Hey folks, what's up?
i was wondering, what are your favorite old school games?
http://netdna.webdesignerdepot.com/uploads/2008/11/doom-1993.jpg
mine has to be the Doom series (Doom 1,2 and Final Doom that is).
after all it was one of the first games i've ever played as a kid.
ah yes... good times... good times...

Hey Baron =)

Nice thread man *thumbs up*

Those are my favorites but they are not ordered. I had pics of them to show their versions:

http://i55.tinypic.com/16bbhqg.jpg
Need for Speed Underground (PC)
My little brother and I were playing it. My car was purple (that's guessable for the old MTs) ^^, my bro's was green. This is not considered too old for me because I played it when I was a teenager.

http://i55.tinypic.com/2pqw07o.jpg
Golden Axe III (Sega)
She was my favorite fighter ^w^ and she's holding my favorite type of swords.

http://i55.tinypic.com/k9w6ls.jpg
Super Mario (Family Computer) <-- too old! what an embarrassment ._."
I can't believe I used to play that game >_> but it was cool at that time.. My dear mummy joined us too <3 XD

http://i52.tinypic.com/f4qpaa.jpg
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Sega)
I used to like blue just because I like Sonic =)

No PlayStations or Xbox ^_^"

Super Mario world rocks! Also from the old, old nintendo: Double Dragon and Tetrus. For the super nintendo: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Starts (so awesome!) and Donkey Kong. There're too many games to list from N64.

Good thread, I have so many favorite old school games... I hope this isn't too much...

NES:
- Blaster Master (awesome gameplay coupled with terrible story... funny if I think about it now)
- Guardian Legend

SEGA Genesis:
- All Sonic series, especially Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles
- Gun Star Heroes (if only Treasure could make the sequel at least as good as this)
- Yu Yu Hakuso 2 (the best Yu Yu Hakuso game ever!)

SNES:
- Star Ocean (the one that start the series, what else need to be said?)
- Tales of Phantasia (the one that start the series, what else need to be said?)
- Chrono Trigger (no brainer)
- FF VI (also a no brainer)
- Terranigma (go around the world, saving plants and animals, cool)
- Front Mission (the one that start the series, what else need to be said?)

PSX and Saturn
(I won't write any since there is too many and still too new anyway... but I still need to mentioned this one)
Virtual On (high speed battle mecha VS mecha, one of my most favorite game)

Hmmm...

I think Marvel vs. Capcom, Metal Slug, Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Command & Conquer: Red Alert and Advance Wars all take a rightful spot in my pantheon of oldschool classics.

So many great games!

Road Rash (on Sega)

http://veerasundar.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/road-rash.jpg

Early Final Fantasy:

http://wikicheats.gametrailers.com/images/d/df/Final_Fantasy_1_and_2_screenshot.jpg

I saw Chrono Trigger in an earlier post, but I like this one, too (big picture, so I'm putting it in a spoiler:

http://world-of-games.co.uk/PSONE/album/520-chrono-cross-007-cwjtn.jpg

and finally, Legend of Mana (always wanted to play secret of mana, but never got to...too hard to find.):

Ha I remember road rash. I only played that game because you could hit people.

Its like double dribble on the genesis. It was a basketball game with a punch button.

Blue_Dragon
01-24-2011, 04:11 AM
Yeah, Road Rash rocked! I think the club was my favorite weapon...the chain was okay, but the club's sound effects were better :P Before there was GTA, there was Road Rash!

Also, nobody probably remembers it, but I loved Return to Zork. I'd always kill the old dude, then I'd get arrested (well, I wouldn't always kill him)...If you just hit him, though, he says hilarious crap.

http://www.frobozzmagicco.com/Pics/Sito/RTZ_Music.gif

Dr. Mario's was pretty fun, too

Road Rash, I played all the series... but only those on Genesis... since I don't know why, I can't enjoy playing those on PSX. Something is different and lacking.

Rio

and finally, Legend of Mana (always wanted to play secret of mana, but never got to...too hard to find.):
http://www.legendofmana.net/images/screenshots/full/ss07.jpgOoooo, I love this game! I have both in my collection. :D

Speaking of which, I can't believe I forgot my other favorite RPG:

Phantasy Star IV!!! <3 <3

First game played on a console- Mario

First game ever - Tetris

First game finished - Tie between Resident Evil and FF7. I can't remember which I finished first.

Old favs: Legend of mana (definitely!), Suikoden II, Resident evil (1,2 &3), FF7, FF Tactics, Xenogears (amazing game & story line), Azure Dreams, Lunar the silver star story (I'm getting the PSP new realeased Lunar the Silver Star Harmony, can't wait for it to arrive!), Monster Rancher II & IV, Harvest Moon, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly and Dino Crisis.

Rio

Ooo, Azure Dreams! I love that game! :3 And I personally love Harvest Moon: Mineral Town & the girl version HM: More Friends of Mineral Town.

My list isn't exactly old-school but they are past their time:

Pokemon Red/Blue. Nuff said.

Not sure why, but NFL Street 2. There was so much customization and RPG-like elements to that game, plus it was downright fun to play.

Phantasy Star Online. I never got online but my friends and I built a whole fanfic based on how our characters progressed and how we explored and discovered new parts to the game (we leveled up very slow).

Fire Emblem. Best soundtrack I've ever listened to and one of my first ever RPGs.

Lady_Knife

Fire Emblem! OMG how could I forget that? The only strat based game on the game boy that I ever liked!

Here's three old school games that are dear ro my heart:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ck8T22NxxeA/R1cIKc2igJI/AAAAAAAAACk/ruap0bHMJTQ/s320/StreetFighter1Screenshot.gif

Street Fighter 1. Everybody knows about SF2 & beyond, but this game was really hard to play & won me lots of bets at the arcade!

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/6AHFeIvSDh0/0.jpg

Pool of Radience (Comodore 64). This RPG was 'state of the art' when it came out & loads of fun if you like dungeon crawling & puttin' the smack down on some kobolds & goblins.

It's a tough game. So tough that they re-released it with an optional AI that makes occasional mistakes, as opposed to the standard AI which never makes mistakes... Also, that Savage's ranged attack rapes.

Ah yes... Contra.
one of the most memorable and unforgiving games i've played so far.
i only managed to finish Contra 4 once, after getting amped up on coffee.
it might have cost my beauty sleep, but it was totally worth it.

I used spend a lot of time in the arcade...taking folk's money on Street Fighter & Street Fighter 2. But I did manage to play other cool arcade games:

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQNpdKz-nuOAjxmNsRhPR0TWSSjVi6wx5hpXJ17kCGfJEks84ch

Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Mystara rocks, but you needed four people to beat the game.

http://watchmojo.com/video_games/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/captain-america-dorkly-comedy.jpg

Captain America & the Avengers was another great 4 player arcade game too.

http://www.gordtep.com/files/2009/06/shot111-150x150.jpg

1983 Star Wars game was like actually being in an X-Wing...if outer space was made up of vector lines.

Serously..I'm a beast on Street Fighter(s)...

...I allways play with this guy. ^ Ken Masters & will will own you!!!

I didn't remember many moves either but if you know at least 3 - one projectile move, one at close range and an uppercut-type move, then you can at least hold your own. It also helps if you keep at it with the same character (even though it won't be as fun) so that you specialize in that person's moves.

Mine old games are:
Need for Speed III: HP, High Stakes, HP2, Underground, Carbon, Pro Street and World. I played Underground or Most Wanted since I was about 8 or 9 years old, but I did not have any partners to play together. In 9 or 10 years old, I joined the NFS clan and I was kicked due to inactivity or underage - reason unknown, but probably both. I wasn't too active because I joined just to download cars and tracks for NFSIII or NFSHS.
Civilisation: It is a complicated but interesting game. I am talking about DOS version of it.
Sim City series. When I was 9 or 10 years old, I downloaded SC2000. It was cool, but trains are driving randomly. My favourite is SC4:Deluxe, I downloaded it at my 14 years old, but could not download it early because my mother installed very expensive Internet, which speed was about 1,3kBps, and maximun amount of traffic was only 20MB. But, still wanted it.
GTA SA: I started to play it at my 11 years old age, but I hated storyline, so I installed the stripped main script from Clean GTA SA mod. In my 13 years old of age, I stopped playing it and will never restart.
Hot Wheels Bash Arena: When I was about 7, it was the only game on my PC, and I was tired of seeing tiny fantasy cars and smashing instead of racing and wanted a real racing.
Test Drive Series: In my 8 years old of age, my mother bought me a Test Drive 2003. I am still tired of this game because in this game cars are uneasy to control and opponents were too evil. At 9, I played Test Drive II: The Duel, Test Drive III: The Passion, Test Drive 4, and 6. First was my favourite to recreate it, third was interesting but the controls were boring, 4 and 6 were so so because of competitive opponents. Recently, I started to play TDU, the car was skidding frequently, and I couldn't handle it.
Trainz Railroad Simulator: Since I love railways, I started to play TRS2004 and create simple routes for it in my 10. I still play it and contribute, but my works mods deleted and I am permanently banned onto 5 websites.
Clifford's Birthday: My first game. I played it in my 7 years old and I disliked it. I hated RPGs and quest games before my 14 years old.

This history of my gaming career may be too dramatic for you. If I was at 7-10 years old here, some older girls who are 14-16 will come to me while I am crying and dreaming and say "Oh my cutie-chan! Poor boy!" or similar.

My perspective gaming and contributing is planning to play Cities in Motion, City Bus Simulator, TOCA Race Driver, some tamagocchi stuff or RPGs etc.
