I've noticed that a bit but my knowledge comes from unreliable sources (kdramas). It seems like their parents are the dominant forces thru out their lives ( or is that a giant cliche they play up?). Who you can date when you should be married by what's the best career path all decided for you then you aren't allowed to make the choices you wanted till your kids come? That just sucks.

I really couldn't imagine living anywhere in Europe dispite thinking itd be damn fun. I just don't know how I'd cope.

Australia has way too many poisonous animals for me to even step foot on its soil. Like the freaking platypus has poison?! What the hell is that! Why would you give some funny looking creature that just about everyone LOVES poison??? That's just messed!

Inksprout
01-20-2012, 12:04 AM
Yeah but its not like the poisonous animals are just roving around everywhere. It annoys me that people act like Australia is just covered in deadly animals. I lived in the country and even then I would only see the occasional snake, they always slither away unless you provoke them because they're cowardly. I've never even seen a platypus in the wild and dingos only live in some parts of the country. They don't generally prey on humans, even though they're not a domesticated animal they have lived alongside humans for thousands of years, often as companions.

Psy
01-20-2012, 12:16 AM
I was told all this by an Australian and it may be he was trying to just keep me away. I'm sure it's not as bad as he said but I have very odd luck so I'd be that unfortunate foreigner that goes and gets killed by a funnel web spider.

A lot of aussies who live in the city (like me) have really odd accents because we're so often exposed to other english accents on tv. There are people who speak with perfect english or American accents even though they've never left Australia. Tbh even if China does take over the world it won't be too awful. In terms of economic support and help for the disadvantaged it does achieve its aims. China is a great example of what the US hates, "big government, small business". While there are evils to having a big government with regards to free speech and social freedoms, the economics of China are so heavily controlled that there's very little opportunity for multinationals to go haywire and rape their economy, unlike in the US and other first-world countries.

At the moment, the Chinese government is being fairly responsible with its power, which is more than can be said for Western politicians. There are political horror stories, but I suspect that if China wants to expand then it'll have to become increasingly liberal and accept a broader range of views than those mandated by the government.

So basically China has the opposite problem to the US

They are going to drop the speed quiet fast. They have 2 big problems in the development. Their population is centered in elders, which mean that those are not productive citizens and they are maintained, and the other problem is the conflict of migration farm to city. Also, without speaking of the obvious political control of free speech and other problems.

South Korea has the advantage, today. Their problem is that it's very centralized, and with time (as the speed they develop technology) it might hurt other areas that are not big cities.

Another big adversary in technology is the India, they are the principal software developers and they have great programmers. But as we all know, they have big social problems.

I think we are seeing the demise of superpowers, really. India and China have too many internal issues to pick up the slack when America finally loses its empire. Honestly, though, I think it's because what we are seeing is the death of the nation-state. America died ages ago, it's just a zombie being puppeteered by plutocrats. That's, I think, what we are going to see more and more. The death of the nation state and the rise of the supernational plutocracy in its wake.

As for South Korea in particular, I admit to being generally ignorant about South Korea, so I won't speak on it. Although I do have to wonder how they, as a nation, will handle the grave threat posed by electric fans.

Exactly. Cyberpunk is now. The world is a nightmarish dystopia ruled by obscenely wealthy and utterly immoral plutocrats. Technology and the internet are an inescapable part of daily lives, and most people do a significant portion of their socializing and news gathering from the internet. The only people willing to fight the evil overlords are hackers of dubious morality.

Greatest country? None. There isn't one nowadays. Plain and simple. Everyone is taking a turn for the worse (Except the Asians for whatever reason and I won't discuss it further in fear of being labeled as "racist"). Hell, all the revolutions going on in the middle east, and in northern africa has pretty nuch torn that place apart. Japan got hit with huge ass tidal wave. The US is having huge ass financial problems. Greece was in huge debt,(or still is, IDK and IDC). The UK had some problems, as well as a few other UK countries. So yeah, I can see the trend.
