looks like a goth style of clothing. for most asian clothing stuff yesstyle.com is pretty good, otherwise any main brand stuff is pretty good. normally it is some kind a variation of what the artist likes. if you think belts are cool use more of them consider what makes the clothes attractive. does it balance well. does it fit? stuff like that.

yeah gothic or gothic lolita is the genre of clothes( is that right? using the word genre?) w/e thats what those types of clothes are. really kinda dark. main stream stuff with a little pizazz is more interesting in my opinion, but if you like dark stuff, crosses, and things like that it is gothic and gothic lolita

apples13

thats just a short sleeved hoody.
there is no specific name for these things most of the time it is some kind of variation of something you already know.
http://www.yesstyle.com/en/home.html just check out the styles here.

The last image is just a turtle neck with a sleeveless (or strapless) dress. Regarding belts, Final Fantasy characters are notorious for having belts and buckles on their clothes particularly the more recent ones. Check those characters out if you get the chance.

The best way to find different fashions is to look at different designers and their collections during the year. It will show you a variety of styles of clothing.

http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2011/03/versace-fall-2011-collection-2.html

http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2011/02/gucci-fall-2011-collection-2.html

I suggest looking at China's Fashion Week because the designs are simply phenomenal.

Polyvore is a great site to see what is currently trending as of now or looking at a lot of different styles. Just go under the shop section.

i'll check that out more often... does it say in every dress it's wearing? i mean what's it's called?

time to revive this thread.

I don't still have a fashion style mind at all, well maybe I do and i can probably design my own clothes by now, but when I looked at this pictures,
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee388/skyramiel/15.jpg
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee388/skyramiel/pirezeH2SO4_World_of_The_M_10.jpg
well mostly all of H2SO4 artworks has awesome fashion designing. and I don't even know where this guy gets his ideas at all.
anyway I need more vocabulary or keywords to type on google for more reference for these types of clothes.

all I know is:
dress, dress and dress.
fashion country= don't know, don't know, don't know
season=summer, summer, and summer.
don't really know anything about these things, what does autumn and spring clothes look like anyway? >_>
and what does these dresses called?

yeah, H2SO4 is good at male fashion styles as well, so i guess I would ask what these are called as well

the idea is kinda good, although I'd rather make an art that people would say. "oh this is so cool"
rather than "oh this is so awesome just look at the details, wonder how long this guy draw this"

That's why I just want important details in a costume for the character.

I'm quite amazed at the places you go in the web hamachi.
I'll check it out, little by little since I know I can't read it in a whole day cause there's far too many words >_>
do you know where exactly can I find more vocabulary for fashion designing,
like fashion designer's dictionary or something?

I only half agree with the simplicity part, as I'm a man of very...very many details lol. But this is a really good find. Hell even I took in some new info.

It focused for comic characters, which mean less details = fast draw. In illustration it doesn't matter and you can be very detailed.
Still, now days in comic's there are few tricks to draw faster and still giving details to your work.

I think that there are some people that do quite a lot of comics and pages in one comic and yet they put and unbeliveble amount of details. Romanticly apocalyptic is .......well...........i don't have a word for it. Its realistic as hell, always with an unimaginble level of detail in the bgs and yet it is a webcomic.

They use a pretty common trick on comics (and in life) named "Copy & Paste". Look the window of the buildings and the clashes of light (also probably the cloth is done by photography, a great trick, but I prefer it as how Tony Harris use it).

Those are photo textures. They take a photo and lay it over a drawing to create easy details.

Nice tutorial! As for your question Ramiel - they're summer dresses. Those clothing are basically simple summer dresses which are then modified with embellishments such as ribbons, patterns, belts, etc that in the end emulate a certain style (i.e. Chinese, business, sailor outfit, etc). So when you create something, start with a simple clothing (i.e. dress, shirt, etc) and then add things to it. That's basically it.

ram
10-03-2011, 10:37 PM
well you can find them in google. but that's not where I got them though, why do you ask?

try typing in google images "H2SO4 artworks" and you'll probably see tons of those pictures.

Mostly for inspiration, because I too lack in the creativity of designing my own outfits and such. Not only that but I adore the coloring method that that person used, and I'd like to see more of their work and get an idea of WHY I like it so much. :3

ram
10-04-2011, 12:17 AM
well if you say so, but H2SO4 isn't the only one who's the best in clothes and coloring.
I made a thread about greatest artist but it doesn't seem that people do go there and add their favorites.

it's better to go to some otaku site where you can know more names of artists.
H2SO4 is just one of my favorites but I have tons of artist I adore when it comes to art.

I am enlightened! But the characters arn't copy/pasted right?

ClockHand
10-04-2011, 06:52 PM
Trick in comic: draw the character in many poses so you can copy paste it. The textures and characters can be copy pasted and photography can help a lot more.

But I prefer how Tony Harris use it, because he doesn't take a picture and paint over the layers, he take the picture and use it as a reference to work.

I'm pretty much thinking about this, If I create a fashion where the clothes will likely pretty much stand out that everyone will remember the character when they see the clothes will make a pretty big plus in manga.

But the problem is it might stand out too much that people will think it's weird to be in the same civilization as ours.

here's some examples,

It's all fantasy characters created by Hirano Katsuyuki

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee388/skyramiel/41.jpg

I'm just asking your opinions, Do you think it will look weird if you see people wearing these clothes in your country?
Will you think "oh he/she is doing a cosplay" or something similar?

But if I make it too ordinary, Let's say like this one

http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee388/skyramiel/1-2.jpg

It won't stand out that much and my character will probably be too plain right? Or will it? Not really sure so please state your opinions.

Edit: I'm planning to reference Square Enix stuffs as well, Those might stand out too, or not? I don't really know.

I guess I'm having a hard time seeing what you're actually trying to ask. The top spoiler is avant-garde styled, so yes, it would look weird if someone in real life would wear it. But they are perfect for comic characters. The bottom spoiler is very, very cool for real life, but would be slightly unoriginal and boring for a comic character.

ram
12-01-2011, 07:21 AM
Actually I'm trying to design a comic character that would actually fit in a civilization that we have,

Like if he/she walks around town looking for his enemies or something, no one would see him/her any weird from the clothes that he/she is wearing.

But If I make the character too non flashy then my character would lose his/her cool aura.

Why don't you try normal cloth but making the character to stand out by his personality, hairstyle and some physical features?

^ This is what I was thinking. If your character's appeal is dependent on their clothing, then you are doing something terribly wrong and need to rethink the character.

ram

I've already decided for a long time now That my character would be black hair and black eyes just like me, (which is usually the most common type of character lol) Well we usually do something that makes our character look a little bit like us somehow.

personality would stand out, but I guess not the hairstyle.

Anyway I just decided for him to wear a normal clothing most of the time(depends on the situations of the scene)Thanks for the suggestions.

If you want you character to wear casual clothing and still stand out why not try an accessory of some sort. What about a facial piercing it can make someone stand out. The person can have some sort of clothing fetish, maybe they like boots more than the average person or criter hats. Maybe a medallion with significant meaning or even give them an interesting tattoo or scar.
Give your character a particular style. If he's a rebel dress him/her in an edgy street style- something punk, scene, gothic. If you want to emphasis intelligence try sweater vests, ties, collared shirts, glasses? Innocent girls are usually dressed in skirts and dresses, adorned with cute accessories like bows and hair clips.
even the type of jacket can say something about a character- like a hoodie can indicate a person is more laid back verses a person in a peticoat or a trenchcoat.
