Hello C: My name is Rin, you can call me Midori or Rin or Dumpling. lol whatever works best xD
Im pretty sure my thread name makes no sense... but everyone's was so cool ;u;
Tis nice to be here at MT forums =D.
So as suggested I decided to put up a critique thread for work ^^
Please feel welcome to critique however you like, I would greatly appreciate it! =D
I hope that I can improve my works C: If not, lol, oh well I'll keep working hard anyways ^^
Have fun! \(^-^)/
So in order not to double post? I'll upload here C:
I made this a year or so ago, and it is probably the best my anatomy has ever been, or so it seems in my eyes. o_O
06-22-2012, 06:33 PM
Yay! This is so pretty! I love the detail of the clothes! Her arms are a little thin and long, and her calfs are a bit short. Wonderful job!!!
06-22-2012, 07:58 PM
Thanks Jorgie C:
I be sure to work on my arms and legs!
06-22-2012, 10:15 PM
DUMPLING! That's kinda cute, but you're a dude so I'll go for Rin.
That art is really amazing! You sure beat me on elves xD Only thing I can point out is that her arm is a little too long and it lacks the muscle shapes that make it look realistic... kinda look like she've been heavily starving. Sorry if that comparing was a little too far.
The elbow need to go right under her 3rd rib and her lower arm must be a little shorter than the upper arm when it's bended up so the 2nd joint of the thumb reach the top of the shoulder. Just take a look in the mirror or bend your arm up to see how it's shaped. The curves on her arms also needs to be a little wider for it to be visible and look realistic. I suggest you look at some refs of real human anatomi and some well made manga arts on the web, could come to use ;)
But yh, that's the only thing it seems like you need to work on for now ;)
EDIT: I see JJ already pointed it out... but what is a little extra details now and then? ;P
06-22-2012, 10:22 PM
Looks brilliant, the way you drew the dress is astounding :D only thing I notice is what JJ said that the arms look thin, almost skeletal :L
06-22-2012, 10:46 PM
ohh lol @eltoroguaco Sorry about that I'm actually a dudette.
@Demon Thank you, I'll definitely work on that. C:

Welcome! I like the concept of your drawing, and you seem to be at a comfortable stage in your art. The arms are quite long and skinny.
You seem to have basic proportions down right now. But now, I highly suggest looking through this thread: http://www.mangatutorials.com/forum/showthread.php?2337-Anatomy-Reference-Practice-Thread-*SFW-with-nudity*
And try using the information in the OP. It will definately help you. I think you should also practice with shading in your art, and continue on with studying folds. Nice for a first post here though!
06-22-2012, 11:27 PM
ohh lol @eltoroguaco Sorry about that I'm actually a dudette.
a dudette? o.o what do you mean by that? shemale, gay, dragqueen? I know many different ways of defining that "nickname" XP
06-23-2012, 12:05 AM
Lol, how about I change my gender for you.
@toast Thank you so much C: I'll definitly be checking that out!

She looks a little anorexic, man, beef her up some. The arms and legs are a bit like branches, not saying turn them into trunks, but beef them up some, make sure to make the hands a might bigger when you do this. In any case, the dress was drawn well, and you did a splendid job with the shading.
06-23-2012, 07:50 AM
She does look anorexic I agree. For me though it's less about her limbs and more about how pronounced her collar bone is here. You rarely see it so bold in people of healthy weight nor should you be able to see the whole thing extending all the way to the shoulder unless you have a dangerous 1% body fat.
She has nice long legs like a true dancer but I notice that the bottom half of the legs is shorter than the top. Usually they should be about equal length.
The hands are drawn very elegantly though I note.
06-23-2012, 07:02 PM
If you guys really think her character looks anorexic, I don't think you know what an anorexic person looks like. And even if she did draw a very skinny character, so what? That's not our decision to tell her not too, that is a stylistic choice. If you want to criticize someones art, you criticize proportions and the like, not how fat/skinny that character is.
06-23-2012, 07:57 PM
Thank you for your suggestions and comments :) I understand that she on the thin side.
toast i do agree with you, it is my own opinion as art is an expression of myself ^^ but i'm open to everyones suggestions, no matter what they may be.
C: made this today on the groupboard. I wonder if there is a tutorial on how to paint skin.
06-23-2012, 09:08 PM
This is super cute!!! I love the hair! The nose could be a little lower, but I think that might be more stylistic. Well done!
06-26-2012, 06:58 PM
^Thanks, yah I do believe the nose is a bit high.
So, I have a few more drawings.
This is a quick sketch.
And this is for a theme Fairy Tale: Snow White in the MT 100 Theme challenge.
I made the sketch on GB and later redid the lines on SAI.
06-26-2012, 07:02 PM
I love the way you drew the hair on your 100TC, it's looking great :D the only thing that I notice is that maybe on the hand that is clenched together that you made the parts of the fingers visible a bit too long but I'm probably wrong :L keep up your awesome work Midori :D
06-26-2012, 07:23 PM
She looks gorgeous! I really like the way you drew her face, and the smoothness of the lines. Gah, just thinking about relining that hair with Sai gives me shivers, you did a real good job!
Can't wait to see more :)
06-28-2012, 08:26 PM
^Thanks guys :). And I shortened down her hands a bit.
I did some practise with shading, and also my side profile view of a semi realistic face.
06-28-2012, 11:57 PM
Wowzers! That looks wonderful! I tthink the ear may be a little low.
06-29-2012, 03:49 AM
this looks great! the only thing i can see is that in a normal position the neck would probably be at more of a diagonal to the nead. people's spines curve forward at the neck, but thar's only a minor adjustment. great work!!
11-01-2012, 08:24 AM
I haven't posted here in a while. >.<
and I don't know whether this is what you call 'ressurecting a dead post', but if I should've made a new post I will.
I don't know but my pictures seem to lean to the left a lot. Can anyone recommend something that will help me draw even a little straighter.
11-01-2012, 09:20 AM
Oh gawds, Midori be back ^_^ Lovely art as always, the things I notice is that you make the necks pretty long, and also on the girl, her belly button is very low on her body and her upper arm is a tad to long I think :)
11-01-2012, 12:13 PM
Hi there Literria! Awesome artwork as usual ;3 both your girls and boys look sexy and cute at the same time ;3 Poses are just stiff tho. so maybe you can work on that and it'll be more awesome :3
I love the contrast and colors btw. I wish i could do that too ;3 lol you inspire me :3
11-01-2012, 06:04 PM
Loving these new pictures!! On the second, his nose looks like it's viewed from an angle, but the rest of him is straight.
11-01-2012, 09:47 PM
I like your art lots, artisticly and proportion wise. However Your figures are drawn with not enough variety, which needs a posing pratice. Fill a sheet with drawings of faceless characters with a lot of poses from various references and you'll really getting the hang of it :O :P Keep drawing cool stuff

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to fix those mistakes.
@Tetsu Yawl Hi! Thanks for your feedback. Yep, I'll definitely try that because I do feel that my poses are usually the same in every picture and my characters look too rigid.
11-02-2012, 11:17 AM
Watch this and that should help, a lot of it is going over gestures and such, but what Villpu is talking about is a very good framework or proceedings to go about when you make up a pose, or to make a pose more interesting, also try pose maniacs and just draw random poses so you get some variety practising others :)
11-03-2012, 11:35 PM
hey! a few things I noticed right away
-The belly button is way too low. look at the height of the belly button compared to the crotch: http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/cspmedia/cspmedia1111/cspmedia111100010/11347057-close-up-of-a-female-torso-with-remarkable-abdominal-muscle-tone--unretouched-skin-exhibits-rare-nat.jpg
-the wrists are itty bitty and the hand poses are quite basic
-the collarbone is not connected like that http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iZyBXHDo8Bc/UCYO8Ba0p0I/AAAAAAAAAG4/iKGqcUj2_kE/s1600/article-1027843-01AD144500000578-894_468x542.jpg
11-12-2012, 04:38 PM
Thanks guys, I've tried to incorporate that into my recent drawings. :)
This is one of the stuffs I have been working on. I really need help with the legs. I'm unsure if this entire thing is proportioned correctly. I tried finding some kind of reference but I didn't find anything.
Tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
And recently GB seems to crash on me so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it?
11-12-2012, 09:08 PM
TOOO PRETTY heheheh :3
The design is really good. Especially on clothes and hair. Your lineart is crisp and clear and use of black and white is good too.
Maybe the breasts are too far down or is this a perspective shot?
The angle of the head confuses me a bit but still this is awesome
She really is beautiful, your Daniella :3
11-12-2012, 11:50 PM
if it's a perspective shot, then it's fine. If it's not, then her legs and lower body are too small in general. and her boobs could be higher if you wanted to balance the composition without changing the legs. I love the way you did her dress, she looks like someone who acts sweet but can be really devious X3
11-13-2012, 12:03 AM
Even on a perspective shot this is wrong, because the wide on the legs is too much. In here you have: if its not a shot with strong perspective, a dwarf (mythological). And if it does have strong perspective, you have Big foot.
Always do the following exercise to see the problem, cover the lower body, and then the upper body, you are going to see that they don't match. Also the skirt has a lot of problems with the same things, you don't really know what perspective is following, its like the body was chopped in 3 parts.
Okay, I didn't wanted to post, but it bothered my that no one stated this as a huge problem, because it is.
11-13-2012, 05:17 AM
If it is a perspective shot her neck must be massive and her arms appear to just cut off, probably the way you have the dress appear around them or something, aesthetically it looks nice and pretty though
TI tried finding some kind of reference but I didn't find anything.
Try this (http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/young-woman-with-a-disco-ball-in-her-hands-royalty-free-image/130883411). If you were going for a perspective shot, this is pretty close in terms of how her body tapers gently downward.
Perspective aside, I agree that it's quite a nice design as it stands. I think her right eye is sticking out a little too much though; would suggest making it slightly smaller and more flush with her cheek.
