Dangit, Kodos! XD But wow, that's really awesome for 30 minutes. I like the teeth. 30 minutes in Photoshop generally gets me nowhere. OTL
08-20-2011, 04:27 PM
So you CAN draw!!!! And i say its quite good!

08-20-2011, 07:33 PM
thats very.. intresting picture you have there..
08-20-2011, 08:22 PM
Lol that reminded me of Oblivion for some reason. Well we can;t really say whats wrong since there is nothing to compare this too, but if its just for personal preferences, i would make a smaller left ear/fin/thing.
pretty nice sylux! don't really know where to critique cause i don't know how zbrush works.
gunzet is probably the only expert here when it comes to zbrush.
but really thats so heck awesome dude!!
08-21-2011, 02:59 AM
I hatehateHATE how I don't know how to critique 3D because I have NO clue how it works. I like the texture on it a lot, though. I'm not sure if it's possible, though, but I think perhaps the eyeball could be further... rounded (?) so it's not so flat.
08-21-2011, 08:58 PM
Yeah, I pretty much just painted it on... Heheheeeeeeee~...

11-02-2011, 07:09 PM
Hmmm, I really like these. What are they from ... or are they OCs? The only complaint that I have at first glace in that all of your guys have giant barrel-chests (except maybe that last one).
11-02-2011, 07:16 PM
Ya! Shaved head guy (and same guy wearing a hoodie) is Captain <Player_Name> Aergad. No names yet for anyboody else except the savage, her name is SagiAAAAAAAA
11-02-2011, 07:35 PM
A few of them are a little too blurred. I'm no expert, but I think I could help here on this one; Take it as a rough guide only. But jawlines are never going to be this 100% perfect triangle. I know a lot of anime's draw them that way, but you will never find someone with a triangular face XD. You can taper, but it won't be perfect triangle.
Of course, my way is in no way the A-way to do it, it's just a suggestion from experience :3
11-02-2011, 07:46 PM
Yeah, I wanted to go for the more accurate representation of that particular anime character since it was a request from a guy on here. Thanks for the redline! I hadn't even realized how long his n

You be comicking Sketti?
11-02-2011, 07:50 PM
11-03-2011, 10:48 PM
well, let me comment on the first guy... it looks like a bleach character... Ichigo Kurosaki in Vizard mode, to be exact. If so, the narrowness of the chin is ok, but his jaw should be straighter, like in the redline drawing. Also reffereance the eyebrows on Ichigo, he's always pissed... and the skull mask on the costume needs weight.. it looks like it's floating....

12-02-2011, 06:07 PM
I wanna see you dE:$%!|
12-02-2011, 09:38 PM
D: D: But I'ld like to see it as a 3D model too!
Though, honestly, I think the style of this is pretty awesome, too. The little lights are nice.

Sweet monster... all I can suggest is that his abdomen muscles seem uneven.. The second row from the top is thicker than the rest making it look odd.
also, the man nipples are lopsided.
sorry but other than that, it looks cool!
12-04-2011, 11:57 PM
Is that like a tapeworm head. :O
12-06-2011, 03:27 PM
*warning: interrupted stream*
12-06-2011, 03:34 PM
I .... Ewwww ... What is that for? o.O
(Is good though.)
12-06-2011, 03:37 PM
It's for Jaittaceti's game Astral. Its whole focus is basically on Cthuvian dreams and the willingness of the human mind to endure fear and defeat at the hands of the god Cthulhu, though the name Cthulhu is never once mentioned; it is only implied that he has awakened from his dreams and has invaded yours by the massive floodings, tentacle monsters, and seafaring themes. The biggest hint, though, is that it takes place in Germany: a landlocked country in the smack middle of Europe. We're going to try to make the player feel this need to continue by placing comforting environments throughout the varyingly intense game, with frequent breaks from parts that are just too scary.
12-06-2011, 04:12 PM
Sounds cool, dude. Though, Germany isn't really landlocked...
12-06-2011, 04:36 PM
Sure you got der Nordsee und die Ostsee but that's really it. Not enough for flooding up to the 10th floor of a building, unless it's Cthulhu's doing
12-06-2011, 04:47 PM
Well no, but ... Yeah, sounds cool man. Now post another cool monster thing so that this page isn't just you and I chatting.
12-08-2011, 08:35 PM
12-08-2011, 10:25 PM
first of all, I would like to give Koodos on your accenting the privates. Spread a little joy with that one (made me laugh)
however I feel the legs seem a little too closed. I don't think they should cross that much, but rather taper to the centre (clearly depicted by the vag) but never passing it.
As for the head, I suggest a softer curve in the shaddowing arround the middle eye.
hope this helps
12-09-2011, 06:11 PM
Um it's a monster dude I can fuck up its anatomy however I want.
12-10-2011, 03:13 AM
Okay so I hope Kodos doesn't see this. I wanna surprise him with it, but I need advice on her anatomy and outfit while it's still in sketch mode. Here's the doodle:
12-10-2011, 02:08 PM
Well as far as anatomy goes id say that the thighs are too thick, and that the arms are too thin. Really like the hat............if it is a hat anyway....
12-10-2011, 05:36 PM
Thanks! I upsized the arms and downsized the thighs a bit.
12-12-2011, 08:46 PM
The thighs are a good size in the original and you downsized them? People always hating on big thighs...GED -COUGH- they look about the same anyway.
I LIKE it's really good, I think you should draw more like this :)
12-12-2011, 09:12 PM
Oh frick man I didn't expect to actually get any comments on this one @_@ thanks man
12-13-2011, 01:12 AM
Man, why don't you ever put effort into pieces you make for me? What is this man? WHAT IS THIS?
It's good btw. The drawing.
12-13-2011, 02:31 AM
the headdress is awesome I keep staring at it ^^;
I also really like the pale blue lighting its more fun brighter more typical lights.
12-31-2011, 06:41 PM
@jaidurn: I'll cut u up so baaaad nagger
@spidergoth: Thanks bro it's based off a few real Aztec headdresses

12-31-2011, 08:58 PM

Yes Blue she's a Cthuvian-based creature concept for a video game.

03-07-2012, 03:03 PM
Thanks for all the comments guys.
Anyways I'm working on an RPG using RPGMaker VX featuring MT users as prime characters. I think Kodos is more or less accurate except maybe he could use a few more inches of muscle cuz he's just that good of a wizard. Toast is prolly dead on and Cloudy I just judged by her previous avatar and her old Aion character. Caption reads: Greatish Wonder: Kodos-Magnificent, The Wise and All-Mighty Superpowerful Omega-Lord Ubermegamorphosis Good-Nice Ultranatural.
03-07-2012, 03:29 PM
I had to just post here to say the Toast is EPIC.
03-07-2012, 03:31 PM
Thanks she's a rogue btw it's Toast's own depiction of herself
work on le arms!
but you have a really cool style and interesting ideas!!! your very detailed artist aren't ya?
03-08-2012, 08:57 AM
LOL that's awesome <3
I really like rpg maker, especially XP
03-08-2012, 02:35 PM
Oh snap maybe I'll try XP and thank u, Shu, I really appreciate it :)
03-08-2012, 04:10 PM
I've messed around with VX and XP myself a little... Definitely XP is the better one, even if VX is potentially a bit more powerful - there's a new version being translated to English currently though, that is reportedly an improvement on both. In terms of scripts and things there's not a lot going for it right now, but a lot of the more popular ones seem to be in the process of a port. Might be worth holding off it until it's released in English - unless you've already done a lot of work.
Looking forward to seeing your game in any case!
03-08-2012, 09:51 PM
Oh, thank you! We're still in the writing stage, so RPG Maker VX Ace is a must-have for our project! In fact, we may just release it for iOS and Android products! Thank you guys. Comments like these really mean a lot to me and encourage me to try and do even cooler stuff!
03-13-2012, 11:22 AM
I like your faces especially those of old men......i am weird....anyways. You've got good ideas and bad proportions. One thing that is noticeable is that you (like i used to :D ) draw loooooong skinny people with small hands. Id work on that.

03-15-2012, 08:21 PM
03-15-2012, 08:22 PM

03-15-2012, 09:59 PM
Lol u will be a sheriff
03-16-2012, 12:53 AM
RPG Maker VX Ace is the latest one. I have no idea what more it does.
Anyway, I'd love to play an RPG and use a piece of toast in combat. You should post a demo or alpha build sometime.
03-22-2012, 09:24 AM

03-30-2012, 06:55 PM
Naw they're gonna be pretty small. Like this small.
03-30-2012, 07:08 PM
Show us both from now on. You can never tell what thing s will look like at different zooms. Those still look good though.

04-09-2012, 02:25 AM
shyeeeeeeeet even a host?
04-09-2012, 02:42 AM
being a host is annoying because you gotta talk with people all the time even tho you dont want to. also you'll probably have to run food and stuff so be prepared to be on your feet for hours at a time. though I guess it depends on the restaurant.
04-09-2012, 02:53 AM
04-09-2012, 03:14 AM

04-28-2012, 04:37 PM
I'm running out of patience.
04-28-2012, 07:28 PM
I really dig the second ones expression man.
04-28-2012, 09:23 PM
I have regained some patience.
Without the tattoos, this is realistically what I will look like in November. And hell who knows, maybe I'll get some tattoos to celebrate things.
04-28-2012, 11:24 PM
I am losing patience.
04-29-2012, 02:31 AM
did you study the rules before you broke them? and why are you losing patience?
Edit: reffering to the pic u said u would look like. will you really be that built?
04-29-2012, 11:07 AM
What rules did I break? O_o
Yes. I'm going to military school for 22 weeks, from July-November. I'll be living there, eating their food, and practising their PT regimines. Bear in mind that after week 2, these turn into standard military boot camp regimines, minus the intensity of the drill instructor. Also keep in mind that standard USMC basic is 12 weeks. We will be keeping their training for 20.
04-29-2012, 08:55 PM
='s mean full to that point, -'s mean empty to that point. |'s are edges of the meter.
I was bored, so I illustrated a scene from Crusades: The Hero of Solusod. I guess it's called "Rescue Jai" or something.
04-29-2012, 11:09 PM
Decided to do another illustration. These are serious spoilers now that I think about it.
I should totes be a fashion designer.
In the game your character becomes a fugitive, or you do, really, you criminal. Since there's no photography, the only identifiable piece of information the authorities really have are the clothing you're wearing at the time of last confirmed sighting. So when you visit a new area, you change clothes, since... ...you only change areas after you battle a general, who are, for all intents and purposes, our authorities.
04-30-2012, 01:51 AM
Make me more illustrations, man. These are looking pretty rad. I wouldn't mind if you weren't grounded and did them digitally and got them all nice and clean.
04-30-2012, 02:02 AM
Yeah well I wouldn't mind getting more comments to encourage me to do these things. I'm not a man to do super cool stuff to not show it off and expect people to wow at it.
Drawing anthropomorphic ponies because I'm so lonely always.
04-30-2012, 02:14 AM
I just LOVE your style!
04-30-2012, 02:33 AM
Holy shit I got a comment. Jesus, you really don't know how much this means to me! Sure, jaidurn is sincere when he says he likes my work, but I just feel invalid having just 3-4 people saying my work is good. Thank you so much, here, have another drawing. An old one, but I never uploaded it.
05-01-2012, 02:53 AM
your style is more.... hm, i don't know. stylised? then u would typically see and it shows more personality. thats cool :)
answering what i said before, this could just be part of how youn draw, but have you ever learned proper anatomy?
proportions get really important when drawing cartooons and manga, and as u draw alot of curvy girls, good anatomy might make them even better.
05-01-2012, 08:17 AM
Yeah that drawing of myself was pretty non-proportional. I was generally drawing out of fury and pride so, heh, not much regard for rules.
05-01-2012, 03:32 PM
your style is cool.
05-02-2012, 04:21 AM
@sy: fury and pride sound like a good mix for inspirational drawings(:3). and u also have that whole anarchy thing, so ur respect 4 the rules is probably not huge. general advice for drawing any thing living though is: learn the rules before you break 'em. it gives a better understanding of movement and makes characters look more lifelike. plus when drawing monsters, if you know where all the fat and muscles is, than you can make 'em look really creepy :D
05-04-2012, 12:13 PM
You can tell which ones he rushed through it just by looking at the lines, that's fine though I think its good to do art for fun, the emotions on the faces are really cool ...hmm you have a fondness for girls with tattoos where the hip meets the side of the waist.
05-06-2012, 08:52 AM
So you hate hands and feet eh? XD
SOme of the earlier ones are FUCKING EPIC SLY!!!! Seriousnsly some of the first illustrations you did are pretty frickin good! But one thing that bugs me ( so friicking much!( cuz if it weren't there it would be a GREAT QPIC PIECE!!! )) is that you have great anatomy but for some reason you completly forsake the hands and feet. Also the proportions are off in some pics. Like the singer/rocker dud is GREAT!!! but his arms get smmaler and smmaler as you progres to his hands. The same as the busty lady below. Great anatomy great pose....smal arms......even smaller forearms.....such small hands. Serriosly i think if you just worked on your proportions you would be 10 times as good as now!!!
05-10-2012, 05:34 PM
@Almanac: Thanks! I work pretty hard to try to be a bit more individual.
@Mayma: Eh I guess so but... Anger runs out. And if all you have is anger, you have nothing left.
@Spidergoth: Hahaha yeah those are just ponies, LOL.
@Ged: Yeah... I need to work on that stuff.
Here's a steaming pile of dump.
There's a dick in here. So don't look if you don't feel comfortable around dick.
05-10-2012, 07:27 PM
YAY HANDS PRACTICE!!! Pretty good although the D-guys 1 position has thighs that are a little bit too thick. Also the arm
IF you raise your arm the shoulder muscles will also go up. Try it your self and you'll see.
05-10-2012, 08:28 PM
2nd picture. Stubby arms. (My left).4th, you should improve eyes. 5th Hard to tell because of the lack of development.

05-24-2012, 06:53 PM
Man, sorry to pick the other guy, but Jai is looking really badass in that mugshotty image.
The last two things are a bit to blurry to make to much of a comment on, really, but like I was saying over AIM the other day, your art seems to be super improving since I last checked...
If I really had to make a complaint, it would probally be about how the eyes pretty often seem kinda disjointed. Practice on their placement could probally go a long way, even if you keep the same style.
05-24-2012, 07:46 PM
Hey man, you should upload one of the draws you did in the old MT days.
05-24-2012, 08:08 PM
05-25-2012, 11:03 AM
Prince of Persia Warrior within!!! FUDGE YEAH!!!
No time. A proper critique next time i come back.
05-28-2012, 09:03 AM
Dude, Lux, Sy, bro! Everytime I come into your thread I see a huge leap in skill. Keep rockin' it man!
12-25-2012, 08:13 PM
THERE IS SUBSTANCE!
12-25-2012, 08:19 PM
Man, you need to occupy more of that empty space. Other than that it's lookin' pretty rad.
You also need to skype with me.

I dig this new stuff, son. Especially that one at the top- real atmospheric and eerie, I almost prefer the empty space, but Jai is right to tell you to fill it up a bit more.

Wow, I love all the tons of detail! Her calves are a bit thin, but other than that, great job! :)

Yeah, your mugshots are seeming entirely too rad now... The junky style is always pretty cool too.
Only things; The boobehz are a bit weird and flat. To make them look three dimensional they should be jutting out way further to the left. Maybe the entire upper chest? It's kinda hard to tell what is armour and what is posture.

"The game?"... Are these actual concepts for a project thingy you are working on?... Or just concept art practice?... The level of detail in them is certainly pretty rad. As are the proportions, if you don't count the xtreme ninties spartian guy at the top left... My favourate is probally the very last dude. Very ninja-homely. Probally could have done with a scabard, but that's just me overthinking things, probally... Hum, maybe that guy's goggles seem a bit too flat on his nose, too...

and since I can't comment on your drawings because they are far superior to mine and I don't see anything wrong with them, i'm going to comment on that hiragana/katakana on the previous drawings.

Honestly, with some facial alignment, it'd look really good! :) You probably already know most of what's off about it. Straighten up the lips, maybe lower the nose and show less nostrils since the view doesn't seem to be from below. The eyebrows shouldn't go so far down. The eye on the left is smaller than the other and there's an awkward bulge of hair on the outside left towards the top of the head.
03-18-2013, 01:07 AM
Thanks! I've taken your advice into serious consideration and have made according adjustments:
03-18-2013, 01:17 AM
Hullo :) Looking nice looking nice. I think the main issue that I'm noticing, at least with the face, is a lack of volume. JJ already mentioned straightening the lips, but with this look (or at least the look I think you're going for) I think you could push it more with the shading on the face. I'm not really the best person to be giving advice about this, since this is something I'm just trying to figure out, but I think you really need to think about the different shapes that make up the planes on the face and how they would affect the shading.
The places to really focus in on here are the nose, the cheeks, and the chin. In real life they're all rather bulbous shapes, like the nose sticks out from the face and therefore has more shading underneath it. Its really hard to put into words =-= so I'm going to put some examples from deviantart in spoilers. Hopefully this helps... :/
Take this one for example. I like this one a lot for multiple reasons: the shadows at the top of the eyes and where the bridge of the nose is indicated are darker - which makes sense since the eyes are generally set further into the face (also the highlights are generally broader strokes. On the face there aren't as many small circular highlights, unless that's a stylistic choice, because the face is a softer surface, it doesn't reflect light the same way plastic does. You know?) Also I really like the shading on the nose in this one and under the bottom lip. The shading makes sense with the direction of the light... It's darkest under things that protrude from the face. I'm sorry about the rambling =-= i know this is not the most helpful thing ever...
This one also has really awesome shading, and it's a little more rough - not quite as smoothed out as the previous one. Notice how the cheek actually looks like it's rounded and there's a crease between it and the nose... And how the shading around the lips makes them look like they're actually coming out from the face, they aren't just flat. Lips have awesome volume. :3
More awesome shading that really takes the volume of the face into account - notice above the eyes o-o just awesome.
Anyway... This isn't as coherent as I'd like, it's late and i'm tired, but the main thing to really focus on is volume. I've said this lots of times I think, but it bears repeating because the face really isn't flat. :) Also the hair is looking a bit spiky and stiff... Consider using looser, more flowy strokes for the hair. Even pin-straight hair has a tiny bit of wave to it. :D I hope this was somewhat helpful? I know it wasn't overly specific... I really like the overall design of the girl, and the armor looks awesome! The shading on the armor is pretty damn fantastic and I can't wait to see how it looks when/if you modify stuff. ;)

Wowee! Thanks so much for the crits, Cora! That was super awesome. :3
Anyways, coloring without lines is turning out to be a big headache for me. @_@
So I decided to just draw cartoony stuff and practice coloring those before I try more realism. I took your advice into consideration, Cora, and I looked up planes of the face as well as using the images you provided for me as a references. Wowzers! It really helped me out a lot! Thank you so much again. :3
03-18-2013, 05:37 PM
I think you should be cell-shading/coloring if you're going to be using lines as dark as that. Right now it looks oddly 2-dimensional.
Bitchin' style though
03-18-2013, 05:57 PM
uwu you are super right my brother those lines are pretty thick huh
03-18-2013, 06:59 PM
You could try making the lines closer to skin color, or like a slightly darker skin color/lip color instead of black? Might make them less harsh :)
03-18-2013, 07:12 PM
I'm not sure if this is something of that much concern to you, but I would say that the eyes aren't symmetrical. If you look, the left eye's edge close to the ear is much further up than the eye on the right. Since the face is almost straight on, I would imagine from observation of my own face, that the edge of the eye would probably be seen as if it were on a line. Please let me know if i'm not making sense.
03-18-2013, 07:29 PM
You're making perfect sense! Yes, I have an awful terrible issue with symmetry, but I was unaware it was so prevalent. Thank you so much for pointing it out! I'm trying out different power vfx for the game here, though honestly I think the Ki Barrier looks pretty unconvincing and the Cybershield looks pretty weak and unprotective @_@ Hopefully I'll have some better stuff up soonish
03-18-2013, 07:43 PM
Very welcome :)
I think when it's coming down to the designs of these barriers you don't think are convincing, you need to go back to your core principles of design. If you are really serious, before starting out on more designs; set up a mind map of the ideas and practicalities of the shields. I assume that you want one to be heavy and provide a lot of protection, yet you also want to look futuristic since it seems to be made of energy. If you follow through that procedure the design should be easier to tease out the details you are wanting, since you have to think it over and put it down on paper. Once that is done set up like ten boxes and draw all your ideas into them focusing only on the design of interest (not forgetting to keep the mind map from earlier as reference), from those ten 'poor' designs you should be able to select things you like in the design whilst also retaining plausibility and a grounding of 'reality' as far as a energy shield is concerned.
If you are already using/aware of this stuff, please ignore this :3 but if you aren't I hope this is helpful for your game designs. There are some good FZDschool videos on this kinda stuff, I think it would be worth your while checking them out if you are considering designing for your game.

Oh man, thanks so much! I've been on a real creative kick here. I've just been sketching out stuff and redesigning old creations, and I think I'm really coming along. I've tried to apply cool to warm lighting with my concepts, like Orokan and the helmet. I think that my designs convey the message okay, but I feel like there are some elements I'm really missing but I'm not sure if I have to skill to do them yet.
03-18-2013, 10:00 PM
I'm really not too great with furturistic armor, sorry. But, I did notice that on your second picture, my eyes bounce back and forth between the figure and the oval-ish form. There's not a true focal point, so it's not as pleasing to the eye. I know it's just a sketch and all, but if you continue working on it, maybe consider making either one of the forms the main focal point, either by color or light/darkness.
I like the design of the helmet, but I find the first two images quite hard to read. Maybe it's just my monitor setting, but I find it difficult to pick out the shapes against the dark background.
03-19-2013, 03:13 PM
have you ever tried doing these in full opacity? dark gray background + half opacity black makes it really unreadable.
03-19-2013, 03:17 PM
ohhh those helmet concepts look pretty sweet!! you might want to add some strokes with a harder brush/opacity though since it is a tad blurry. adding a bit more contrast might also be something nice to do :3 i really like the design, it's very well detailed and really nice ^^
i don't have that much to say on the other drawings, for they are still quite rough and i guess they are more sketches than drawings which you are going to finish? (tell me if i'm wrong :3 ) as already has been said by gaff, the second two drawings are hard to read. some more foreground/background contrast might make it a bit easier to recognise the shapes :3 and yaaay sparkles!! :D
03-19-2013, 09:40 PM
Oh wowee! I'm getting so much feedback! This is a dream come true guys, really. I recognize that the contrast on the images isn't stark enough. Perhaps I should take Cype's and Cllesthe's advice and work in higher opacities with hard brushes? It seems I really did go low-opacity crazy. Maybe I should try a simple texture brush? I've never used one of those and I wonder how it could work for my drawings. I'm probably not going to finish any of them, but I will take what I have learned from your critiques and apply them to similar pieces in the future. Anyway, I digress.

that's a nice zoidberg. I don't think the issue here is sculpting skill so much that you're not using a process to create the monster in your mind. People who do like really amazing sculpts in 30 mins do so because they've already used their general knowledge to compile a concept of the monster in their mind. They know what the skeleton looks like, how its muscles work, how it walks, how it eats, etc. If you're getting into concept art, get into the habit of creating a creature from scratch, and get out of the mentality of just designing its appearance, otherwise you get stuck.
Just some mental pointers.

Thank you! I know what you mean, and you were right, I went in blind @_@ Thank you again!
Working on a new piece, both the male and female Mercers.
03-25-2013, 11:40 PM
Admittedly, I'm not very good at critiquing armored peoples :X I think they both are looking good so far. Something is bothering me about the guy's neck. I don't know what exactly, but it seems like it might be uncomfortable with the neck armor twist his face/head that much away from the way his torso is facing? But I could be completely wrong, cause like I said, I'm not very good with armor!
I really like it so far, though. Hope to see an update soon! :D
03-26-2013, 12:34 AM
I think the neck piece is just too tall; it looks like it'd be choking him. His head shape indicates a 3/4 view, while his actual face is full front view. Also, his right (our left) eye looks slightly bigger than the other. His far arm looks unnaturally thin at the elbow.
On the girl: Her face isn't in line with the chin (the chin's too far to the right) and her mouth is a little too low (no room for the jaw)
03-28-2013, 01:20 AM
wow cool lineart!
Tho I'd wish to see the whole draw before commenting...
Details are awesome! May need to give them more depth (try variation of thin and thick lineart to indicate contour of armory)
All is awesome tho! :) nice arts sylux
04-07-2013, 04:38 PM
thx guys :3 chances are im not gonna finish that lineart tho
im not sure what im doing
04-07-2013, 07:55 PM
Cool design so far! I think his ear could stand to be a bit larger and maybe a tiny bit lower, but that's your call
06-09-2013, 06:18 PM
bash the frick outta dis pls
The rock formations look good, but I'd crank the contrast up a bit - I feel like I can hardly see it at the moment.
The little white bit in the left lower corner also looks like a cat to me. I need to get out more.
06-10-2013, 10:13 AM
This is more of a suggestion, but you could use the rock formations to draw attention to the focal point before you move on. If I am right, the two characters are looking at the top right hand corner where I assume you are going to put something of importance. You could use the shadow contrast of the cave to also help lead the eye.
The composition seems sound to me, I like it a lot actually. Maybe developing the foreground a bit as well? The mid and back ground are looking cool, but I don't see much in the foreground.
06-11-2013, 03:03 AM
Oh, I should have explained that. I'm trying to bring attention to the characters and give a sense of a vast and dangerous area for exploration. But, I dunno how to do that.
06-11-2013, 03:51 AM
This is actually a great start but liked Gaff said you need to bump up the contrast a bit.
I did a quick paint over, I'm not really good with environment so Ill share what i know xD
If you want to focus on the characters then doing what Demon said would be best. Try to use the environment to lead the viewers eyes to the 2 character. I kinda repainted a few rocks so its pointed at them.
Another thing you can do is to put the highest contrasting point near the characters. This will make them pop out more. The way you have the landscape is a bit hard for the guy on the right side. So just bump the contrast anyways.
Another thing I did was I kinda split the painting into foreground mid-ground and back ground by painting the edges of those cliff with some soft dusk? This help creates atmospheric perspective.
What you can do to bring this to a more finish painting is to try to use hard brush to clean and refine the edges. After that maybe you can try using some texture brushes or photo texture to give the rocks more detail.
Keep going man! Its a great start!
