seem to connect with her rear end as well I wanted so probably gonna fool around with that a bit and see what works.
IllustrateMe : Yeah I have thought about her front skirt and I am looking at some reference to find the one I'm aiming for. The thing is, silk brocade used for making cheong sam is rather stiff and not really silky slidy, so you really have to stretch it for it have some folds. I'm gonna put some kind of folds anyway and see if I can do it without shading. Thanks for the crit!
nisaren : I luff your redline. It's so simple I could wack myself for not seeing it. Yeah, the skirt has been bothering me quite a bit and am looking for reference at the moment. Most probably will change the design of the skirt to something nicer (got a light bulb just last night while I was looking through thousands of pics of cheong sam and mini skirts) so hope the next pic will fix it. Thank for taking time for redlining and criting. You have my grattitude.
On another note, a long long long time ago, I did redlining perspective crit as well. Which is why I should kick myself in the hiney for not seeing the perspective fail in my bunny girl.
So yeah, let it be a lesson to me! ;A; (But then again, it's only I was too lazy to put perspective into consideration to begin with.)
01-25-2011, 09:32 AM
Haha, after looking at your piece and realizing what was going on I went back to the piece that I'm currently working on and did the same thing and found a bunch of stuff off. XD Glad it helped :)
Methinks you should enter the next SaiMoe contest. :3
I have an issue with one of her arms. If I have time later today, I'll draw something quick. On another note: I don't think bunny ears should have edges unless it was made of cloth. I would round off anywhere the ears bended, personally.
Okay, here's what I think you should do with the arms:
01-26-2011, 12:03 PM
nisaren: Yeap it really did help make me rethink my basics. Thanks again!
Rio: (*poke poke* Woah, it's the Rio.)SaiMoe contest? Me? Really? But they're all seriously so good! Full on coloured and everything! (;A; ) Well, I'll promise to try my best in the next contest if there is to be one after this. ('A')
I have been thinking about the arms ever since GunZet pointed it out. Then I asked my sister to pose for me in a similar way and it's really difficult to pose like that without squeezing the boobs a bit unless you want your elbows sticking out like one is about to do the chicken dance. Well, back to the drawing board.
As for the ears, my sister once was costumed as a bunny for a party and she brought home these ears made from soft cloth and they were kind of pointy so I took my idea from that. Bug bunny is another reference I used. I like how her right bunny ear turned out but don't like her left bunny ear (remind me of a crab leg) so I'm gonna change that as well.
Thank you for your crit! You have my undying gratitude.
Again, thanks for all the crits and comments guys (or gals). While reading the C&Cs, it reminded me how important are the basics of basics, such as stick figures and perspectives. Also reminded me how out of practice I am (lol). But nothing like the new year to start afresh and hopefully with the help and inspiration of all you good people here, I'll be able to level up.
: pokes back : Yes, it's me! THE Rio. MiKuRu said there will be another SaiMOE contest so you'll get your chance to participate.
@ nisaren and Lady K
Mind if I use your image for a little quick tip tutorial on checking your artwork for mistakes? I think it'll help everyone out. C:
01-26-2011, 11:46 PM
@Rio I don't mind as long as Lady K doesn't.
I didn't even really think about the arms, I was so focused on the dress, lol.
01-27-2011, 12:45 AM
@Rio: It's alright with me as well. Go for it. ^_^
@nisaren: I didn't really think of it either, I was too focused on the cute. XD
01-27-2011, 02:50 AM
My only concern is,more hips Cx
Nice pic so far, hope to see it finish :D
01-27-2011, 11:22 AM
Iccy: Hey there my friend! How long has it been since I last seen ya? How are you doing?
Aaaaaaaaaannnnnnyway, thanks for the crit! Now with more hip power she looks more zexy than cute. Dunno if I should go for it, I mean, I want her like CNY post card cute, not CNY playboy cute. But I guess I can try to make a balance of both.
I see you still have your Iccilicious style (you and Cype, ah, both create art that are death-worthy) and its good to see you back in action again. Again, thanks for the crit, I'll take the eyes and hip into serious consideration. Take care man!
@ nisaren & Lady_K
Thanks! I'll write something up tomorrow. C:
01-28-2011, 03:47 PM
Ive been alright, just quit my day job xD. So yeah, back in my hometown now, hehe. I suppose you have a point there about it being more cute rather thean sexy, but I would still suggest a little bit more hips would look better C:. Good Luck with your postcard, if you got it print send me one ;D
And happy Chinese New year! :D
01-29-2011, 10:28 AM
Iccy: Woah, you quit? But you cut such a nice picture in that kind of job. (at least what I imagine you'd be cuz you know, I've never seen you at work.lol. What is the uniform like?) Was thinking of making it into a VIRTUAL greeting card and posting it on FB. No printing, sry. Plus, I wouldn't know what address to post it to. XD
Woah, with so much C&C I think I'll have to redo the whole thing over. Dunno if I can make it in time for CNY but hopefully I can.
Lately I've been reading and studying poses and what not and practicing a bit. Here's the result of some of them. Also some age + expression practice/doodles/sketchies.
* I apologize for the poor quality of the picture as my scanner is one giant piece of plastic metal thing that I have to lug out of my sister's room and my office scanner is in the office (duh) and since it's the weekend, the office is closed. So I used a camera and contrast/brightness adjusted it.
Update note. My entry to the OC Challenge. No C & C required for this one.
01-31-2011, 09:22 AM
I slipped, I fell, I sprained my ankle and now I am in great pain. Bunny girl is on hold until I am no longer in depths of agony.
Until then, this is a sketch I did before the CNY bunny girl but it looked too Easter/Christmas to me.
01-31-2011, 04:03 PM
uhm i think she has a extra vinger.. on her right hand.. but maybe that was supposed to be so
02-01-2011, 12:12 AM
Yeah you're right about that. Again, late night sketching plus tiredness does not help with counting...or concentration. I dunno why I drew an extra finger. Perhaps she's an alien.
03-29-2011, 01:54 AM
Something to keep the thread from dying.
Just a sketch from my sketch book. Some random thing I done about two months ago.
I clicked on this thread expecting . . . well, not cutesy stuff. But I was surprised. In a good way.
I have a tip on this picture, though:
The girl in the top left. To retain cuteness with the mouth wide like that, generally you bump the nose up and keep the face . . . well, decently short. Short faces are generally more "cute," while long faces are generally more "beautiful."
The latest picture, I really like the attention to detail, i.e. the folds and such. But I can sorta tell it's older. No time to say more now--sorry. My laptop's outta battery.
03-31-2011, 02:00 AM
Matt: Thanks for the C&C man. It's mucho appreciated. I admit I need more practice with expressions. There are a few exercises out there that I should probably look at when I got some time on my hands. With the SaiMoe contest coming up, I'm hoping to improve my lvl so PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. (I'm so lazy and busy at the same time...*sigh*)
I have some pending stuff I need to get done as well, a gypsy girl with a bird, the CNY bunny girl and a few more. But for now I need to concentrate on something for the SaiMoe contest. ^_^ GAMBATTE!
04-01-2011, 03:18 PM
Another random sketch I did a few months ago. I felt like focusing on details and go sot with it. Ignore the hand.
C&C is most welcomed. But I'm just gonna leave it as it is cuz it's only a sketch , not gonna finish it.
04-02-2011, 01:30 AM
really nice deisgn on th clothes and her face is really gorgeous, the only thing that bothers me is how you put the legs, I don't know...
04-02-2011, 09:13 AM
.....O.o.......you a clothes designer by any chance....?
04-02-2011, 09:37 AM
Aww, I like it! I don't have the patience usually to stick with a piece long enough to put all though details in like that, something I must practice. I do hope you finish one of these sometime.^^
04-03-2011, 07:18 AM
Nerdonoff: Yeah, I'm not too sure of the legs either. Oh well, it's a sketch now, better practice next time on the drawing board.
Gedeon: No, I'm not good enough to be a clothes designer. Do you know how much hard work those really talented people put in to make it in the world of fashion? It's mind boggling. I don't have what it takes to be a designer but it's a great compliment to know others think perhaps I do.
nisaren: Issit? I like details but tend to overdo it or tend to epic fail on details (not suitable to the overall pic or what not, etc) Perhaps I will take an old sketch and make it renew. Do you ever feel like the latest thing you did was wonderful and can't help but look at it again and again, until an hour later then you'd think, "crap, that's what this is. The anatomy is totally off, this part here looks stiff and the colouring is not right." That happens to me all the time. D:
Anyway, thanks to everyone for your lovely posts, I'm working on the SaiMoe pic and hoping it would be a sort of surprise so not posting anything up until the due date. Until then, cheers all!
************ ************ ************
Here's a sample of something I drew in 2004 and for a long time I was very proud of this piece. Now when I see this, all I can think of is, "what?". This is the the beginning when I starting drawing Josephine and Amy.
04-03-2011, 08:50 AM
Lookin' good LK! this blast from the past is quite fun.
04-03-2011, 01:03 PM
they look happy ;o
You've improved sooo muchhhh. oh goosh. ,
04-07-2011, 07:09 AM
Sparky: Thanks man! Its always fun to peek at the past. I'll email you that request soon enough once the dude decides on a pic.
erikamae: sweeeeeeeetie! How are you? I haven't see you in ages! You latest art looks real good btw.
*********** ***************** ****************
This SaiMoe contest thing is driving me nuts. I can't concentrate on work and just sketch and scribble all over my organizer. Gak! So I'm gonna take a small break by taking in REQUESTS! (cue maniacal laugh) Mwahahahaha!
So I'm taking 3 requests only:-
Rules: 1 char only. Pls provide a link or some kind of ref.
04-07-2011, 07:53 AM
Hmmm... I'll make a request then. Since no one else has jumped in line yet. :)
If you wouldn't mind I'd like you to draw my OC Erin. I've been drawing her more often of late so I have a few reference pics you can use. I don't have anything in particular I want in the picture so feel free to give her new clothes or whatever. Or you can use what I've had her wear.
Here's a few pictures for ref under the spoiler.
I'd like to make one too! Could you please draw my OC Akiria for me?
Race: Angel (halo not necessary--not in this case)
Hair: Long, light blond
Eyes: Sapphire blue
(You don't have to worry about color)
Height: 5 feet
Wingspan: 14 feet
She actually wears white. Black looks too gothic for me.
Sorry I can't provide all angles (front, back, sides). I haven't drawn her enough! She's pretty much the same all around. The wings might be a little troublesome. Sorry about that.
EDIT: Found a new pic for stock.
04-08-2011, 01:44 AM
Nisaren: Okie dokie. No problem! ^^
Mat: Got it. Do you her wearing the same dress or can I decorate her with another costume and jewels and knick knacks. She's sooo innocent looking.
****** ****** ****** ****** ******
One more slot left!
1. ERIN - OC by Nisaren
2. AKIRIA - OC by Matt
:cat_nosebleed:* Why do I picture Erin and Akiria making out? * :cat_ahahaha:
04-08-2011, 06:52 AM
OH ME ME!!!! would you mind drawing.... sigh i know an Oc again sorry.......anyways my oc Suzzy PLS also if you could figure out what to put on her to look sexy but not too reveling ill give you a cookie! I BELIVE IN YOUR DRESSING SKILLS!!!!
OH and i forgot she has a little marking on her right eye, but i have some refernces in my art thread so look it there.......heehee comercialism....
04-08-2011, 10:09 AM
Nisaren: Okie dokie. No problem! ^^
Matt: Got it. Do you want her wearing the same dress or can I decorate her with another costume and jewels and knick knacks. She's sooo innocent looking.
:cat_hmp: Gedeon: Alrighty! ^^

All the slots full! Now for me to have some fun. :cat_ahahaha:
1. ERIN - OC by Nisaren
2. AKIRIA - OC by Matt
3. SUZZY - OC by Gedeon
She's not really a jewelery-ish person, but feel free to make it fancy and cute and stuff. (Keep her innocent, though. Innocence = moe!)
04-08-2011, 01:38 PM
Matt: Got it, just asking. I like decorating angels. Dunno why though. XD

Erin - OC by Nisaren
Very nice! I love the hair and the eyes (and the overall cuteness).
Ah, but aren't the folds on the right side of her shirt unnecessary? Or am I just looking at it wrong? The longer I look, the more I think I'm perceiving it wrong.
04-09-2011, 02:01 AM
Matt: I draw a lot of un-necessary things really. :cat_ahahaha:
****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ******
Matt, your OC Akiria is on the way. I'm trying to figure out the best way for me to draw her.
04-09-2011, 05:33 AM
i just laughed my mouth off cuz of that not bananas note!:cat_ahahaha:
04-12-2011, 06:03 PM
I like your style. Nisaren's Oc looks very nicely done :D. As Matt said the Folds look a bit weird but overall its looking good specially the hair. Also I like how your trying to find a nice perfect pose for Matt's OC :D.
*Saves WIP to HD*
Man, you're thinking this through a lot more than I ever have. Also, the wings in every one of those sketches look beautiful--like, way beyond what I've ever done *steals designs*. I'm really looking forward to the final.
04-14-2011, 01:45 AM
Gedeon: Glad you had fun. I did too. lol.
Mikuru: Thanks for the comments!
Matt: At the moment I'm working on my 2nd SaiMoe pic and hope to make it in time for the submission. But not to worry, I take regular breaks to work on Akiria on pencil and paper. I like drawing angels but have difficulty with the wings and have to search for a lot of refrences. Maybe I'll show you some of the angels I drew a few years ago. They were not bad but not really good either. lol. Here's a small example of ONE of the pencils I did of Akiria that I'm thinking of converting it to digital.
This is what I mean by changing her clothes and putting a bit of jewellry/knick knacks on her. I've also got a few other cutsey dresses and stuff but I like seeing her in this style as well.

Working on the SaiMoe pic and since the Holy Week is coming up soon the catholic church I go to is keeping me busy busy busy. But no worries I still make time for sketching whenever I can! GAMBATTE!
04-14-2011, 07:34 AM
I love her inocent expression, she has a cute face :)
^Agreed. I think I might give her a hat officially. Maybe I just have a hat thing, but I really like it. (Hat thing started with Rena from Higurashi and Touhou)
Working on the SaiMoe pic and since the Holy Week is coming up soon the catholic church I go to is keeping me busy busy busy.
Yay, another religious person! With Seefy gone, I was getting kinda worried that I'd be the only one.
04-28-2011, 12:37 PM
Nerdonoff: Yeah I like that expression too. I think I'll keep it as the original request pic.
Matt: Hats are cute but I wonder if I should just take the hat off and do something else...hmmm...*sigh* I tend to overthink details cuz I want the pic to be nice. Ooo...you're catholic too? Ditto here. Just finished holy week. Happy easter! Yeah, I'm roman catholic but not always though, cuz up until when I was ten years old, I was buddhist and then mom started bringing me to church.
*** *** *** *** *** ***
I thought of a new idea for my 2nd SaiMoe character. (the other idea I shelved it as it was not moe enough) So will be working on that for a while. Just finished the rough sketch last nite. Tonite I was working on it until I took a break and did this quickie practice thinggi.
She's a ballerina...in case...well...you were wondering. I give credit to Nisaren for the BG tip since I really love how he puts some BG colours in most of his pics. Also I've been watching and reading up tutorials on colouring and line art so hopefully some improvement would show in my pics.
She does look really cute! Her arm, I think it's short, though. Wrist aligns with the crotch.
Religious talk ahead:
I'm not Catholic, I'm Protestant. I went to a friend's Catholic church once, and I honestly don't see differences worth all the dispute that goes on (between Catholics and Protestants). It's the same God, same Jesus.
04-28-2011, 04:16 PM
Ooh, I like this latest piece. It looks like you've changed how you draw eyes a little in this piece as well. I like it better. I hope you take the picture a little further. I think you could tighten up the dress a little more, particularly around the area where it transitions from the skin tight leotard to the skirt. Maybe you could have her pushing the front of the skirt down a little while the back continues to rise or something like that. That could work well with a blushing face. I think that would push the moe-ness up a notch.
04-29-2011, 01:54 AM
Matt: You're right about the arm, when I posted it, my sis and I noticed the knee should've been way shorter cuz of her arm - waist - thigh ratio. *shrug* oh well. It was a good practice sketch / colour. It's cool you're a protestant. I got a few pals who are the same as well and we all get along fine. You're right about that, there's not much difference.
Nisaren: Yeap, I changed the eyes a lot cuz of all the tutorials and youtube tutorials I've been watching /reading. At the moment I'm trying to learn how to use the pen tool properly for line art and to expand the variety of solid brushes I use for my colouring. It's a happy experimentation / practice and I feel like I'm getting back to the groove or hopefully even better than that. (or it could all be my imagination. lol)
05-04-2011, 04:09 PM
It's 3 am here and I'm exhausted. Just finished my 2nd SaiMoe entry. Dunno if it's moe enough but I'm pretty happy with this pic as I've done a lot of work on it. It's not perfect but it's a heck lot better than what I normally do.
Not enough time to draw extra expressions for Victoria but better an entry than none! ^_^
C&C are all welcomed.

Lovin' your colors LK!
05-06-2011, 06:26 AM
Sparky-J: Thanks man. I'm gonna work on it somemore though. Not really satisfied with the colours. Too dark! D: One thing I do like though is the wood texture I used on the grammophone (spellcheck).
On a totally different note, your avatar is hypnotizing in a freaky kind of way. I keep looking at it like how a deer stares at headlights.
05-06-2011, 07:35 AM
ahhhhh Lady-knife! You've gotten so amazing! (((: and and and and I think I might fan art your ballerina~ she's just lovely c:
p.s. o.o your colouring has really improved! , I love the phonograph in the back <3
05-06-2011, 08:19 AM
OAO i just realized that in the second piece the girl has some kind of retro head-phones! AWESOME OAO!!!!! Also you've got great color choices yada-yada beautiful line-art bla-bla great shading yada-yada ....and all that......no point saying what everybody else said :D
05-07-2011, 04:26 AM
erikamae : Sweeeeetie!!! *superglomperzillioushugs* Thanks for your comments~! I really did try hard on the last steampunk one. You're most welcome to fanart the ballerina! Again, thank you! And yes, I love how that phonograph / gramophone thing turned out.
Gedeon: Thanks for the confidence boost! I'm glad it you liked it. I might chaged the hair colour a tad bit though cuz the brown hair and the brown headphones just blend in together too much. Thanks again for your C&C. Btw, quick question, I'm about to continue on the requests and wondering what does your OC Suzzy have for powers? (I assumed she has powers.)
*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***
A friend asked me what's the steps I took for the steampunk SaiMoe piece so I decided to make a pic log of it. *Sorry for the large img*
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Sweet stuff! steampunk z3
05-07-2011, 07:55 PM
UUUUUUuuuuUUUUU! You want to draw her with her powers OWO thanks LadyK! Well since i cant come up with a normal story with at least a tad bit of realism =v=' yeah i gave her powers...CougheveryfreakinOChassomepowersCough.... .Anyways she can turn her hair into shadows and bind(shikamaru much.....-_- i know dont hate me, i came up with that before watched Naruto) or attack everything in the "Shadow realm" OAO so there i hope you have some fun with it :3 also good luck with that saimoe thing contest. Really like that steam-punk piece with those uber-cool retro earphones! OvO
05-10-2011, 01:49 AM
Fabiafidus: Thanks. Thinking I should jump into more steampunk study for a series of pics I'm thinking of doing. See how that pans out.
Gedeon: Ooooo, hmmm, does her hair become longer or shorter? Or just turn into shadows and become medusa style (you know, all wriggly and swirmy).
05-10-2011, 12:27 PM
Well i imagined it like this: Her hair grows longer then touches a shadow and to some point becomes a shadow. But the root of the hair is still normal hair. Sorry for being so picky since this is only a measly request that you aren't getting paid for ^-^' but since you asked i thought of sating how i thought of it. :D
06-03-2011, 11:15 AM
Gedeon: No probs! I am interested to see if I can draw powers. This is a good kind of practice for me.
*** *** *** *** *** ***
Matt: I wanted to do something like this as well for Akiria, but then it's less moe and more mystical. So I'm gonna scrap it and redo again. ^_^
It doesn't matter to me either way. I like both cuteness and mystical stuff and you still did the wings better than I've ever done!
06-04-2011, 11:51 AM
I seriously can't get my eyes away from your designs!!! O_O

Fabiafidus: Glad you like it. ^_^ I spend a lot of time thinking of the designs which is probably why it takes me so long to finish a pic. I really hate my indecisive nature sometimes.

Matt: Thank you for your generous words. I just finished and really enjoyed this piece. This time I cut out a bit of the messy feathering and lines. Its the first time I've used the pen tool to do a request cuz I think I need more practice with this tool. That's why the wings look very simplistic in this one. Hope you like it though. Cheers!
Matt's OC Akiria. C&C most welcomed.
Time: 6 hrs.
Program: Photoshop 7.0.
Equipment: Wacom Bamboo
Also a little skit on what I'm feeling regarding the SaiMoe contest voting going on right now.

Lol, that comic is great! XD
And I love what you did with Matt's OC. The dress is really cute and the wing design is really eye-catching.
06-05-2011, 09:53 AM
Nice! I love her wings :X
06-06-2011, 01:54 AM
Woah the little girl is so pretty with her wings. I like the robe too :D
Lol sweet seeing you here >uu< -hug-

..................O.O.....................OoO..... ..................XAX..........My reactions at watching Akira..........:D
Two things going through my head right now:
1. Third page thread, mods might get mad at me if I post now.
2. I WANNA REPLY 'CAUSE I MISSED MY FINISHED REQUEST!
It's drawings like that that re-inspire me and make me wanna be an artist for a living. That's just how awesome it is.

Celestial-Fox: Thanks! Glad that it made you grin at least. Now is another SaiMoe deadline. :cat_scared: Where have I been!?
andr3ytp: Domo arigatou! :cat_lol:
Tetsuphil: *huggles* It has been a while. How are you? Thanks for your C&C!
Gedeon: Your OC is coming, :cat_sweat: I promise! Just been so...tired. :cat_dead:
Matt: You're welcome sweetie! Super happy that you like it. Let's both work hard for the next SaiMoe contest. :cat_yahoo: (which I have yet to submit....:cat_cryincorner:)

I'm sure you all are wondering where I've been lately. (alter ego LK "No they don't!") Shhh! Quiet alter ego.
Anyway, I've been doing a lot of Church stuff and am very active in the youth activities now. I only get a breather every now and then.
Oh and I have a new job now :cat_secret: and it's real fancy and better benefits and.. (alter ego LK "Bla bla bla bla bla.") ^_^" :cat_sad:
Yeah, so please bear with me until next update. Thanks! :cat_shiney:

Leannah: Thank you! :)
Busy busy busy. Took a break and did Gedeon's (waaaaay overdue) request on his OC. Gedeon: I hope you like it! I wanted to make her look like a punk looking for a fight but the inner girlie in me won out.

Cloth design? Or clothes design? lol. Either way, you're welcome to use anything you see on the pic. Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it.
If you want to draw 1 of my oc, you're welcome to. Although at the moment, I only got 2 oc for you to choose from.
One is Josephine
The other is her sister, Amy.

Lady of the Pumpkin Patch
10-29-2011, 03:52 AM
:cat_shiney: she's so pretty/cool/awesome! I love the pumpkin leaves in her hair, it's so fitting!
10-31-2011, 12:12 PM
Heyz, been awhile. Such pretty art you have as usual :8
My crit for the last picture:
The ear seems to be out of place. Feels like it goes out of the head, not connected to anything. It could ber more connected to the jaw/face. However it does'nt look annoying, so it fits the style in a way.
Her left shoulder kinda bugs me too(the line that goes inward) But thats prolly the way you drew the bones near the neck :p anyway
But the rest looks fine :D
I hope it helps you somehow ^^
12-21-2011, 11:53 AM
Corastaur: Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. I made a mistake with 1 of the leaves but didn't notice it until I've posted it up. XD
Tetsuphil: How have you been? Happy holidays! Yeah I made about tons of anatomical errors with her but I was just mainly having fun with it and rushing to finish it off in time for halloween. Hahaha! Thanks for your C&C!

Sorry been MIA for a while. Was in Sigapore for a bit and got myself a couple of lovely digital painting / art books. Work has been a occupying my time lately so yeah. Meanwhile, I've been working with this piece for a while and it's still in WIP stage but I've kind of hit a wall and was hoping if any of you all have a suggestion.
I was to portray her leaning against something but what? A tree? A vine? A pillow? A cat? A cat pillow? Something that's within my powers to draw so pls don't say "It'd be awesome to draw her leaning against a macross like mecha humanoid hybrid!!! :D" That will not earn you a smiley face.
Originally this pic was suppose to be my entry with the last SaiMoe contest. Hahaha.
12-21-2011, 12:48 PM
I like the idea of a tree or vine, especially since she's already holding a branch in her hand :) Also I'm wondering where her other arm is... Other than that it looks really cool, I love her hair and the roses!
04-17-2012, 05:49 AM
corastaur: Thanks for your comment! Her other arm is behind her skirt! That's the story and I'm sticking to it! hahaha. Actually I'm really bad with hands and avoid drawing them if I can. Which is probably a bad thing but sometimes I can't help it. It will eventually appear I think...maybe? Hahaha. Anyway, thanks again!

Work strikes again! I'm so busy that I have little or no time to do anything else. Not to mention my 7yr old laptop freezes on me sometimes when I'm using Photoshop. *sigh* So I've been experimenting a lot on the iPad2. These are some of the sketches I've done on it with a Wacom Bamboo Stylus. Except for lack of pressure sensitivity, it's been pretty good to use. It can't beat a PC + Photoshop/Sai + Wacom tablet, but still, it's pretty good for a quick sketch.
1st Thing I ever did on SketchBook Pro.
These two I did on the SketchBook Pro as well.
This two I did using Procreate after they updated with the latest features and more brushes. It's currently my fav to use on the iPad because it's pretty easy to use and no lag.
04-17-2012, 09:40 AM
Good to see your work again. :) I like the kimono in the fourth picture. Have you tried painting in Procreate yet? It would be nice to see how finished a piece you can get.
I think you may need to just spend some time sketching hands. The ipad is a pretty ideal sketchpad. The most helpful piece of advice for drawing hands was to draw the palm of the hand as a kind of flat box and then add the fingers on to it. Otherwise I find that the fingers start taking over the hand. D:
04-18-2012, 01:28 PM
Nisaren: thanks for your comments and advice. I think i'm starting to fall in love with the inking brushes of the Procreate. It's just way easier than in Photoshop. Lol. Here's the result after a few hours doodling and iinking. I think I'll try colouring this one.
Ah, that's come up very well - does Procreate have a stabilizer option for when you're inking? I just ask, as the lines seem to end with a nice crisp point.
I'm soon to acquire an iPad to use at work, so I'm curious as well, does either Procreate or Sketchbook Pro allow you to manipulate an image after you've drawn it? I wouldn't be looking to do anything fancy, but I like to squash and stretch sketches in photoshop with the transform tools and it'd be handy if any of the portable apps supported that sort of thing.
04-18-2012, 10:21 PM
Pretty nice! like the clothes. Two things i see wrong. The back of the head is big.....quite big.....bigger then it should be ( think) And the arm holding the sweet key-blade( is it? One of those Kingdom hearts weapons right?) is way too short. Other then that Nice pose sweet clothes & key-thingie design!!!
04-19-2012, 01:13 AM
Your updated version looks nice. Although I think you need to zoom out a little more when you do your fine line work. All of your lines have a squiggliness to them. If you use broader arm movements (which you should be able to do using your iPad) you'll have much smoother straighter lines.
@Gaff You can do some manipulation of the image however it's very limited. Basically you can only do basic rotate and scale transformations, no skew or distorting like in photoshop, and there's is no selection tool - you transform the entire layer that you're working on. It can still be handy if you can figure out ways to work around the layer issue. In all, this probably helps you become a better artist as you're forced more often to just redraw or paint the area to get it right. Honestly though... for $4.99 you may as well get either Sketchbook Pro or Procreate (although I highly recommend Procreate!!). - Sorry LK for hijacking your thread. :X
04-19-2012, 11:55 AM
Gaff: what NIsaren said. Lol. I only just started using the updated Procreate and so far i've managed to work around the limitations. What Nisaren said is true, the limitations makes you think twice about what u do on the pic. So far i like the easy zooming and instant spinning whenever i work on a pic. But then again the lack of pressure sentivity is a minus. I like the brushes so far and i use the original settings. Haven't had a chance to customise anything.
Gedeon:i get what u mean. Thats not the back of her hair, its her poofy hair. The arm does seem short if u think it ends at the cuff of her jacket but it does't. Her wrist is past that and when i swing her arm back to her sides, it would fall just past her hips which would mean i got the general length of her arm just about right...
Or at least somewhere around that ball park. But thanks for ur c&c!
Nisaren: i would love to fix that wobbliness of my lines. Still not use to drawing and keeping my resting hand off the drawing space, which causes the app to think i got two fingers on the surface. This could be rectified with a snooker glove but i dun have one. So for the moment i'll have to adapt and learn to draw nice lines without resting my hand/wrist. Just like chinese calligraphy. Thqnks for your c&c!!
Latest update. The colouring progress after a few more hours.
07-29-2012, 03:22 PM
Sry for being away for long periods of time. Work and all that.
And something i did in ProCreate, Ipad2 and wacom stylus. Took me about an hour or so.
07-29-2012, 04:06 PM
That first one is looking really good! She's so cute!
The second is really pretty! I like the color choice!
08-02-2012, 03:38 PM
I'd really like to see you push your coloring more on the first piece in your latest post. I think if you were to choose colors that have more contrast it'll make the image pop out a lot more because right now it seems to be rather flat.
08-15-2012, 06:40 AM
JJJorgie: Thank you!
Nisaren: i get what you mean but having a hard time picturing it. Perhaps something like this?
*I erased the legs and the colouring for the eyes because i didn't like either of them.
08-15-2012, 02:13 PM
Wow that looks good :D I like the colours you have chosen however I think because you have been blurring the colours together that you can't see the shading very well. I would recommend not blurring the shading to much as it starts to look flat but and instead make it quite distinct from the actual colour of the base. Just ignore this if you are still going to add more shading or whatever :P good job :D
09-12-2012, 08:43 AM
Demonfyre: Thank u for your c&c. I'll try to incorporate what u said.

Break time. My oc Amy.
Done with iPad 2 + ProCreate App + Wacom Bamboo Stylus.
Time, an hour each day over a couple of days.
C&C please, thank you!
09-13-2012, 08:00 AM
's a good idea to use the ipad like that. How do you find it? As good as a tablet?
In terms of crit, the back arm seems a bit flat. It reminds me of the cardboard stores put in shirt sleeves to prevent creases. I'm not too sure how to fix it to be honest. Maybe redraw using cylinders might help?
09-13-2012, 05:43 PM
I agree the back arm/shoulder looks off. I think it's more a problem with the perspective of the piece. You need to decided if we're looking at more of a bird's eye view or side view. If we're at a side view (which I think fits better) the back shoulder would be lower. Still, very nice work. I know it takes a little more effort using the iPad.
11-26-2012, 04:57 AM
ScarletHue: its ok when u get used to the app and how it works. You get different results from using different tools. I still use the photoshop and tablet but these days its more for work.
Nisaren: thanks! I try to get as much practice with the ipad as possible. I try not to be distracted by the other apps... XD

I just finished this piece and it would b great to get some c&c from you all. Cheers!
11-26-2012, 08:21 PM
Ooh, I like the desaturated colors and the soft coloring style. I love how the hair wasn't shaded in strands. The outfit is cute, too. Something about the face seems off, though. I think, given the size of the eyes, that the facial features could be moved down to make it seem less crowded. That might entail lowering the jaw, too, but I'm not sure.
The eyes look kinda close to the sides of the head, I think. I like the shading in the hair quite a lot though.
11-27-2012, 05:04 AM
Celestial-Fox: I figured that you're right. The eyes are too big and too far apart. A child's face feature should be closer together to the centre. At least that's what I've read. lol. I'll try to amend it in photoshop (it's too big of hassle on ProCreate) and see how it turns out. The more I look at it right now, the more her eyes reminds me of a frog. (sad but disturbingly the truth)
Matt: Yeah eyes too close to the side or too far apart. So either i amend that or give her bigger nose and mouth. lol. We'll see. XD
Thank you both for your C&C! It's highly appreciated.

How is everyone doing? Everyone tip top and doing well, I hope.
Alright, time to blast the cobwebs off my stylus and break out the tablet. I've been away for far too long. So in order to get myself back into gear, I'm taking 3 requests~!
Please provide link to a picture of your request for reference. Thank you. ^_^
