Okay then. I have been drawing manga super-casually for about five years. I've improved greatly compared to my first works but I'm not the level I want to be yet, where what's in my head is really recognizable on the page. Manga is just a diversion and hobby for me. Here's all anyone needs to know (but probably doesn't care ):
- I do strictly lineart. A .5 mechanical pencil, printer paper, and a kneaded eraser is all I use.
- I have no way to upload my drawings yet, so for now I'll just be admiring everyone else's.
- I hate resources, which is probably why I improve so slowly. I just don't have fun unless I'm working on something original.
- Strangely enough, I don't read manga and haven't watched anime for years. Most of my inspiration comes from video games like Fire Emblem. Any suggestions for mangas with an art style similar to that?
- I have a giant word document with an ongoing ideas for an epic manga. I also have tons of fleshed-out characters.



tl;dr: I'm busy, don't draw as often as I'd like, and came here to stare in awe of your art while trying to get better!

Using resources doesn't have to make your art unoriginal. You can also create your own resources if you can't find a suitable resource for what you want to draw.

I'm not exactly sure what the game looks like, aside from the cover, but I would most likely suggest studying shounen/semi-realism artists. If you want some more specific suggestions I suppose I could try to find some names.

Why don't you share some of your ideas in the Manga Works until you find a way of showing your art?

idk if this is really similar, but maybe Fullmetal Alchemist? My friend and I kind of started out by drawing from screenshots of the fma anime ^_^

Hello there Fenn. I'm also new here(and had activation problems). And this is the first time I'm recognized in a website. And I have no way to upload traditional art. And I don't read manga or watch much anime(till two months ago). And I draw well only when I'm doing something original. I was not made for copying. And I like final fantasy(hopefully it has something in common with fire emblem). I also have an idea for an epic manga with fleshed out characters(but no word document).

Woah...that's freaky. I like Final Fantasy's style too, although it dips a bit more into realistic forms than I prefer.

Yeah, final fantasy is a bit more on the realistic side. Although my definition of epic may not match yours, considering what I read in your thread.

EDIT: Upon reading the later posts of your thread, It seems that you are not exactly doing a matrix like manga, but rather trying to make a manga that asks fundamental questions of humanity, or should I rather say, what most consider ordinary life.

So I am at a fix here-are you trying to make a fantasy manga which asks such questions or a manga in some other genre which fulfils the latter?

A fantasy manga. It has similarities to Earth, but takes place on an alternate reality/world/dimension.

One of my goals is to have an entire mythos that really immerses the reader, like Lord of the Rings. Tolkein had entire books filled with history and facts about the world that were only indirecty connected to the main plot, but served to create a believable world.

Then that means we have more in common than what I previously mentioned. Creating an entire world out of imagination isn't really as hard as one would think(at least for me it isn't). Having its own history, believable topography, a well planned out geography, it seems as though both of us are striving to achieve the same thing. Great to meet you, Fenn.

EDIT: By the way, did you check my thread in the manga works section where I have explained everything so badly as one would do to something they hate? Except that this is one of the reasons I live. Either, whenever I type in a huge chunk of text, I ALWAYS forget to add something or I add something I never intended to. So ask to the point questions to find out what I really intended.

Not yet. I'm gonna find it now. Hopefully I can figure out the search.
