Deep philosophic undertones and a psychologically mind-bending plot.

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what's best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes
I want a girl with the right allocations
who is fast and thorough and sharp as a tack,
She is playing with her jewelry, she is putting up her hair
She is touring the facility and picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket

Exactly it's as if anime plots never leave the ballpark of a better than average csi episode

I'm pretty sure Heavenly Cyclone Tiger Fist could take it for a spin

Fine, I'll bite.

Something as good as the best works of classical literature and other types of film. The anime equivalent of Citizen Kane or Hamlet. Does the genre matter? No. Does it need to play with the viewer's perceptions (be psychologically mind-bending)? No. The latter - as Fenn probably doesn't realise - is a trapping of postmodern work. I think it's one of the least interesting trappings and one of the easiest to abuse.

Something I'd like to see explored is the concept of strange loops (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_loop), if we need to be postmodern. If not, something that lives up to the highest levels of critical analysis will suffice.

I'd still go with Jubeh and Hayashida playing baseball.

This may be a bit stange given that anime is Japanese, but an anime where the main characters don't interact socially/culturally etc., in a way that is obviously Japanese. It makes them harder to relate to, given that I'm not Japenese.

In a lot of anime I haven't found that troublesome or even noticeable most of the time. You don't need a very large understanding of Japanese culture to understand most of the cultural references made, particularly if you're watching a dub, where they actual go to some lengths to remove or interpret cultural differences. Subs also sometimes contain helpful notes. The whole style and tradition of storytelling in anime is rooted in Japanese culture, so if you took out all the Japanese cultural/social references you'd technically end up with Disney.

I dosn't really give me that much trouble either, but this is the perfect anime. For example, Hellsing and Vindland Saga, you can tell that that the characters don't interact in a Japensey fashion. Why is it that there are only two pillars of major cartoon industry, America and Japan, in the world? This is going off topic, sorry.

Edit: Jubeh that video's helarious!

But I like when it plays with the viewer's perceptions...*sheepishly kicks dust*

Thats cool but aside from a few notable exceptions a lot of japanese writers are terrible at it.

Fine, no psychological mind bending.

I would like our perfect anime to have very witty, intelligent scriptwriting.

jubeh
11-08-2011, 09:42 PM
That's the worst kind of scriptwriting

Fenn
11-08-2011, 09:43 PM
Can I clarify something? Are my interests in all forms of media and arts the exact kind of mainstream, ignorant views everyone here does NOT like?

That's the worst thing to clarify
