I don't think I posted a thread a long time ago...but I don't know because it's been a while, and also, I didn't seem to see it.
Anyway, any thoughts on these?
I know the eye is bugged out here:
12-18-2011, 01:20 AM
I freaking love the colouring shading and everything, the one thing that stood out to me as off the right eye (her left out right) it is smaller than the other eye and also a bit too close together with the other eye. your picture looks pretty much finished so for future reference try mirroring the image in the art program you use so you can see whats odd.
12-18-2011, 01:26 AM
I actually do mirror stuff but for some reason, I couldn't get that eye right. That and I don't really understand Painter.
I also noticed her ears are off.
12-18-2011, 01:28 AM
the left ear maybe is facing like its poking out from her head, where as it should look a little flatter like the other.
12-18-2011, 01:44 AM
Her ear is the right size according to the ref, but it's totally off in regards to the placement. I think the nostrils are a bit too big, too.
12-19-2011, 01:24 AM
That one eye is totally wonky. Anyone see anything else?
12-19-2011, 01:37 AM
nope she looks pretty nice to me :D
12-19-2011, 02:10 AM
I would either bring her nose a bit further to the left, along with her lips. Or move a bit of the left cheek inwards. The right eye pupil also seems a bit large compared to the left.
Other than that stuff, I love this piece, the colors are awesome, and the texture is just great. Everything works out pretty good, but I wonder what'd happen if you threw in a bit more contrast on shadowed areas of the face.
12-19-2011, 02:51 AM
Its so pretty I don't know if its weird to say that I'm like in love with the lips and the color scheme
12-19-2011, 09:54 AM
I like the latter pic. To me it's something out of some fantasy game. :) I don't see anything wrong with it though. Not bad. ;)
12-19-2011, 11:48 AM
Gunzet: YEAAAA, that eye is....it needs to be poked out. You're right bout the green part covering the black though. And you know, I thought to same thing with the nose but with the ref I have, it's actually pretty apart from the nose. I haven't haven't worked in all the shading yet, but things always screw up when I add more shadows with human faces.....But I will be working some more shadows in there. Maybe I can see if moving in the cheek will make it look all right. :) Thanks for the thoughtful crit!
Spider: For once, my lips didn't come out like thin paper strips.
Dead: Thanks! I was trying to go for SOME sort of theme....
12-21-2011, 07:33 PM
I know the eye is kind of creepy right now, but any thoughts?
12-21-2011, 07:55 PM
OAO ....uniiiiicoooorn..........Really nice good color transition :D hard yet so soft. I think the horn is a bit budgy and unstable, and i think the ears are too big. Other then that pretty awesome!
12-21-2011, 08:43 PM
You're right on the ears. XD I was thinking about that myself.
12-24-2011, 12:31 AM
FYI, the colors are messed up. I haven't gotten to fixing them on the screen; my tablet PC has some funky colorage going on, so please don't comment on that.
Besides grunging him up, what do you think I could do to make up his character? What sort of things should I add to make him more interesting? etc
12-29-2011, 08:25 PM
12-30-2011, 06:09 AM
Love all the pics you've posted, the shading and colours you use are great! For the unicorn, imo the horn is fine, but I agree about making the ears a bit smaller. For the picture of the guy (pirate?) I'm not sure what you could do to make him more 'interesting', depends on his character really! Maybe a scar on his face? or add a pattern on his headscarf? I think he looks great though, and the eyes are really good. I really like the last picture, would like to see it coloured! For the girl in the left, I think maybe you should move her bellybutton over to our right a bit, as the positioning of the centre of the skirt looks a bit further over (unless her upper body is twisting in which case ignore me) :)
12-31-2011, 07:51 PM
It actually is twisting, but hey, it might look better there!
I really like the checkered idea. I thought about a scar, but I thought that might look too generic.
Thank you muchly for your thoughtful critique.
12-31-2011, 08:07 PM
Are they cake?
12-31-2011, 08:07 PM
The girls? I was thinking drinks.
12-31-2011, 08:10 PM
Add tentacles to their faces
12-31-2011, 09:00 PM
Whats with you and tentacles these days sly? I think that they look like they have whipped(?) cream all over them.
01-01-2012, 10:26 AM
Once I color them, I don't think they'll look like it. XD
I need to update with the next sketch I'm working on here...
01-03-2012, 12:40 AM
I need to fix the eye/jaw. Any other thoughts?http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/002/7/f/highborn_wip_by_hoegoeshinseki-d4l4ugt.png
01-03-2012, 01:09 AM
Ehhhh? Looks fine to me, but I don't think anyone here really knows cat skulls all that well
01-03-2012, 09:54 PM
It's not exactly a cat...LOL.
01-03-2012, 11:39 PM
its lovely~ I love the way you do colours and paint
01-04-2012, 12:40 PM
The colours you chose are lovely, and the fur is really well done and realistic
01-05-2012, 10:38 AM
Thank you. I found a new method, so I am excited to keep doing it.
01-05-2012, 11:35 AM
Very cool too! Maybe make the front bit of hair / fringe a little bit lighter? coz of the light shining on it - just the nose bit is very bright, and the hair doesnt seem to be quite as bright
01-06-2012, 11:55 AM
Oh, Sunny, you should totally teach us how to paint this way. It looks awesome. I'm really liking the detail you're achieving with it. The background looks great, too, with how it goes light from dark. Even though it's not a smoother gradient, it still works really well with the character. The one thing that I could see is that the spikes on his/her back need a little more contrast from the background and from the wolf(? Hope I'm not getting it wrong here.). Honestly, it almost looks as if you did this traditionally with oil paints. :O
I can't wait to see more of this painting style!
01-15-2012, 05:16 PM
Oh, hahaha, Shadow...yea, you're right there. Granted, I haven't done all the lighting, really, but yes, thank you for pointing that out.
Jaidurn, I actually use Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, and Painter Essentials. :) It's really not that hard once you get used to it.
I haven't really finished the spikes, but I totally agree. I was really thinking the same thing, honestly.
I totally messed up this gal's face. @_@ (The eyes are all wrong, I know...shape and stuff.)
Any thoughts otherwise?
And the whole image....
(totally killed quality...)
I like it, but I feel that all the sky colors don't work out completely. I kept painting, but I just didn't get it RIGHT.
Lastly, do you think these colors/styles went well together?
01-15-2012, 06:38 PM
you and your damn furries lolol nah s'all good, K im gonna say the first pic of the top post (the black and white girl)
look at the left eye for a sec, now look at the pupil, it is in a completely different direction than the right pupil, it gives her a googled eye look. centre it up and make sure its the same as the other :)
01-15-2012, 06:44 PM
The blood spewing out of the furries mouth at first glance looked like a chunk of bloody fur the way it was drawn/painted.
01-15-2012, 07:24 PM
amazing stuff! just the last picture of the wolf girl (Acorn) her feet seems to me are kinda levitating, but I could be wrong. anyway very nice art!
01-15-2012, 07:41 PM
Cloudy: Lol, I said the eyes were screwed!
Joosh: Yea, it is a little thick.
Andr: I think you're totally right. Lol!
01-16-2012, 06:11 AM
welll! I'm telling you again MISSY!
01-16-2012, 06:01 PM
Ooooh...you will, will you? Rawr rawr rawrrrrrrrrr.
01-17-2012, 11:34 AM
I loove the clouds and the background, they're amazing! For the black and white picture of the girl, something about the left hand seems a bit off for me, but I'm not too sure what. If you hold your hand in that position, I think there should be more of a line coming out from the thumb, connecting it closer to the pointer finger, maybe thats it? Other than that all great as always :)
01-17-2012, 03:19 PM
Hmm, well, it might be the hand shape, or the finger length. I know it looks a little weird to me, too, but I'm not sure what.
01-17-2012, 08:44 PM
digging the water and lilies
01-18-2012, 02:51 AM
Nothing to say there exccept its excellent! :) Love the bright colors, especially the water.
01-25-2012, 11:57 AM
Thank you so much, both of you!
06-21-2012, 08:54 PM
UGH, no updates, so long:
I really didn't like how I did my face. I'm trying to get better at expressions.
I feel I screwed up on the face there.
WIP of a woman. At least I'm trying.
Any thoughts on style, color, whatever, would be great.
06-21-2012, 11:05 PM
I really love the details of the fur! Your color choices are awesome! The rain on the second picture is wonderful! I have no critiques, just a great job!
06-22-2012, 07:04 AM
yayyy you're back!! and with some awesome stuff i see! I love the colours you've chosen for each piece. The only thing that stands out to me is the snout on the last picture. If you're going for the same kinda length as on your other pics, i think it should stand out from her face a bit more, sorta like in these pics:
just so that it's a little more noticeable. but if you were going for a smaller style snout then ignore me :) great job on the texture of her fur, especially on the tail, I love the little colours you used to show it!
06-25-2012, 07:27 PM
The pose for the first picture is really cute and I definitely love the details.
The colours used in the second picture are really pretty, again the detail is nice. C:
My favourite would have to be the background in the third picture, its absolutely beautiful. And you did a great job with the person.
Reaaaalllyy like that braid! Your art is very nice. ^^
06-29-2012, 08:05 PM
I wasn't really going for a long snout, but thank you so much for your time and thoughts!
I'm glad you like my art, and I appreciate it, Midori! Also, JJ, fur is really fun to paint.
I totally screwed up the eyes here...
I really have a hard time painting skin in SAI. Does anyone know any good SAI skin tuts?
06-29-2012, 08:12 PM
Try out this tutorial (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=skin+shading+tutorial#/d4i1spc), hopefully it will help you as much as it helped me :)
Your artwork is awesome :D can't wait to see more ^_^
EDIT: In fact just look around deviantart for shading tutorials there is many and i'm sure there will be one out there that will help :)
06-29-2012, 08:16 PM
Thanks! That's cool, and I'll have to give it a try, though I'm looking for more of a painterly effect. :3
07-01-2012, 09:41 PM
you are awesome......BUT you need MOAR hand practice!!! some perspective practice wouldn't hurt but you're pretty solid with that too. your coloring and shading is flawless! Now ( after you master hands/perspective) id advise you to focus on color schemes and color theory n stuff....if you study that your beautifully painted/colored pics will have a lot more BOOM to them. :D
07-01-2012, 11:29 PM
I actually can draw hands and I can draw more perspecitve-y stuff but I just...don't.
HOWEVER, in the past week, I decided that I'm going to actually really put effort into drawing hands. Drawing from life is always easier!
(I know I can always improve, but let's be honest--I'VE BEEN LAZY.)
I have studied color theory, but that's also one of those things I really want to get into. It's just...FINDING the material to study it. O_____O (I've had color theory classes.) All the stuff I find is like, "This color is this color."
You're totally right, though. I used to have so much detail and such to my drawings. I'm trying to get back to that. I'm so used to people commissioning these cheap things that it's...well, just one of those things that I don't get to practice a whole lot, and I think I'd be so much better if I did. That and lighting. But like always, drawing from life can really teach you a lot, and I should do it more often. Thanks for the crit!
07-04-2012, 12:08 AM
My perspective is kinda off. OH WELL. https://d.facdn.net/art/seraphimmoonshadow/1341374853.seraphimmoonshadow_thesubway2.png
07-04-2012, 12:43 AM
Great job! The colors all work so well together and the reflection are very nice! Keep up the wonderful job!
07-04-2012, 11:16 AM
Ithink what I like the most about this is the reflecting colors right now. Thank you so much!
07-06-2012, 07:27 AM
Really good reflections, although one thing id like to see more is MOAR solid colors. Now everything is soft, smudgy and fluffy. but that's just me. pretty good!
07-06-2012, 02:05 PM
I think both of the drawing's are very good, but I like the second one more. I don't know why...I just do :) Keep drawing :)
09-05-2012, 10:33 PM
The latest game...
http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/237/e/b/the_healing_by_celestialsunberry-d5cg0yp.png - large version
I think I messed up the chick's face. Also, it was larger, but I accidentally squished it somehow. I really should have make a cool background or something. Textures are great and all but...eh.
I also whipped this up as a game concept piece for school....
Any thoughts? I really still suck at paws. I need to make a sketchbook of refs for myself of hands and everything else for different poses or something.
I started trying to make some portraits....Grayscale to color. I don't think they turned out bad, but the eyes aren't that great. However, I recently started a new way of doing eyes, so, I think I'm on a new path...I'll show those, too, and you can tell me what you think.
Some attempts at eyes...
I still can't paint skin to save my life. I tried doing some grayscale to color but...it just didn't turn out.
I still can't paint faces digitally. I can draw them quite well with pencil, but digital---it's like all I know goes out the window or something.
My anatomy was so bad in that picture it's not even funny...sigh.
Sorry for posting so much. Comment on anything you want/if you see anything I could do better next time. Thanks!
09-06-2012, 05:55 PM
You're art is awesome and I enjoy looking at it. If you can't paint skin, keep practicing. If you can do the fur, you can figure it out.
09-06-2012, 06:39 PM
Your artwork is always so nice :3 those eyes you drew look fantastic and so is the very first image with the healing ram :)
If you can paint fur im sure you will be able to master skin :P the fur you paint looks much more complicated than skin paintings in my opinion :)
09-08-2012, 04:39 PM
yayay big update <3 love it all as always! the sparkles on the first pic are really cool, i love all the colours you used. for the games concept, maybe you could sharpen up the rock a bit? its a bit blurred, whereas rocks are very solid! I looove the shading of the blue neck scarf of the head portrait, the colours really bring it out! aaand finally those eyes are amazing! the bottom orange female ones are <3, so realistic and emotional! /end gushing
09-09-2012, 11:24 PM
Alma: We'll call ya Alma! I hope ya don'g mind. Anyway, no matter how many skin tutorials I read and practice, I just can't seem to figure it out. I dunno. Maybe if I painted it a diff color and changed it later, I might get around the mind wrap. Maybe it's just my mind period.
Emon: Eyes are the windows to the soul, right? I hope I can learn to master them. It will take time, but I think it's worth it.
I don't see fur as very complex. Granted, it, like skin, has many different tones. Maybe it's really just a mental "can't do" issue.
Shadow: Oh, yea, they are kind of soft. Heh. I wasn't really thinking about that at the time. *Donk*
I MUST GET BETTEERRR.
