I'm the best one here. I go to other forums, and they say this site sucks.

ClockHand

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan...

I want a site like that to no go there.

CypressDahlia
10-03-2011, 07:05 PM
I talk to professionals like they're my peers, which makes me pro by association.

ClockHand
10-03-2011, 07:07 PM
I find other peoples critiques and art work pretty shitty, even so I don't give any worth critique and my art work is not that great either.

GunZet
10-03-2011, 07:07 PM
What's the point of using perspective lines if you don't even use them? Clock.

CypressDahlia
10-03-2011, 07:10 PM
I word simple critiques in complicated ways. B)

ClockHand
10-03-2011, 07:12 PM
I'm in a different art level.

(I always lol at that... is like there are level's of art xD)

Over 9,000.

CypressDahlia
10-03-2011, 07:16 PM
I draw simple things but then glorify them with terms like "anatomical representational". The word "doodle" is for plebeians.

10-03-2011, 07:17 PM
You guys are lame, I price one unoriginal piece of art colored with a brush tool in Photoshop like 90 bucks. Then I go brag about it and then laugh at disabled children.

ClockHand
10-03-2011, 07:18 PM
I always draw Warcraft low quality imitation, and brag about it.

GunZet
10-03-2011, 07:18 PM
Welp that was fun, I feel like drawing for Blizzard. How about you guys?

CypressDahlia
10-03-2011, 07:20 PM
That's nothing. I laugh at manga and only respect realism, even though I lack the anatomical knowledge and technical skill to draw either.

toast
10-03-2011, 07:20 PM
I'd rather draw of Luneder, the king of art.

Man. The one time we WANT you to be an art elitist and you don't want to? Someone's passive aggressive.

oh oh oh. Let's talk about perspective, even though I've never once used it in any drawing I've ever done. But I did read a book by a dead guy that mentions it.

CypressDahlia

Hey, guys, what the hell is "dynamics"? I thought all art should be done full-frontal with dead middle compositions.

ClockHand
10-03-2011, 07:41 PM
I have never read that in any of my books, and if my professionals books don't say something about it, then it's just a invent.

You all should learn the principles of composition. I will now draw you a poorly-shaded over stick figure to demonstrate my flawless knowledge of composition.

People think my art work is bad, but they just don't understand the theory behind it.

CypressDahlia
10-03-2011, 08:42 PM
I recommend methods of practice that don't help me at all. There is no demonstrable benefit to what I suggest. Furthermore, I lambast people for not taking my overly-convoluted and mostly irrelevant criticism, but I never bother to take theirs, hence my art never improves.

Sutari

People who draw for enjoyment and stress relief = art hippies. WHO MUST DIE.

CypressDahlia

You have to sell your soul to be pro, hence everything becomes serious and has no spiritual value.

A ranty letter to Lune:
Man...I liked you Lune.NO HOMO, I LIKED YOU! we shared some cool moments back on old GB. Also I was kinda proud that you started making money from your art. But whats all the bashing MT about man! I've been on MT since 2006, back then I was 16, and was in love with manga. I had dreams of becoming a big time manga artists. So, I started posting my art here and getting crits and advice. From those crits and advice I learned that making manga is a lot of freak'n work! And although I may like to draw, I don't always want to draw something if I HAVE to draw it. I slowly started to realize I didn't really want to make this my career.
Try to understand, not everyone on MT shares the same goals as you. Just because they want to get better at drawing doesn't always mean they are looking for a career. Progress of an artist is strictly dependent on THE ARTIST. You use the word "professional" alot, but you seem to forget there are different professions. You cant tell an artist what he should be unless he tells you what he wants to be.
And don't get me wrong, I understand your frustration. MT is far less active then it was before, and this really limits the crits you get. But that doesn't mean you need to bash the website man. I've learned a lot here and have gotten to know a lot of artists here, so when you bash MT its like your bashing my family... If you don't like MT stay off or help out. bottom line. Why are you so bitter? is It a single persons fault? why take it out on all MT? Not cool man.

A very disappointed~

Blue_Dragon
10-03-2011, 11:26 PM
Man, when I took life drawing, we got some pretty young girls, but the men were all very old.

And then... I swear, one of the old guys I worked with! We had to approach each other nonchalant and see if we were still cool. I felt bad for him! But he's pretty awesome.

*awkward*

I don't think life drawing is the same as porn, unless your instructor is having them do the deed while you draw.

Hey, guys, I've arranged a day for all of us to sit outside and do entirely boring and creatively stifling art exercises. ^I skipped class to read this thread. Nice, Clock. (Also, you're the last person in the world I expected to make an OVER 9000 reference)

All of you are immature. Real artists don't talk about sex. We who have artistic genes running through our blood (unlike you childish manga "artists") only talk about subject matter that is relevant to our studies. Oh, well. I suppose you children don't have the superior genetics required to understand me. I shall explain anyway:

1. As has been stated, the very concept of manga is immature. Only children and short-sighted teenagers would draw such rubbish. If you don't draw realism, you will never be good. You will never even be average. Do not pursue beauty, as beauty is not realistic. Pursue only form.
2. Elaborating on a previous point, it is foolish to speak of subjects irrelevant to art. While genes are the deciding factor in all artistic success, unless you turn out at least ten sketches of meaningful objects per day, you will never become a true artist. This is impossible unless you clear your mind of useless things like sex, entertainment, and sleep.
3. A forum of amateur artists will amount to nothing. Amateurs cannot help amateurs. They only serve to drag each other down. It's bad enough to have a forum devoted to petty manga. Even if one person manages to break away from the constraints of such an overused style, he will only be dragged down by the ignorant members of the community.
4. All of your avatars show no artistic merit. They must be exerts from the notes of famous artists. Your signatures must be quotes from famous artists as well. If your avatar is animated, remove it.
5. Do not attempt to join our elite community until you yourself are elite. We WILL push you back and discourage you in any way we can. If you can't draw a perfect scale model of the ceiling of the Sisteen Chapel, leave.

I realize now that all I can explain will be futile, as it would be impossible for any of you to understand the nature of real art. You're too preoccupied with that horrid anime style. However, if any of you do carry artistic genes, you might just be able to become elite if you stop right now and never draw a single anime-style picture again.

Funny thing is I've seen almost all of what I wrote on elitist forums.

Yep. You hit the proverbial "nail on the head" Cype. Some of yous guys posting on this thread could be working right now. But, like me I'd wager you just love so magna so much that you're happy doing it for the hell of it.Work be damned. I'm working only because it's been my dream ever since I can remember &, I'm actually doing card game illustration...not managa. I like to think that manga is just as credible of an art form as any other so-called "fine art" form.

I studed (breifly) at Ringling School of Art & Design. At the time, the Illustration program was trying to push it's students towards doing "fine art". Suffice it to say, I only wanted to sharpen my skills for manga & got into it with my proffessors often. You know...doing shit like...drawing manga faces on my figure studies...manga chararcters for 3D diesign. Ultimately, I dropped out and never looked back, except in missing the figure studies...which I can do on my own at the community center anyways. Now, Ringling...like most other art schools...HAVE manga & anime progams. What that guy said was crap.

I don't have enough focus to do commissioned work. Even when I work on my own ideas, I get tired of it within 2-3 hours. It took me a month to finish a commission for a forum member here (Bacon) and an hour to finish the actual picture.

Prick mode on:

If you get tired of your work after such a short time, you will never be a good artist. Why don't you and all your manga buddies just give up now?

Being serious now:

I generally dislike elitists, but ever since my experiences on ConceptArt, I've had two feelings that I just can't shake no matter how hard I try:
1. These people are pricks.
2. These pricks might be right.

I'm not quite as keen on shaking that first point, but I don't think I'll ever be able to draw like I used to if that second point keeps bugging me.

I'm not talking about the entire CA community here. A few of them (I only remember Shinin, but there were more) were extremely helpful and I'm very grateful for their critiques. If everybody on that forum was like Shinin, I would still be there.

I can't say that my mood wouldn't go down after reading the harsh critique.......BUT HELL!!!! If it weren't those then i wouldn't go forward. And its kinda hard to make out if my friends at school are just kidding and telling me that a drawing needs bigger boobs( they can't draw stick figures and don't even know some of the major bones) or are they real, cuz a few times the things they said, made sense(but they still didn't even realize the characteristics of women body's). So i decided that no matter what anyone says, be it a toddler or a man that has absolutely no idea of drawing, that no matter what......i would listen to them.......listen and remember. Yesterday i went to a comic con, here in Belgrade, and there was a bunch of people that were pro's and they came to me and started watching me draw...........15 pages and 15 drawings/sketches away they always had somethingto add, and tell me what was bad.........and i compared everyones statemants, and it really helped.

good lord....................................why am i taking this so serrios...............................Well to finish, i wouldn't mind Lunard guy coming to my thread and ASS-CRITIQUING_FUCKING my thread OFF......(would probably feel down for a minute or two) and then i would see what makes sense. . . . .

Good criticism is always good. But the difference between good criticism and elitism is that elitism follows this one rule: "to be a pro, you have to act like a pro." And, for that reason, we have guys like Luneder and synnworld pushing the "pro mentality" whereas solid advice on how to improve, as opposed to how to behave, is far more appreciated. The thing is, you don't have to behave a certain way to be good.

I think people get wrapped up in the idea of trying to imitate pros instead of building a pro-level skill set. We have synnworld talking about composition before he can even draw a decent human body. And Luneder talking about perspective when he hasn't gotten past simple 3/4 pan shots. You can act and talk like a pro all you want, but if you aren't building the proper knowledge there is no point. You are no closer to being pro than the rest of us. Building knowledge can be done in many different ways and acting like you already have it is not one of them.

Exactly. Honestly, I don't give a single solitary fuck about my art, yet in the time I've been on MT, I have improved a lot. At least, I think so. And how did I improve? Drawing whatever the hell I want whenever the hell I want and taking good criticisms when they come to me. I'm not gonna let someone tell me when, how and what to draw, but I will let them advise me on how what I drew could be better.

But in my head its *F'em* If he wants to act big, and all of you guys know he ain't big then f'him. And as for the people that he says to leave and find better pastures to chew on critiques, let them leave if they don't think our's help them enough.

ClockHand
10-04-2011, 06:55 PM
Be critique against the critiques. Which mean, don't swallow every critique, take from it under your criteria what do you believe can reinforce your skills and make you better.

Every critique is biased, as every opinion, so you need to think over your work and others people comments.

Yep. You can draw vases and fruit all day, but if you aren't going to become a professional vase/fruit painter, then what good is it. Do what helps you accomplish what you want to accomplish. The best thing to do is ask for REDLINES in terms of anatomy. Though I often tell people to do anatomy studies if their anatomy is way off, if it is subtle errors, then the best thing to do is redline. That way, that person can automatically register the redline as a mental rule: "the arm should look this way in this position from this angle"

You could be drawing arms from references for weeks before you figure that out on your own. Plain, simple advice, is the best way. If it can be SHOWN instead of written out, even better.
