If you have anything to say about the new forum - say it here! Give me the good, the bad, and the extremely ugly. ;P

Woah, nvm. I didn't realise it was still changing. I shall hold my judgement yet.

Rio
12-30-2010, 04:52 PM
Yup, I'm still changing some things around here.

Btw, for everyone in general, the settings here in the new forum are separate from the rest of the site. This means that you will have to reset your avatar (they're huge this time), siggies, and so on. For now, there is also no word censor so enjoy you cussin' lovin' people out there. :p

Um, I don't know if I'm missing something really obvious, but I can't find the log-out button. o - o

Rio
12-30-2010, 05:04 PM
I took it out, for the time being. I also took out the More button. I'll put back the Logout in a second...

Hayashida

There doesn't appear to be any way to change your avatar on here. I went to the edit avatar section of the edit profile section and there's no buttons or anything.

edit: Also, I noticed you can't put an image as a sig. Dunno if that's the way it's supposed to be. And if you click the forum button at the top while in the forum, it brings you to the account upgrade page.

may i give suggestion too?
umm... i really want if this forum use spoiler (BB Code)...
(ex : )
yeah, like that, so i could hide my ugly and over-sized pictures... :o

Rio
12-31-2010, 10:58 AM
Ok, thanks for the input your guys! I'll take a look at it asap.

[EDIT]
Ok, I've enabled avatar uploads and siggies. I'll look into spoilers next.

Btw, how are you liking the forum so far?

Also, if you are already a member here at the site, you do NOT have to register again here at the forum. Your account for the site (i.e. with the Dashboard, Gallery, etc) is already tied in with this forum. You can start posting and so on.

Hayashida
12-31-2010, 03:53 PM
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to log in at first here, but I just went to reply to a thread and it asked me for my login info, so that's how I got in.

pajamajam
12-31-2010, 07:19 PM
^This. I hit the login button on the nav bar, but it just showed I was logged in to the site itself. It's a bit of a pain in the butt to have to go try to reply to a thread just to log in to the board.

Bacon_Barbarian

I love the new site, but the account I upgraded which has around 30 posts now has 0, and... I don't know... I logged in and I was given this. ... I'm confused, because it says I still have my Membership and the pictures I uploaded are still around. But I'm seriously confused.

EDIT: And now they're merged?

Hayashida
01-01-2011, 01:59 PM
Rio are you going to change the way this forum looks to make it more like MT before?

Bacon_Barbarian
01-01-2011, 05:10 PM
... Is their no way to change the title of a thread that you've made

Superdooperphailmachine

It is horrid and thin. I preferred it when it was wider.

Kodos
01-03-2011, 01:38 PM
What he said. Also the post size limit is smaller. The DnD OP from the old thread did not fit here.
Also: How do I make text sizes which are not "normal" or "huge" when I tried with the formatting int he DnD OOC OP it just oscilatted between huge and normal. I can't get varying degrees of bigness.
EDIT: I also enjoy how neither my signature nor my avatar bother to show up :(
EDIT THE THIRD: Also no matter what time zone I choose it seems to display GMT and refuses to display GMT -5:00, my actual time zone.

Hayashida
01-03-2011, 03:50 PM
Are you clicking "save changes" before you go back to the forum

Kodos
01-03-2011, 04:57 PM
Yes. And it does have my time set as GMT-5:00. It's just not having any effect.

Hayashida
01-03-2011, 07:11 PM
thats odd. I changed my time zone and it worked...

Kodos
01-03-2011, 08:33 PM
This forum sucks so hard. The old one was so much better. Good god. I hate to be negative, and I think most people here know me well enough to know I don't just hate new things because they are new, but really? The post length limit is shorter, the avatars are smaller, we can only have four images in a single post regardless of size, the viewing area for actual threads - that is to say actual content - is smaller and more unpleasant than the old one. :/
Any chance of keeping the old forum open?

EDIT: And it seems our signatures image sizes are also smaller since it won't let me use that tiny boob pic I used in the last forum because it is saying it's too large. Lovely.

Hayashida
01-03-2011, 10:01 PM
I think Rio still as a lot to do in terms of customization of the new forum.

Kodos
01-03-2011, 10:06 PM
I really hope so, because as it is now I really don't see how it's any better than the last abortive attempt. If anything it may, in fact, be worse.

Fenn
01-03-2011, 10:22 PM
This is probably insignificant, but any chance we'll get the censor back? I laughed at every silly goose I read, and it was polite for when I had others watching me over my shoulder.

Yeah there is a lot of work to be done.

Also I dont know how I feel about the reputation feature. They used to have that at shoryuken.com and it was horrible. You couldn't post differing opinions or you would get rep bombed.

Kodos
01-04-2011, 12:55 AM
Does the reputation feature have any tangible effects beyond e-peen size?

Electric_Nomad
01-04-2011, 03:13 AM
In older VBulletin, there is the function of lowering down the size of a bulky images, when you post it. You can also control what size of images get cuts down(for e.g 100 w and 200 h - anything that goes beyond this number will get cut down).

You can also resize the image to its original size if you click on it(in the post). I don't know if that function is here, because I can't see it in my settings.

Rio
01-04-2011, 12:31 PM
This is my first time using Vbulletin administratively so I've still got a lot of things to figure out (new settings, locations and all that). You'll just have to bear with it until things get back to as normal as possible. Anyways, I'll look into all the complaints...

[UPDATE]
Ok, I've been fiddling with stuff in the settings. I've got:

1. Reputation is now OFF.
2. You can now post however long a post you want to. No character limit.
3. You can post however many images, videos, etc in your posts. No image/video limit.
4. The thread starter should now be able to change the title of the thread at any time.
5. There will be no word censors here at this forum (at least for now) due to the inability of each member to choose whether to use the word censor or not.

I'll post more as I get it done.

Hayashida
01-04-2011, 02:06 PM
Is it possible to change the post indicator thingies? Like the bits where it says if there's a new post, etc? Cuz right now it's sort of weird and foreign to me.

Rio
01-04-2011, 02:15 PM
You mean the icons? The one's that turn gray, purple and so on depending on if there's something new or not? It can be done but there'll be some editing involved.

Anyways, more updates:
6. Avatars can now be up to 150x150 pixels.
7. Siggy limits will remain as is. I will not be changing them though in future, I'll be making it an option to "size up" in future using your Activity Points.

Hayashida
01-04-2011, 02:26 PM

Also yeah those icons are the things I was referring to.

Cool, thanks. If you could do something about the post length limits though, that's really the killer. Also to a lesser extent the limit of four images per post and worse, if such a thing exists and I've yet to encounter it, any sort of link limit. The DnD threads obviously have lots of links in every post, due to rolls, and also sometimes can have many images due to maps and stuff.

Glad to hear though. :D

I already took care of those. Here's a recap (it's several posts above this one if you want to see the original):

I missed those boobies.

Are you gonna reinstate oekaki mods and/or the oekaki area? I ask because it's gonna suck if we have to put the oekaki ban/warning list up for all to see.

Rio
01-04-2011, 03:17 PM
Yeah, I've already made you guys mods and stuff. I'll see about you guys accessing the Mods Area... Totally forgot about it. <_<;

Regarding Oekaki Contest and questions, members will just have to post in the General Discussion area. There's really not much going on in the old Oekaki section so I did away with it here. Btw, the Oekaki Contest thread is here (http://www.mangatutorials.com/forum/showthread.php?23-Oekaki-Contest-Anyone).

NP. You never know though. I'll probably reinstate it if the feature becomes available.

01-05-2011, 11:08 AM
I would really appreciate it if you reinstated the previous signature image size limitations. The 500px x 100px limit is very sad; I can't use the signature image that I was using before with those limits in place and resizing to fit within the limitations didn't work out too well. (In case you're wondering, the size of the image I was using was 450px x 256px.)

Rio

Rio are you going to change the way this forum looks to make it more like MT before?

I'll be keeping it as is. If I change the forum design to the old one, it's going to mess up with the rest of the site which has this blue background and overall look.

Regarding the width of the forum, for everyone else who asked, I'm not changing it for the same reason as above. I know there are quite a number of you who use large screens but it's just something you have to get used to for now. We'll see. I may make the choice available by using your Activity Points in the future.

Kodos
01-05-2011, 03:43 PM
When I try changing font sizes I only seem to have two options; normal and huge.

Hmmm.... I'll take a look into that. As far as I know, that's pretty much default.

Just wanted to make an update:

8. You can now add SPOILER tags! To use the Spoiler tag, you will have to manually type it into your post like so (sorry, there is no buttons available atm):

Your text or image or whatever goes in here. It will look like this:
Your text or image or whatever goes in here.

9. The minimum character post has been reduced to 2 letters.

OK, gender will now show. You first have to set it in your Profile though before it will show up. To get to Profile, just go to Forum Actions > Edit Profile > Scroll to bottom and choose one of the two options > Hit Save.

Someone previously asked me about how to get back out of a thread and going back to the main section. For example, right now I am in Ask a Mod > New Forum Questions, Suggestions, and All That. How do you get back to Ask a Mod without having to scroll back up?

There are two ways. The first way is to hit Top which is located right underneath the page numbers and right above the Quick Reply box. This will bring you back up to the top of the page where you can then hit Ask a Mod in the navigation bar. The second way is to his the Ask a Mod button which will list all the sections in the forum as well as some other links.

I will try looking for another alternative but for now, this is what's available.

tbh I dunno even what the thing I am looking for is called.

On our main profile, under our names, some people have a status written in grey. How do you get/edit that?

Also, I am not getting any e-mails for any of the threads I subscibed to....

The title under your name changes as your posts increase. idk about the thread subscription issue tho

Also, I am not getting any e-mails for any of the threads I subscibed to....1. Have you checked your spam folder? and 2. Go to Forum Actions > General Settings > go to Default Thread Subscription Mode > select "Instantly, using email" or whichever choice you selected > Hit Save Changes. Done!

I did check my spam folder, with no success. However, I will try that other suggestion, Rio...

however, for the title under my name, I didn't mean the 101 Dalmations title under my name in the threads. but the one on our main profile... I don't want to use people as examples here, but I will post a screen shot with a red arrow pointing to what I mean in a spoiler.... I also removed their image for better consealing of their identity

Oh that! If you hit Dashboard in the menu bar, there should be a box underneath called Dashboard (unless you hid it or moved it to the bottom). Underneath the links (Quick Links, Points History, etc), there should be a field. If you type what you want there, it will go under your name in your profile. C:

Your forum account is subordinate to your MT account - but not the other way around. The best way to log in, generally, is the giant Log In button up at the top.

ok, unsure if this is asked before or not, but I give it a shot.

I see there's a lot of members here that got a different name on their forum as on their username for the site (I'm checking the url to find their username instead of their "real name" to see the difference).

Is this cause they are members from the old forum so they had different names there? Or is there a way I can get a different display name on the forum as on the main site? Like... using a nickname as the display name instead of the username I log in with.

Rubisko
06-10-2012, 11:44 AM
Go to dashboard>Settings and there are two different fields for names, one "full name" (I think), and one "forum username". The full name one is for the site

eltoroguaco
06-10-2012, 02:12 PM
well that's the thing really. it says full name and username. If I change the username (which I can only do once) it will change at both forum and main site and I will have to use that name to login XP My question was if there's a way to only change it on the forum but still log in with the old one. So take this as a no then :P

Hayashida
06-10-2012, 02:16 PM
you have to ask Rio to change your forum username

eltoroguaco
06-10-2012, 02:41 PM
ah... Well, Eltoroguaco is my artist name so only thing I'd use beside that is just "Guaco" since that's my nickname :P So doesn't really matter to me. Was just curious on how others had different names XP

Rio
06-13-2012, 02:08 PM
If I'm getting what you're saying correctly, you just want your name in the forum to change correct? If that is what you want, then there's no way to do it unless we change your username. The main site is different in that it allows you to change your display name at any time, indefinitely. The forum only uses your username. Your username is the one that is also displayed in the forum.
