Since this has been going on for a bit, I took it upon myself to make a thread.

Talk about your favourite superhero(ine) and why, whether it be from Marvel or DC or whatever. Also, talk about your least favourite superhero(ine) and why.

Favorite of Marvel: Spiderman, cuz he is freaking awesome, I love the dicotomy between Peter Parkers personality and Spiderman's, because he has a bitter life but he always has a good joke to say, and because is a better version of Batman (Batman lost his parents and he lost his head for revenge, Peter lost his uncle Ben, and now he try to be a better man. Now, who is the kid?)

Favorite of DC: Sandman, I know that he is not a super hero (technically), but he is freaking awesome, and the entire universe made by Gaiman is fucking awesome to.

Favorite of Dark Horse: Hellboy, because Mignola is a freaking awesome artist.

Less favorite of Marvel: Squirl Girl.

Less favorite of DC: Silver Age Superman.

Rogue. Just an unfortunate person that has to overcome allot that is more her own mental hangups than her physical ones.

batman beyond, terry. I really like his personality and he's so freaking awesome in all the way! his opponents are far too strong but he's like a cockroach that still survives and still wins in the end!!
I really like him better than bruce in his younger days(but i'm not saying that i don't like bruce, i just like terry better)

Superman's the best. Arguably one of the most human dc characters which is ironic since he's an alien. He has every reason to just take over the world and he totally could do it but he doesn't because he believes in being a good person.

I think anyone that would argue that Superman is "overpowered" believes that comics are about fighting. That's the mindset that has kept the medium in a rut for so long. There are all kinds of conflicts. While it's true bad writers will try to write Superman incorrectly, the same could be said for any character.

I mean in All Star Superman he becomes thousands of times stronger and becomes immune to kryptonite yet it is arguably one of the greatest comics ever written. It doesn't matter if you can lift a bus if your girlfriend can make you feel like shit with one sentence.

My favorite superman moment is from All Star Superman:

When his father dies from a heart attack and he realizes its not possible for him to save everyone

http://forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/All%20Star%20Superman%20pa%20kent%20dies%20Morriso n%20Quitely.jpg

I love batman but if you want to talk about an OP character it is him. Prepared for anything, and if it's a problem he can't solve he can invent something or use money to solve it.

Best villain is Black Adam, hands down.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/5c/Black_Adam_Filmation.jpg/220px-Black_Adam_Filmation.jpg

In World War 3 he fights every secondary superhero in the DC Universe and holds his own until Captain Marvel shows up.

I like IronMan. Well, actually, nevermind. I fail this thread because IronMan isn't actually a superhero. He doesn't have superpowers. But that's probably why I like him.

IronMan is the only super hero that justify using a costume (and also he doesn't use his underwear outside).

IronMan is the only super hero that justify using a costume (and also he doesn't use his underwear outside).

Exactly. He's like a smarter version of Batman. The thing is: Bruce Wayne and Stark are similar characters as far as their standing in their respective universes. They're both incredibly smart, incredibly rich and have plenty of resources to exploit. Yet Tony Stark is the one who was smart enough to go: "hey, let me use all of this great stuff to build an awesome power suit that makes me extremely strong, capable of flight, nigh invincible and can shoot lasers." Bruce Wayne is still playing with batarangs.

ClockHand
09-05-2011, 11:23 PM
Naa, Tony Stark is also way more egocentric, he is alcoholic and he want to be both: IronMan and Tony Stark at the same time, while Bruce Wayne sacrifice one to be the other.

CypressDahlia
09-05-2011, 11:26 PM
Well, yeah, personality wise they're very different. Bruce is a hardened vigilante and Stark is joyriding in a mech suit. But in terms of status they're the same. So that's why I wonder where Wayne's flying super armor is. It would make his job a helluva lot easier.

jubeh
09-05-2011, 11:26 PM
Batman has built numerous robot suits. The difference in power levels between their universes dictate why he doesn't just always wear one. Also, you know, the costume is p iconic. I believe the batman beyond suit has a bunch of robot shit going on in it.

Also in all seriousness people bitch about silver-age superman but if you read the first crisis you'd see that he got his ass handed to him on every page. The only person he managed to beat was ultraman and that was just because that dude was retarded.

Best villain is Black Adam, hands down.

Now see jubeh...Black Adam's my favorite hero. Yes, I said hero. He was a member of Justice Society America from issues 6 through 45...when Theo (not Khem or Teth like in the older Capt. Marvels or Marvel Familys published by Golden Key).

Why? He is, without question, one of the most powerful heroes or villians in the DC universe but he's so missunderstood . I mean the guy was the wizard Shazam's first choice for Capt. Marvel after all. There must've been something honorable in him that the wizard saw. Sure, he became corrupted by all that power. But he got better. He even stood trail & was aquitted for killing the [puny] Batsons. He's a warrior thouroughly to the core.
This frightens people because he's very powerful. But he's pretty smart too & a natural born leader. In 52, he marries the godess Isis & forms a nation. People don't like any of this because his past & were constantly giving him a hard time. To a warrior who feels he has paid for past crimes this is dishonorable. Then his wife dies & non of the so called heroes of the DC universe seem to want to help him avenge her.

That's when all hell breaks loose. They strip his powers from him, seize control of his country & make him a wanted man. he overcomes all of this & tries to ressurect Isis & suceeds but doesn't know it because Faust was his unwanted accomplice & had his own plans for the goddess.

Then World War III. He kicks everybody's booties all over the world.

Okay, the guy's a little extreme...but he's been through a lot.

If you read the mini that was written after world war 3 where they tried to justify his committing genocide and you still think he is a hero then I do not know what to tell you.

Also I dont need a play by play I actually read comics.

Edit: Whoa new penny arcade comic is surprisingly relevant. Also looking forward to new 52.

Yeah, Batman has built robot suits (and also built the Beyond one). But has he built the IRON MAN suit, is what I'm saying. Instead of building numerous single-application disposable tinfoil suits, just build the one you will wear for the rest of your life and consistently kick ass in. Batman's best suit, by far, was the Beyond getup and even then, it didn't measure up to an iota of the Iron Man's capabilities. It still required Terry to do much of the work.

I don't disagree that the suit is iconic, though.

jubeh

Im sure he could I mean do you remember the security robots from infinite crisis. Batman is stupidly powerful when the writers want him to be.

I realy prefer rooftop hopping detective batman though. He's much cooler to me when it's just him and supes in the picture.

Also I dont need a play by play I actually read comics.

My apologies. But he's my favorite character & I get excited talking about him. I didn't say he was right in the head though. In fact, I catually thought World War III was a bit anticlimatic. See here's the thing. He's both to me. My favorite hero & villian. Possibly for the same reasons too. I've allways wondered why heroes as powerful as Superman, Capt. Marvel, Supreme, Icon & the like don't become overwhelmed by all that raw power & flip out more often. In Black Adam, I see...& this is merely personal opinion...a more realistic scenario played out with that much power in their hands. If I was that powerful I would most certainly filp out.

CypressDahlia

That's what bothers me. He //could// but he doesn't. I guess it just doesn't make sense to me.

And yeah. I bet you liked Arkham Asylum, then? I do appreciate Batman for what he is. It's just that it doesn't make sense when compared to other types like him.

@Brack Shaggie

Genocide black shaggie. Motherfucking genocide. If hitler joined the jsa I would still think wow that guy's a douche.

After killing all those people he graduated from anti-hero to villain. DC effectively broke him. I mean the fight was cool and all but after a dude kills millions of middle easterners he's crossed too far into villain territory.

@Cype

AA was cool if not way too reliant on gadgets. That's the thing I dislike about batman the most. If I were to write him I'd get him as far away from james bond as possible.

Black_Shaggie
09-05-2011, 11:44 PM
^-----Okay, okay. You got me. lol The character is broken & Ican't justfy him killing all those innocents & still call him a hero.
You gotta admitt though he's one of the coolest characters out there.

If I can't pick Black Adam as my favorite hero (with reason & logic) then I'd have to say that Kevin Matchstick from Mage would be my 2nd pick. That was just a really cool story.

Anybody ever read that Kingdon Come? I think that an old Bruce Wayne in that story did employ some bat-robots to seize Gotham City in martial law right? I think bats uses the proper amount of force needed for whatever task is at hand.

jubeh
09-05-2011, 11:47 PM
I think those are the same security robots I was talking about. I don't remember the proper order those comics went in.

Edit: Black adam's the best he just suffered from bad writing. 52 turned him into this amazing multi-dimensional dude and then WW3 turned him back into a straight up monster.

It should be more detective + mcgiver (less tool, more creativity).

Black_Shaggie
09-05-2011, 11:53 PM
I have a hardbound edition with the whole thing. See, bat's 'super power' isn't his training or his toys really. It's his knack for tactiacl planning & contengcy.

jubeh
09-05-2011, 11:54 PM
It should be more detective + mcgiver (less tool, more creativity).

Really it just needs to be less fantasy technology and more practical military/police style gadgets and stuff. Dark Knight was pretty close in that sense.

Edit: Obviously it doesnt work in the crossover comics because technology has just advanced way too far in the DCU.

CypressDahlia
09-06-2011, 12:02 AM
I think Batman needs a few fantasy gadgets in his arsenal. His villains are pretty outrageous. Clayface? That guy is just a very unfortunate villain who gets defeated by plot setups and being in the wrong place at the wrong times. If he was just a bit luckier (ie. the millions of other scenarios that wouldn't lead to his demise), Batman would've been doomed.

jubeh
09-06-2011, 12:08 AM
Idk man there were like 90 clayfaces

CypressDahlia
09-06-2011, 12:13 AM
Yeah and each of them gets more broken. They all just happen to be defeated due to some stroke of bad luck or because the exact things needed to defeat them just happen to be around.

So I'm deciding what DCnU comics to get in to. Probably going to go with

Superman/Action Comics
Detective Comics or Batman and Robin
Nightwing (for sure)

Im considering Flash too since the preview pages look fucking rad. Its cool that they're going to do Birds of Prey also.

The first Hellboy movie was where it shoulda ended.

ClockHand
09-10-2011, 08:01 PM
The deal with the Hellboy's movies as I see them, it's that the first movies try to introduce to many things to the audience (origin of hellboy, relationship between characters, world war II, Nazi's and black magic, story of Rasputin, etc) and even more use Rasputin who is a mayor enemy in the comics, this is like throwing a Superman movie where the villain is Doomsday (and you also have to introduce everything else).

Even more the story with Rasputin in the comic's is built up around different sagas on the comic, so is not something you can throw in one movie. For my it fails because the first Hellboy movie was trying to show to much, explain to much and do to much, delivering something pretty weak.

The comic's are way better, I love how they mix folklore with sci-fi, and you can easily drop at any story of Hellboy and you don't feel like you miss something important (maybe the introduction of some characters, but they even tell you where to read that story in the same comic).
