View Full Version : Obscure games you don't think anyone else has played

Stole this idea from another forum.

"The thread in which we post obscure games in the futile hope that we have somehow played some beautiful and unique snowflake no one else has, and try to outdo one other in our knowledge of the arcane."

I'll start.

Baroque (Saturn)

First person roguelike RPG that plays a bit like Doom, but with Silent Hill asthetics. Clunky but awesomely disturbing. The old graphics actually make it more unsettling. :3

Darn this will be tough I rarely play unknown games. I'm a mainstream guy...

It was actually really fun, even though it had a broken "teleport" item...

Which ones?

Also, no, it means I gotta up the ante;

Lastly, not super-super rare, but a smegging incredible party game;

It's like Gladiators, but if the producers had been playing crack, watching metal slug and snorting the running man whilst creating it. *_*

Smash TV is the best shit and if that game is considered obscure than I am sick of this world.

If you didn't grow up with an SNES you would only have heard of it through media references...weird I was literally just reading about this in the new issue of NP

I've never heard of it in any passing referances at all... Perhaps it's just rare here in England?... Only way Reg even knows about it is because it's on the Xbox midway compilation disk he has. >_>

I remember playing a game called Radix: Beyond the Void.
last time i played it i was like 10 years old, but i loved the shit out of it.
It kinda looks like Descent, apart from the fact that you won't get disoriented from flying upsidedown seen as Radix is built on the Doom engine (to my knowledge)

anywho, here's some gameplay.

Descent is p. popular. I have Descent 3 original CD.

07-31-2011, 06:19 AM
i recently downloaded Descent 1,2 and 3 from GOG

07-31-2011, 07:52 AM
^ Pfft I've played Descent 1 and 3.

Gal Pani X. It's a Qix clone with ecchi (though non-pornographic) backgrounds and a SHMUP twist. Extremely addicting but ruthlessly difficult, which is fine cuz you get rewarded in ass and titties.

Numerous h games in my adventurous days.

08-06-2011, 03:33 PM
Uprising: Join or Die
Battlezone 1998
Hostile Waters: Antares Rising

All great RTS/Action Hybrids. I'm a sucker for this genre because, though the games are few, they are consistently amazing. Sadly not many people are even aware that this genre exists.

Same. I've laid off on them recently, but they're all pretty well-known. Especially on Hongfire.

I'll recommend a non-H game. Patchcon: Defend The Library is an RTS using Touhou characters. You pick a group of Touhou characters to defend Patchouli's library from all the other Touhou characters. Needless to say, you'll probably want to pass this one over if you're not already into Touhou.

Also, I'd like to promote my favorite strategy series of all time: Fire Emblem. While it's not obscure, no one ever plays it because new FE titles always come out along side really highly-anticipated games. It's got anime graphics, usually focuses on story and characters, and has one of my favorite risk/reward systems ever. You win a fight, your character gets experience and becomes more effective in battle. If your character looses, s/he is dead. For good. No ifs, ands, or buts, though the power button on the Wii can certainly butt in whenever it wants. As it frequently does with me because I handle my troops with the skill of an autistic sloth.

You can pretty much say that about any Tohou game except IaMP, which is a pretty good game all around.
