Put together a writing portfolio consisting of the two paragraph assignments we finished, and the two essays we did. All of which I got A's on.

And for art, we get to do whatever we want, anyway we want, however we want.

Life's pretty good.

Then I have four labs due for that class next week anyway. Then for anatomy lecture, I have a 100-question test. For sociology, I have TWO exams, and for English, I have a paper and a written test due.

64%.

Bacon. This isn't high school. o_______o

Bacon_Barbarian
12-05-2011, 08:40 PM
Only a difference of twenty questions. If both teachers are of equal caliber (not proficiency in the subject, teaching ability) , it shouldn't be that much of a difference. Depends on how helpful the teacher is when telling you what to study I guess...

Celestial-Fox
12-05-2011, 11:10 PM
No.

I said that the average score was 64%. We learn a LOT in that class. On day one, we learned 163 terms. Multiply that by a whole semester worth of classes.

What I'm getting at is that this is an entirely different kind of class that what you took for yours--ergo, it is objectively harder because the material is both copious and complex.

Bacon_Barbarian
12-05-2011, 11:13 PM
Eh ... I think we're both exaggerating. A bit anyway ... Is the test curved?

Celestial-Fox
12-05-2011, 11:29 PM
... I wish I was exaggerating? Anatomy and Physiology is known for being one of the most--if not the most--difficult entry-level classes at the university. I'm the only one in my class taking it an an elective, and in the first week both my professors for lab and lecture advised me to consider dropping the class and choosing something else as an elective because of the course difficulty. (Someone got a 20% on our last exam and was sobbing.)

And no. Nothing in any of my classes is curved.

Celestial-Fox
12-06-2011, 12:58 AM
Right now I've got a high B. It's... enhh, it's o-kay? I notice that I hold onto information a little better than others, and I can see why the class average hovers around failing. I study pretty hard for exams, though. One guy has the same grade as me and listens to recordings of the lectures several hours every day.

Another class would have been far, far, far less stressful, though. D:

butternut
12-06-2011, 01:23 AM

My finals? I have to make a report and a presentation of what all I did throughout the semester, with the results and discussions and conclusions and all, and the presentation is tomorrow. Gulp.

Bacon did you take AP World History last year?

Bacon_Barbarian
12-06-2011, 04:45 PM
We don't have an AP World History. These are our options:

Freshman: Geography and Government
Sophomore: US History (Only if you're not taking APUSH)
Junior: APUSH
Senior: World History or AP European (only if you've taken APUSH)

Sylux
12-06-2011, 05:25 PM
Oh damn so you haven't taken an AP test before? Yeah, man, it's brutal. You really wanna buy a complete study guide for the exam and memorize all 400+ pages of it, seriously. I got a 4/5 and I had the highest grade and was the most knowledgeable guy in our entire grade. But, you don't retain any of this shit. I learned that over the summer. I'm gonna drop out of AP classes after this year, since I'm just going to go to Community College of San Jose and then transfer over to SJSU, so I don't have to have stellar high school classes and grades for CC. Unless you wanna go straight into Uni, you might want to do the same unless you really like the workload and think you learn more in AP than you can by just reading a bunch of books.

Celestial-Fox
12-06-2011, 05:55 PM
My English professor called me out in the middle of class about the paper I turned in, haha. "SOME PEOPLE--" she looks at me "--I expect MORE from them; they're good writers. THEY DISAPPOINTED ME."

Everyone just laughed.

I wonder if this schoolwork has any meaning. It doesn't give me tools. It doesn't inspire me. It really doesn't make me want to do extraordinary things. I'm reminded of the following quote by Schopenhauer, later stolen by Stirner:

"However, for the man who studies to gain insight, books and studies are merely rungs of the ladder on which he climbs to the summit of knowledge. As soon as a rung has raised him up one step, he leaves it behind. On the other hand, the many who study in order to fill their memory do not use the rungs of the ladder for climbing, but take them off and load themselves with them to take away, rejoicing at the increasing weight of the burden. They remain below forever, because they bear what should have bourne them."

On a similar note, I got into a debate with a neo-Marxist teacher about whether morality was of use and whether collective will is meaningful.

Bacon_Barbarian
12-06-2011, 06:35 PM
And how did that go?

Afrobit
12-06-2011, 08:17 PM
Take the AP classes even if you're going to a community college. Got over a semester's worth of classes out of the way. It saved me quite a bit of money. The tests really aren't too hard like people make them out to be. The only thing I found hard was the English multiple choice because there really isn't a right or wrong answer. The thing to remember while taking the exam is to not get lazy.

My roommate has a 15 page paper to do today. She says that once she's done that, she just has her one final to study for. So when she told me this, I decided to list off the various things I still had to do: a 3-4 page in-depth journal about my volunteer experience using references, a paragraph response on a forum (which takes like 2 minutes), a teaching resume, a take home final for Japanese, a complete word-for-word translation of a story in Ilocano, and a dictionary project for Ilocano. My roommate then looked at me for a bit, said "Good luck", and went back to her room.

Uh. Can I just say that I live in a dorm and there are four different rooms in my dorm suite? You walk into the dorm building and come to our front door in the hall. Then when you open our dorm door there's a living room, two bathrooms, a storage room, and four bedrooms. Each of us have our own bedrooms, but they are my roommates. We have to sign a roommate agreement at the beginning of the semester.

Don't beat yourself up on the semantics, people.

Okay, bacon, you can call it a dorm suite if you want. Back when I was in dorms, we just called it "the dorm". But then, you did have to share a room with someone, which was kinda lame. I'd rather have a room to myself.

Celestial-fox, I used to live in a dorm like that, too, when I went to a different university. Certainly not the GREATEST year of my life...

Repetitions doesn't work. Its about weight or speed, repetitions has nothing to do in here. If you want to get muscles you need weight, slow repetitions and every round weight increment (and decrease the repetitions of the round). If you want to get fit (compact muscles), you need speed, quick and short repetitions (plenty).

Also if you are going to lift weights, do it with someone who knows, you don't want to over train muscles or train muscles that eat others.
