Hey guys ! (and girls ) , I saw this very interesting post on Concept Art on how to draw (realism).

I thought I post this awesome Concept Art tutorial here, since you at least have to master the ""realism basics"" to be good at manga (yes it's true ). To be short ! ; the OP points out that most artists "fool" themselfs thinking they are good, but in fact they are not good at drawing from the head but are good at "copying" other peoples style/images/references.

HM...I think I might try this Bargue Plates thing, but I'm kind of worried if I start to practice it that it'll mess up my current style...again.

@ Gunzet, don't worry .. it will only improve your overall skills.. so in the end you will only get better... unless your satisfied with your skills right now and don't want to grow ? ; )

@ jaqueline, you did take anatomy class ? how much did you learn from it ?

btw, the main tut is really helpfull and easy to understand.. I started today and Im halfway trough... and I didn't expect this... but.. anatomy is fun ! drawing muscles is easier than you think, as is remembering them (just write them down a few times). Anyways, I will post some more usefull tuts tomorrow.. feel sleepy now *GaRppp

OH man finally simplified muscle explanations. I already know quite a bit but can never find good explanation. Saint-D is definitely a Saint lol.

btw im now busy with the hands... pff they are quite tricky to get right, evenly difficult ass faces!
oh and btw, I walked in the city today and I saw a crow staring at me.. reminded me off your avatar ^^
And I nearly bought Leonardo Da Vinci's full collection of sketches... I read them all today and really want a copy of them... he explains it so well (for himself lol!)

I like Da Vinci's sketches (I have a book of his anatomical works) because they aren't realistic and instead exaggerated to you can see the muscles through the skin. BUT AGAIN. Bouguereau still is the best for absolute realism. *complains about how he doesn't get enough credit*

yes Bouguereau IS the best concerning realism afaik, his paintings are near photo realism! but I like Da Vinci's sketches way more amusing, the guy was plainly the biggest genius ever known to mankind. His inventions and exaggerated sketches are amusing yet very well for learning
