When I heard the news, I actually had to look up what country he was in charge of. It was at this moment that I realized I have no right posting in any political thread here ever because I don't know crap about it.

For those of you politically inclined, does this mean anything significant for North Korea? For the US?

Hayashida
12-18-2011, 11:15 PM
So who's taking over his position? His son?

ClockHand
12-18-2011, 11:16 PM
Yeah, he was put as successor in the 2010. Still, between now and his heritage, everything might happen.

Hayashida
12-18-2011, 11:17 PM
Wasn't his son educated in Europe? Or am I thinking of someone else. If not though I wonder how that will affect his ruling style or whatevs

Ahhh, it was only a matter of time. Now we wait and see.

His death inspired some racist Facebook comments by ignorant people who find it justified. :/

ugggggh humanity

ClockHand

I don't think his dead might change everything. We need to understand that this is the action of not just one man, but a whole party of mans with powers, unless there is conflict inside the group, there will be little or none change.

The big thing is now with his son, as he will get to the power, this can create some conflict inside the group. Also if he get the powers, what is he going to do?

GunZet

I'm hoping his son plays the right cards. Otherwise it's just surprise buttcex for Korea all over again.

ClockHand
12-18-2011, 11:34 PM
Well the rights cards are hard to pick. He will rule if he has power, if he shows weakness he shows he is not able to rule. Think about it as a feudal system.

GunZet
12-18-2011, 11:36 PM
It's more of a moral thing. If he can realize that his people are suffering, then the right cards may come to him, and with the right cards come the right decisions, and with that comes progress. But if he's as fucked up as his dad... yeup, nothin' gud. MoTS.

No, he was. I think it was Sweden, could be wrong about that part though.

Well, North Koreans are suppose to be starving worse then ever before ... Could drive them to negotiations.

ClockHand
12-18-2011, 11:43 PM
It's not moral at all, if he shows petty it can be interpreted as weakness, and with that his political dead. Yes, he have to pull out North Korea from what it is now, but doing it to fast would mean his dead and the dead of North Korea.

If he open the economy to the exterior North Korea is gonna go in bankrupt. If he try to give to the population taking from someone else it might arise problems, specially if those others also have some political problems. And the same will go if he takes money from the militarist program.

GunZet
12-18-2011, 11:47 PM
So basically what you've said is there's no hope.

ClockHand
12-18-2011, 11:49 PM
It is if he go for a slow development of the inner economy and to the infraestructure (that might take many, many years). Or if there is a strike.

Fenn
12-19-2011, 12:48 AM
Doesn't sound ike things are gonna get any better for the general populace. That sucks.

Bacon_Barbarian
12-19-2011, 01:28 AM
Well, he may actually open the country to outside help, the Red Cross for example... Might.

ClockHand
12-19-2011, 01:29 AM
It would be a bad decision, remember, he need to mantain his authority and "asking help" is not the best way to do it. The best he could do is to fix the inner economy by himself, but again, already this will take a lot of time, specially because you don't want to make enemies.

Hasn't NK been asking for help for the longest time now?

The citizens, not the dictatorship.

Let's just hope his son is able to get a clue....

It's gonna be tough, and the system there is kind of crazy anyway, from what I've researched/seen.

He will be succeeded by his relatively immune brother, Kim Jong Not Il

The entire world and, indeed, the heavens themselves are aghast and in mourning at this news. It is almost unimaginable that the Party Center, the Superior Person, the Great Leader, the Dear Leader, who is a perfect incarnation of the appearance that a leader should have, the Shining Star of Paektu Mountain, the Guiding Sun Ray, the very Guarantee of the Fatherland's Unification, the Great Leader of our Party and of our Nation, the Ever-Victorious, Iron-Willed Commander, the Great Sun OF life, the Glorious General, Who Descended From Heaven, the Highest Incarnation of the Revolutionary Comradely Love, His Excellency Kim Jong-Il is now dead. Truly the heavens smiled upon Best Korea and Juche for these past 69 years.

Today the world is without its greatest nation-builder, leader, film-maker, and internet-operator.

I seriously hope NK is ready to repel another onslaught of cranes.

"When the most beloved leader Kim Il Sung passed away, thousands of cranes descended from heaven to fetch him. But the birds couldn't take him away because they saw that all North Koreans cried and screamed and pummeled their chests and pulled out their hair.

Deeply moved, the cranes instead put Kim Il Sung to rest in a heavenly palace built on Earth."
