View Full Version : Canime's Art ~ Critiques are very much appreciated!

12-15-2011, 11:33 PM
:cat_hi: Hey I've been drawing in many different styles lately and I can't decide what I like best :cat_nyaa: Plus I feel like I'm kinda off on my anatomy... Help?

I know there's something wrong with the bottom one, I just can't put my finger on it...

The bottom most one bothers me too...

Anatomy practice for girls of different ages.

And the rest are my latest CG's

I know, the hand looks all weird :cat_teardrop:

Thanks in advance~ :cat_shylove:

I think I found a new style, also sorry for the crappy quality in advance

I'm going to draw another character and post it tomorrow :3

What interests me most is the last picture.
I've been trying to draw curls all these times but still can't make a good detailed one.

...and is that a pig doll?
Did you draw it yourself or just putting it there?

About a critique, i think i'm in no position myself to give one because of my circumstances...
You could visit my thread (http://www.mangatutorials.com/forum/showthread.php?1734-Nara-s-Manga-Style-Art-Looking-for-Critiques-amp-Comments!) if you want to know the reason.

Pig doll, no, it was supposed to be a bunny ^_^; but i made it too dark to really see some details (And I think I went and erased a lot of the line art on it) As for the curls, I'd be happy to make a tutorial or something :-)

12-16-2011, 03:10 AM
your art is awesome. however I do agree with bunny girl's hand... it does look wierd. Also how the girl is holding the bunny shoes that the bunny will fall. When holding an animal, you need to have one hand on the bottom, like a baby, cause it gives support from falling

here's a pic that I hope helps (it's harder to find than I though)

Oh, my bad then... but the bunny really looks like a 3D art.

About tutorial; thanks, that would be so much appreciated though someone already gave me one.
So i think i'll pass, unless you already made it which is i have the obligation to accept it.

I swear I've been drawing A WHOLE FRIGGIN' LOT! I'm gonna wait until I get my scanner though and do a massive art dump... XD Here's something I just finished a few hours ago... http://art1.server01.sheezyart.com/image/246/2468389.jpg

02-05-2012, 11:38 PM
Nintendo. Good job. The perspective on the controller is nice, though I think your characters are a little skewed to the left.

02-06-2012, 07:38 PM
Wow, very nice work, I think I could learn a good deal from your art, especially from your body work. You draw hands pretty good, as well.

02-16-2012, 12:56 AM
:cat_umm: I haven't died, I've just been waiting for my stupid scanner to get here (still hasn't, I just used my uncle's which is "forbidden") :cat_secret:

Anywho... I recently took up a new style; C&C please? :cat_pweeese:

*NOTE: I didn't come up with it on my own; most of the stuff I'm going to post in this post I got from pics I've found on the interwebs and I tried mimicking them, now I can draw in that style without ref :cat_noways:

This one I did without ref, but it's still not quite done it, I gotta add the graffiti and figgin' TONE DOWN those lines on the wall! Way too dark. XD

This one I kinda used ref for the head in the corner 'cuz that's how I'm going to draw older-than-teenager-age charas (male anyways) >3<

And then these are the pics I used ref's with...

Thank you in advance~ :cat_shylove:

It would take a real master to critique your work to be honest. Most of this looks like it's straight out of an anime. The only real thing you have left to do in order to make it all perfect is shading, I guess. The clothing in the last one, I can tell you were trying to make it all loose fitting and too large for the person who's wearing it, but looks really bulky and sloppy. The only thing about that is though, is that I can't tell if it would still look that way after shading. Oh and the one where you said you used it as reference for the head in the corner, it may just be me, but it seems like maybe the legs on the character standing there might be just a liiiittle bit too short. The anatomy on everything else looks fine, that certain one just caught my eye though.

Honestly though, why don't you just start writing a Manga right now? You've got the skill to go for it.

02-17-2012, 10:37 PM
You're too kind~ :cat_embaressed: I see what you mean about the bagginess on his clothes, but I think you might be confusing part of the scarf with the jacket, and I completely agree with you with his legs being on the shorter side :monkey_ehheh: I ran out of room on the paper :monkey_actcool:

M-me?? Do a manga? :cat_pfft: Actually I'm still in the process of refining the story I'm currently working on... I haven't drawn a single page, but what I've noticed with A LOT of online manga-ka's is that they have a good idea and they do like 50 pages and then stop completely because they haven't planned out the rest of the story, and I don't wanna do that. :cat_sad: Not only that, but I've never tried shading/toning much before, I've never really tried paneling, and I'm still pretty bad at backgrounds... :cat_nyaa: I've been practicing a lot though! And I KNOW I will start it by summer, so that way I won't have to worry about school or anything :cat_thumbsup:

Thank you for taking the time to C&C!~ :cat_shylove:

02-19-2012, 10:07 PM
Hey everyone, I have a question!

Which of these do you think would be best for toning a manga page? :cat_huh:

With little dots?

With even smaller dots...

With slight cross-hatching.

Only with toning...

Or a mix? (This one's different because I did it last night.)

Or if you don't like any of these, please post an image of what you do like! :cat_payup:

Thank you~ :cat_see:

02-20-2012, 07:09 AM
My totally unprofessional opinion - they're all good, but I think the mix used the last one really made the textures on her clothing more 'real'. So id say that was the best ( again, in my totally amateurish unprofessional opinion.)

02-20-2012, 12:53 PM
Unprofessional? I don't think so. Any opinion is great! I like that one too because it was easier to do than the others XD Thank you for your opinion~

02-20-2012, 01:14 PM
just do different ones at different times! your an artist, yuo can do wtf you want.

02-20-2012, 02:16 PM
But that's so inconsistent! I like having a bit of unity, but I guess you're right in a sense.

02-20-2012, 02:45 PM
by different times, i mean different manga

02-20-2012, 02:52 PM
I gotta admit I don't really like the last one. It might just be the background throwing me off, but the whole image feels very busy. I like the other ones a lot better, they give off a soft feel. Also the image feels more cohesive with one type of toning. To me it's easier on the eyes :)

02-20-2012, 04:06 PM
@AlmanacnamedTime That makes more sense lol

@corastaur I was also thinking of doing only line art with only a little shading too. I see what you mean about how much it contrasts.

02-23-2012, 06:54 PM
I did a sketch last night and inked it during school today. This is my first time drawing in this perspective, other than the shorts, is there something else I could improve on?

02-29-2012, 02:09 PM
Its.....pretty darn good! The only thing "I" would do is that i'd enlarge the hand just a little bit more. So that it is seen clearly that its in the air above him. The shorts are ok but i think you should have med them.....well more appropriated for the perspective. If someone is watching some oval shaped ....shapes... from that perspective he wouldn't see so much of those lower ....urm laces? All im saying the lower part of the shorts would be less visible. Awesome work Canime.

02-29-2012, 08:16 PM
Yeah I'm fixing that up in PS ^u^; Thanks Ged~! NOTE TAKEN!

03-01-2012, 01:07 AM
This is a doodle I did in school and inked it when I got home, and I know there's a few obvious mistakes like the feathers, the scarf, some folds, his shoe, the leg closest to us, his wings/feathers, etc... I'll probably fix it up on Sai when I feel like it. Other than what I've already pointed out, is there anything that I missed?

03-01-2012, 01:56 AM
Ok...:monkey_sweaty: I need to start taking notes from your work ,Because these are really good drawings!:monkey_wow:
but no, other than the errors you pointed out I didnt see any others:monkey_lessee: (probably because I'm not even close to that level yet:monkey_dammit:)

03-01-2012, 08:38 PM
:cat_shy: Thank you~ You're on your way man! I started drawing when I was about your age (1-2 years ago) And look where I am now :cat_yeahright: There's still TONS I have to improve on, but I'll keep steadily moving on and as long as you keep practicing you can too~ ! :3

03-03-2012, 01:59 AM
My first attempt at using Sai exclusively XD

Aside from the lack of shine on the eye, is there anything I could improve/work on?

03-03-2012, 02:43 AM
Lookin good, but you should be careful with how and where you put gloss. I've never seen a pair of baggy pants that is glossy before. The leather gloves and the hair could be glossy, but they wouldn't give it of by circles of white. Rule of thumbs: circular highlight=>spherical objects, extreme value highlight=>very shiny material

I also realize just now that the leg has two joints.

Other than that; really good work!

03-03-2012, 04:16 AM
nice detail and colouring :D

03-03-2012, 12:33 PM
@Rubisko -- I was just trying something new that I picked up from here > http://curryuku.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-Coloring-Hair-260071007?q=boost%3Apopular%20((tutorial)%20AND%20 (by%3Acurryuku))&qo=1 (http://curryuku.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-Coloring-Hair-260071007?q=boost%3Apopular%20((tutorial)%20AND%20 (by%3Acurryuku))&qo=1) I found it useful, but I agree with you about the shine/gloss. I was just experimenting, trying to find a way that I like. :3

@Cloudy -- Thank you~ :D

04-09-2012, 01:28 AM
Ahhh.... Long time no post, eh? Hahaha.... Anywho, here's some sketches that I've done recently :3

Somethings that I drew this morning... http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/099/4/b/sketch_requests_uploaded_by_canime4ever-d4vku0g.jpg

The first two I drew today and the rest I drew maybe two weeks ago?http://th04.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2012/099/6/1/character_sketches_xd_by_canime4ever-d4vmq2w.jpg

Any input would be fantastic~! :D

04-11-2012, 11:07 AM
The 1 in the second pic and the 2 in the first pic....i love 'em Also this might be just me but it seems to me that in some of your drawings the legs are shorter then they should be. Just look out for it next time.....pretty awesome. :D

04-11-2012, 09:08 PM
Hey-o~! Got another pic for you guys to C&C
Just practicing my chibi style and playing with textures~If ya wanna check out the contest that I'm entering these guys in, here ya go :D http://crlyxx.deviantart.com/journal/Contest-Time-293736502http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/102/a/0/crlyxx__s_contest_entries__p_by_canime4ever-d4vy6h0.jpg

04-11-2012, 10:47 PM
Super cute!

04-11-2012, 11:42 PM
They are so adorable! I love the checkered scarf and the striped hat <3

04-29-2012, 08:33 PM
Hey... Long time no post... XD Thanks Sylux & Corastaur~ I'm only posting two pics so... yeah...
Hey, I'd like a little help designing an outfit for my OC Panya, think you could help :3? Just pick one of the four in this pic. I think my favorites are on the far sides, and if you don't like any, maybe give some pointers to make them better? http://www.mangatutorials.com/file/pic/photo/2012/04/canime4ever-panya_500.jpg?t=4f9dcde419f31
This one was posing practice, I know the left foot's a bit off, any other noticeable mistakes?

Thanks for viewing~ *On a side note, how do you change the forum title? I forgot @//@ and the title seems awkwardly formal, or just plain awkward XD

04-29-2012, 09:52 PM
The far left is deffs my fave!

One thing, in the second one, it seems like his left hand is a bit awkwardly angled. At that that point he would have been extremely uncomfortable. Try to make the shape roll a bit more, as that's sorta what hands do. Super duper cute!

To change the title, edit your original post. Click edit > advanced editor. :)

04-30-2012, 01:38 AM
I agree with Sylux, the outfit on the far left is the best (in my opinion)!

04-30-2012, 11:47 AM
Man that second one is amazingly cute. The shading looks really nice as well.

Also, I really like the first design. None of the others look like they'd fit the face.

05-01-2012, 11:03 PM
Your art is cute ;3

05-05-2012, 12:10 AM
Thanks so much guys~ Here's another pic to C&C :3

Crap. Forgot to color in the mouth XD

05-05-2012, 10:42 AM
Ehhhh, legs seem short maybe? Idk I don't know how to draw girls, lol, just burly men.

05-06-2012, 09:43 AM
Pretty darn good. Although i think that the perspective on the girl could have been a lot better. It seems as the upper body is in the most basic perspective, while the lower part (legs and feet) are is in the same perspective as the background. Also the feet don't match the asphalt....if you know what i mean. Also her left arm, the one in between the legs, is too long i think. Pretty good job. The cell shading is great! Also tell me did you do the bg and then just drew the character on it or did you use perspective lines on the character too?

05-08-2012, 12:59 AM
Thanks Sy & Ged~! I'd change it, but I HATE changing shiz when I'm done. I'll keep that in mind in my next pic though! Speaking of which, I'm having more trouble with perspective ORZ ZOMG ---HUGE--- file XD

Pretty much ignore the 1st pic & I know the foot in the last pic is WAAAYYY off, but pretend it looks decent, k? So out of the 2nd & 3rd pic which would you say is a better use of perspective if I'm wanting it to look like a screen shot from an anime or something... XD I also want to apologize for my awful hand writing...
